¹⁴ Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them,^(A) in order that they may feel ashamed.^(B)

¹⁰ Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them.^(A)

¹¹ But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister^[a](A) but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater^(B) or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.^(C)

Warning Against Idleness

⁶ In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,^(A) we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from^(B) every believer who is idle and disruptive^(C) and does not live according to the teaching^[a] you received from us.^(D)

⁸ Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.^(A)

⁶¹ Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed^(A) when you receive your sisters, both those who are older than you and those who are younger. I will give them to you as daughters,^(B) but not on the basis of my covenant with you. ⁶² So I will establish my covenant^(C) with you, and you will know that I am the Lord.^{(D) 63} Then, when I make atonement^(E) for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed^(F) and never again open your mouth^(G) because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(H)’”

²¹ Confident^(A) of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.

⁶ And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.^(A)
