  1. Judges 15:8 Lit leg on thigh

15 And he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, so he sent forth his hand and took it and struck down (A)1,000 men with it. 16 Then Samson said,

“With the jawbone of a donkey,
[a]Heaps upon heaps,
With the jawbone of a donkey
I have struck down 1,000 men.”

17 Now it happened that when he had finished speaking, he threw the jawbone from his hand; and he named that place [b]Ramath-lehi. 18 Then he became very thirsty, and he (B)called to Yahweh and said, “You have given this great salvation by the hand of Your slave, but now [c]shall I die of thirst [d]and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?” 19 So God split the hollow place that is in Lehi and water came out of it. Then he drank, (C)and his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore he named it [e]En-hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day. 20 And (D)he judged Israel twenty years in (E)the days of the Philistines.

51 Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and (A)took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and put him to death and cut off his head with it. (B)Then the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, so they fled. 52 But the men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted and pursued the Philistines [a]as far as the valley and to the gates of (C)Ekron. And the slain Philistines lay fallen along the way to (D)Shaaraim, even to Gath and Ekron. 53 Then the sons of Israel returned from hotly pursuing the Philistines and plundered their camps. 54 And David took the Philistine’s head and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his weapons in his tent.

55 Now when Saul saw David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is (E)this young man?” And Abner said, “By your life, O king, I do not know.” 56 And the king said, “You inquire whose son the youth is.” 57 So when David returned from striking down the Philistine, Abner took him and (F)brought him before Saul with the Philistine’s head in his hand. 58 And Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man?” And David answered, “(G)I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

David Strikes Down Nations

(A)Now it happened afterwards, that David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took [a]control of the chief city from the hand of the Philistines.

(B)He also struck (C)Moab, and measured them with the line, making them lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death and one full line to keep alive. And (D)the Moabites became servants to David, (E)bringing tribute.

Then David struck (F)Hadadezer, the son of Rehob king of Zobah, as (G)he went to restore his [b]power at the [c]River. And David captured from him 1,700 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers; and David (H)hamstrung all the chariot horses, but left enough of them for 100 chariots. Then (I)the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, king of Zobah. And David struck down 22,000 Arameans. Then David placed garrisons among the Arameans of Damascus; and (J)the Arameans became servants to David, bringing tribute. And (K)Yahweh granted salvation to David wherever he went.

15 Then the Arameans saw that they had been [a]defeated by Israel. So they gathered themselves together. 16 (A)And Hadadezer sent and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the [b]River, and they came to Helam; and (B)Shobach the commander of the army of Hadadezer [c]led them. 17 And it was told to David, so he gathered all Israel together and crossed the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Arameans arranged themselves to meet David and fought against him. 18 But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed of the Arameans (C)700 charioteers and 40,000 horsemen and struck down Shobach the commander of their army, and he died there. 19 Then all the kings, the servants of Hadadezer, saw that they were [d]defeated by Israel. So (D)they made peace with Israel and served them. And the Arameans were afraid to save the sons of Ammon anymore.
