Ministry of Apollos

24 (A)Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being (B)fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, (C)though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he desired to cross to Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him; and when he arrived, (D)he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28 for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, (E)showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.

Paul at Ephesus

19 And it happened, while (F)Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through (G)the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

So they said to him, (H)“We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”

So they said, (I)“Into John’s baptism.”

Then Paul said, (J)“John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”

When they heard this, they were baptized (K)in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had (L)laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and (M)they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Now the men were about twelve in all.

24 And a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by birth, a man of eloquence, being mighty in the Writings, came to Ephesus,

25 this one was instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in the Spirit, was speaking and teaching exactly the things about the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John;

26 this one also began to speak boldly in the synagogue, and Aquilas and Priscilla having heard of him, took him to [them], and did more exactly expound to him the way of God,

27 and he being minded to go through into Achaia, the brethren wrote to the disciples, having exhorted them to receive him, who having come, did help them much who have believed through the grace,

28 for powerfully the Jews he was refuting publicly, shewing through the Writings Jesus to be the Christ.

19 And it came to pass, in Apollos' being in Corinth, Paul having gone through the upper parts, came to Ephesus, and having found certain disciples,

he said unto them, `The Holy Spirit did ye receive -- having believed?' and they said unto him, `But we did not even hear whether there is any Holy Spirit;'

and he said unto them, `To what, then, were ye baptized?' and they said, `To John's baptism.'

And Paul said, `John, indeed, did baptize with a baptism of reformation, saying to the people that in him who is coming after him they should believe -- that is, in the Christ -- Jesus;'

and they, having heard, were baptized -- to the name of the Lord Jesus,

and Paul having laid on them [his] hands, the Holy Spirit came upon them, they were speaking also with tongues, and prophesying,

and all the men were, as it were, twelve.

24 Now a Jew named (A)Apollos, an (B)Alexandrian by birth, [a]an eloquent man, came to (C)Ephesus; and he was proficient in the Scriptures. 25 This man had been instructed in (D)the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was accurately speaking and teaching things about Jesus, being acquainted only with (E)the baptism of John; 26 and [b]he began speaking boldly in the synagogue. But when (F)Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained (G)the way of God more accurately to him. 27 And when he wanted to go across to (H)Achaia, (I)the brothers encouraged him and wrote to (J)the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly [c]helped those who had believed through grace, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating (K)by the Scriptures that (L)Jesus was the [d]Christ.

Paul in Ephesus

19 Now it happened that while (M)Apollos was in (N)Corinth, Paul passed through the (O)upper country and came to (P)Ephesus, and found some disciples. He said to them, “(Q)Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “On the contrary, (R)we have not even heard if there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “(S)Into John’s baptism.” Paul said, “(T)John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people (U)to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” When they heard this, they were (V)baptized [e]in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had (W)laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they began (X)speaking with tongues and (Y)prophesying. There were about twelve men in all.
