¹⁶ but they continually ^(A)mocked the messengers of God, ^(B)despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, ^(C)until the wrath of Yahweh arose against His people, until there was no remedy.

Lament over Jerusalem

³⁷ “^(A)Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who ^(B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, ^(C)the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you did not want it.

^52 (A)And which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of ^(B)the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers ^(C)you have now become;

^15 (A)who both killed the Lord Jesus and ^(B)the prophets, and ^[a]drove us out, and do not please God, and are hostile to all men,

³³ who through faith ^(A)conquered kingdoms, ^(B)performed righteousness, ^(C)obtained promises, ^(D)shut the mouths of lions, ^34 (E)quenched the power of fire, ^(F)escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong from weakness, ^(G)became mighty in war, ^(H)put foreign armies to flight. ^35 (I)Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their ^[a]release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; ³⁶ and others ^[b]experienced mockings and floggings, yes, also ^(J)chains and imprisonment. ³⁷ They were ^(K)stoned, they were ^(L)sawn in two, ^[c]they were tempted, they were ^(M)put to death with the sword. They went about ^(N)in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ^(O)mistreated ³⁸ (of whom the world was not worthy), ^(P)wandering in desolate places and mountains and caves and holes ^[d]in the ground.

³⁹ And all these, having ^[e](Q)gained approval through their faith, ^(R)did not receive ^[f]what was promised, ⁴⁰ because God had ^[g]provided ^(S)something better for us, so that ^(T)apart from us they would not be made perfect.
