² Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right^(A) in the eyes of the Lord his God.

² He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David,^(A) not turning aside to the right or to the left.

³ In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God^(B) of his father David. In his twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of high places, Asherah poles and idols.

² He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David^(A) had done.

Ahaz King of Judah^(A)

28 Ahaz^(B) was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. ² He followed the ways of the kings of Israel and also made idols^(C) for worshiping the Baals. ³ He burned sacrifices in the Valley of Ben Hinnom^(D) and sacrificed his children^(E) in the fire, engaging in the detestable^(F) practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. ⁴ He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.

³ The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David^(A) before him. He did not consult the Baals

² He did what was right^(A) in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right^(B) or to the left.

³ He did what was right^(A) in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David^(B) had done.

³⁴ He did what was right^(A) in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Uzziah had done.

³ He did what was right^(A) in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Amaziah had done.

³ He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not as his father David had done. In everything he followed the example of his father Joash.
