Warning Against Idleness

⁶ Now we command you, brothers, ^(A)in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, ^(B)that you keep away from any ^(C)brother ^(D)who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: ^(A)If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. ¹¹ For we hear that some among you ^(B)walk in idleness, not busy at work, but ^(C)busybodies.

⁷ For you yourselves know ^(A)how you ought to imitate us, because ^(B)we were not idle when we were with you,

¹⁵ So then, brothers, ^(A)stand firm and hold to ^(B)the traditions that you were taught by us, either ^(C)by our spoken word or by ^(D)our letter.

¹⁴ And we urge you, brothers, admonish ^(A)the idle,^{[a] (B)}encourage the fainthearted, ^(C)help the weak, ^(D)be patient with them all.

¹⁷ And ^(A)whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, ^(B)giving thanks to God the Father through him.

⁴ When you are assembled ^(A)in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus,

A Life Pleasing to God

4 Finally, then, brothers,^[a] we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you ^(A)received from us ^(B)how you ought to walk and ^(C)to please God, just as you are doing, that you ^(D)do so more and more.

Final Instructions and Greetings

¹⁷ I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles ^(A)contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; ^(B)avoid them.
