²² Hannah did not go. She said to her husband, “After the boy is weaned, I will take him and present^(A) him before the Lord, and he will live there always.”^[a]

²⁸ So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life^(A) he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.

¹¹ And she made a vow,^(A) saying, “Lord Almighty^(B), if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember^(C) me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life,^(D) and no razor^(E) will ever be used on his head.”

Jesus Presented in the Temple

²² When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses,^(A) Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

The Boy Jesus at the Temple

⁴¹ Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover.^{(A) 42} When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom.

The Lord Calls Samuel

3 The boy Samuel ministered^(A) before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare;^(B) there were not many visions.^(C)

¹⁸ But Samuel was ministering^(A) before the Lord—a boy wearing a linen ephod.^(B)

¹¹ Then Elkanah went home to Ramah,^(A) but the boy ministered^(B) before the Lord under Eli the priest.

¹⁶ Three times a year all your men must appear^(A) before the Lord your God at the place he will choose: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread,^(B) the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles.^(C) No one should appear before the Lord empty-handed:^(D)
