⁸ And God, ^(A)who knows the heart, ^(B)bore witness to them, ^(C)by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us,

^47 (A)“Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit ^(B)just as we have?”

²⁴ And ^(A)they prayed and said, “You, Lord, ^(B)who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen

³ So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for ^(A)the Lord, who bore witness to ^(B)the word of his grace, ^(C)granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

⁴ And they were all ^(A)filled with the Holy Spirit and began ^(B)to speak in other tongues ^(C)as the Spirit gave them utterance.

²³ and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he ^(A)who searches mind and heart, and ^(B)I will give to each of you according to your works.

¹³ And ^(A)no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are ^(B)naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

^4 (A)while God also bore witness ^(B)by signs and wonders and various miracles and by ^(C)gifts of the Holy Spirit ^(D)distributed according to his will.

¹⁵ As I began to speak, ^(A)the Holy Spirit fell on them ^(B)just as on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ^(C)‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ¹⁷ If then ^(D)God gave ^(E)the same gift to them as he gave to us ^(F)when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, ^(G)who was I ^(H)that I could stand in God's way?”
