⁴ Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal?^(A) What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”^(B)

³ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan^(A) has so filled your heart^(B) that you have lied to the Holy Spirit^(C) and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?^(D)

³ Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided^(A) for this holy temple:

²⁵ When he went in and stood before his master, Elisha asked him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?”

“Your servant didn’t go anywhere,” Gehazi answered.

²⁶ But Elisha said to him, “Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time^(A) to take money or to accept clothes—or olive groves and vineyards, or flocks and herds, or male and female slaves?^{(B) 27} Naaman’s leprosy^(C) will cling to you and to your descendants forever.” Then Gehazi^(D) went from Elisha’s presence and his skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow.^(E)

⁸ Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.^(A)

²⁵ Joshua said, “Why have you brought this trouble^(A) on us? The Lord will bring trouble on you today.”

Then all Israel stoned him,^(B) and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them.^{(C) 26} Over Achan they heaped^(D) up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day.^(E) Then the Lord turned from his fierce anger.^(F) Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor^[a](G) ever since.

⁹ Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord?^(A) Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

¹⁶ “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”^(A)

¹⁰ “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind^(A) and you will devise an evil scheme.^(B)
