Вярата и нейните плодове
1 (A)Симон Петър, слуга и апостол на Исус Христос, на вас, които чрез правдата на нашия Бог и Спасител Исус Христос сте получили еднаква с нас скъпоценна вяра:
2 (B)Благодат и мир да ви се умножи чрез познаването на Бога и на Исус, нашия Господ.
3 (C)Понеже Неговата божествена сила ни е подарила всичко, което е потребно за живота и за благочестието, чрез познаването на Този, Който ни е призовал чрез Своята слава и сила,
4 (D)чрез които се подариха скъпоценните ни и твърде големи обещания, за да станете чрез тях участници в божественото естество, като сте избягали от произлязлото от похотта разложение в света;
5 (E)поради тази причина положете всяко старание и прибавете към вярата си добродетел, към добродетелта си – благоразумие,
6 към благоразумието си – себеобуздание, към себеобузданието си – търпение, към търпението си – благочестие,
7 (F)към благочестието си – братолюбие, и към братолюбието си – любов.
8 (G)Защото ако тези добродетели се намират у вас и изобилстват, те не допускат да бъдете безделни, нито безплодни в познаването на нашия Господ Исус Христос.
9 (H)Но онзи, у когото те не се намират, е сляп, късоглед и е забравил, че е бил очистен от старите си грехове.
10 (I)Затова, братя, постарайте се още повече да затвърдявате вашето призвание и избиране; защото като вършите това, никога няма да отпаднете.
11 Понеже така ще ви се даде голям достъп във вечното царство на нашия Господ и Спасител Исус Христос.
12 (J)Затова винаги ще бъда готов да ви напомням за тези работи, ако и да ги знаете и да сте утвърдени в истината, която сте приели.
13 (K)И мисля, че е правилно, докато съм в тази телесна хижа[a], да ви подтиквам чрез напомняне;
14 (L)понеже зная, че скоро ще напусна хижата си, както ми извести нашият Господ Исус Христос.
15 Даже ще се постарая, така че вие и след смъртта ми да можете винаги да помните тези работи.
Свидетелството на пророците и апостолите
16 (M)Защото когато ви обявихме силата и пришествието на нашия Господ Исус Христос, ние не следвахме хитро измислени басни, а бяхме очевидци на Неговото величие.
17 (N)Защото Той прие от Бога Отца почест и слава, когато от великолепната Слава дойде до Него такъв глас: „Този е Моят възлюбен Син, в Когото е Моето благоволение.“
18 (O)И самите ние чухме този глас да идва от небето, когато бяхме с Него на святата планина.
19 (P)И така, пророческото слово става още по-достоверно за нас; и вие добре правите, че внимавате в него като в светило, което свети в тъмно място, докато се зазори и зорницата изгрее в сърцата ви.
20 И това да знаете преди всичко, че никое пророчество в Писанието не е собствено обяснение на пророка на Божията воля;
21 (Q)защото никога не е идвало пророчество по човешка воля, а святите човеци са говорили от Бога, движени от Святия Дух.

1 Simon Pietro, servo e apostolo di Gesú Cristo, a coloro che hanno ricevuto in sorte una fede preziosa quanto la nostra nella giustizia del nostro Dio e Salvatore Gesù Cristo:
2 grazia e pace vi siano moltiplicate nella conoscenza di Dio e di Gesú, nostro Signore.
3 Poiché la sua divina potenza ci ha donato tutte le cose che appartengono alla vita e alla pietà, per mezzo della conoscenza di colui che ci ha chiamati mediante la sua gloria e virtú,
4 attraverso le quali ci sono donate le preziose e grandissime promesse, affinché per mezzo di esse diventiate partecipi della natura divina, dopo essere fuggiti dalla corruzione che è nel mondo a motivo della concupiscenza.
5 Anche voi per questa stessa ragione usando ogni diligenza, aggiungete alla vostra fede la virtú, alla virtú la conoscenza,
6 alla conoscenza l'auto-controllo, all'auto-controllo la perseveranza, alla perseveranza la pietà
7 alla pietà l'affetto fraterno e all'affetto fraterno l'amore.
8 Perché, se queste cose si trovano in voi abbondantemente, non vi renderanno pigri né sterili nella conoscenza del Signore nostro Gesú Cristo.
9 Chi invece non ha queste cose è cieco e miope, perché ha dimenticato di essere stato purificato dai suoi vecchi peccati.
10 Perciò, fratelli, sforzatevi sempre maggiormente di rendere sicura la vostra vocazione ed elezione perché, facendo queste cose, non inciamperete mai.
11 Cosí infatti vi sarà ampiamente concesso l'ingresso nel regno eterno del nostro Signore e Salvatore Gesú Cristo.
12 Perciò non tralascerò di ricordarvi del continuo queste cose, benché le conosciate già e siate saldi nella verità che ora avete.
13 Ma ritengo giusto, finché sono in questa tenda, di tenervi desti ricordandovi queste cose,
14 sapendo che presto dovrò lasciare questa mia tenda, come me l'ha dichiarato il Signor nostro Gesú Cristo.
15 Ma farò in modo che, anche dopo la mia dipartita, voi possiate sempre ricordarvi di queste cose.
16 Infatti non vi abbiamo fatto conoscere la potenza e la venuta del Signor nostro Gesú Cristo, andando dietro a favole abilmente escogitate, ma perché siamo stati testimoni oculari della sua maestà.
17 Egli ricevette infatti da Dio Padre onore e gloria, quando dalla maestosa gloria gli fu rivolta questa voce: «Questi è il mio amato Figlio, nel quale mi sono compiaciuto».
18 E noi udimmo questa voce recata dal cielo, quando eravamo con lui sul monte santo.
19 Noi abbiamo anche la parola profetica piú certa a cui fate bene a porgere attenzione, come a una lampada che splende in un luogo oscuro, finché spunti il giorno e la stella mattutina sorga nei vostri cuori,
20 sapendo prima questo: che nessuna profezia della Scrittura è soggetta a particolare interpretazione.
21 Nessuna profezia infatti è mai proceduta da volontà d'uomo, ma i santi uomini di Dio hanno parlato, perché spinti dallo Spirito Santo.

1 Simon Peter, a servant(A) and apostle of Jesus Christ,(B)
To those who through the righteousness(C) of our God and Savior Jesus Christ(D) have received a faith as precious as ours:
2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance(E) through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.(F)
Confirming One’s Calling and Election
3 His divine power(G) has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him(H) who called us(I) by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises,(J) so that through them you may participate in the divine nature,(K) having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.(L)
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;(M) 6 and to knowledge, self-control;(N) and to self-control, perseverance;(O) and to perseverance, godliness;(P) 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.(Q) 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive(R) in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.(S) 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,(T) forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.(U)
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling(V) and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,(W) 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom(X) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.(Y)
Prophecy of Scripture
12 So I will always remind you of these things,(Z) even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth(AA) you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory(AB) as long as I live in the tent of this body,(AC) 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside,(AD) as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.(AE) 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure(AF) you will always be able to remember these things.
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power,(AG) but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.(AH) 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”[b](AI) 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.(AJ)
19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable,(AK) and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light(AL) shining in a dark place, until the day dawns(AM) and the morning star(AN) rises in your hearts.(AO) 20 Above all, you must understand(AP) that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God(AQ) as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.(AR)

1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
