Commendable Ministers of God

And (A)working together with Him, (B)we also plead with you not to receive (C)the grace of God in vain— for He says,

(D)At the acceptable time I listened to you,
And on the day of salvation I helped you.”

Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”— (E)giving no cause for offense in anything, so that the ministry will not be discredited, but in everything (F)commending ourselves as (G)ministers of God, (H)in much perseverance, in afflictions, in distresses, in hardships, in (I)beatings, in imprisonments, in (J)disturbances, in labors, in sleeplessness, in (K)hunger, in purity, in (L)knowledge, in (M)patience, in kindness, in the (N)Holy Spirit, in (O)unhypocritical love, in (P)the word of truth, in (Q)the power of God; by (R)the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left, by glory and (S)dishonor, by (T)evil report and good report; regarded as (U)deceivers and yet (V)true; as unknown and yet well-known, as (W)dying and yet behold, (X)we live; as [a]punished and yet not put to death, 10 as (Y)sorrowful but always (Z)rejoicing, as (AA)poor but making many rich, as (AB)having nothing and yet possessing (AC)all things.

11 (AD)Our mouth [b]has spoken freely to you, O Corinthians, our (AE)heart is opened wide. 12 You are not restrained [c]by us, but (AF)you are restrained in your own [d]affections. 13 Now in a like (AG)exchange—I speak as to (AH)children—open wide to us also.

14 (AI)Do not be unequally yoked with (AJ)unbelievers; for what (AK)partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what (AL)harmony has Christ with [e]Belial, or [f]what has a (AM)believer in common with an (AN)unbeliever? 16 Or (AO)what agreement has a [g]sanctuary of God with idols? For we are (AP)a sanctuary of (AQ)the living God; just as God said,

(AR)I will (AS)dwell in them and (AT)walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
17 (AU)Therefore, (AV)come out from their midst and be separate,” says the [h]Lord.
And do not touch what is unclean,
And I will welcome you.
18 (AW)And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be (AX)sons and daughters to Me,”
says the [i]Lord Almighty.

Working together with him, we also appeal to you, “Don’t receive the grace of God in vain.” For he says:

At an acceptable time I listened to you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.[a](A)

See, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation!(B)

The Character of Paul’s Ministry

We are not giving anyone an occasion for offense, so that the ministry will not be blamed. Instead, as God’s ministers, we commend ourselves in everything: by great endurance, by afflictions, by hardships, by difficulties, by beatings, by imprisonments,(C) by riots, by labors, by sleepless nights, by times of hunger, by purity,(D) by knowledge,(E) by patience,(F) by kindness,(G) by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,(H) by the word of truth,[b](I) by the power of God;(J) through weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left, through glory(K) and dishonor, through slander and good report; regarded as deceivers, yet true; as unknown, yet recognized; as dying, yet see—we live; as being disciplined, yet not killed; 10 as grieving, yet always rejoicing;(L) as poor, yet enriching many; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. 11 We have spoken openly to you, Corinthians; our heart has been opened wide. 12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13 I speak as to my children; as a proper response, open your heart to us.

Separation to God

14 Do not be yoked together with those who do not believe. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness?(M) Or what fellowship does light(N) have with darkness?(O) 15 What agreement does Christ have with Belial?[c] Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols?(P) For we[d] are the temple of the living God, as God said:

I will dwell(Q)
and walk among them,
and I will be their God,(R)
and they will be my people.[e](S)
17 Therefore, come out from among them
and be separate, says the Lord;
do not touch any unclean thing,
and I will welcome you.[f](T)
18 And I will be a Father(U) to you,
and you will be sons(V) and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.[g](W)
