Le offerte
29 Il re Davide disse a tutta l'assemblea: «Salomone mio figlio, il solo che Dio ha scelto, è ancora giovane e debole, mentre l'impresa è grandiosa, perché la Dimora non è destinata a un uomo ma al Signore Dio. 2 Secondo tutta la mia possibilità ho fatto preparativi per il tempio del mio Dio; ho preparato oro su oro, argento su argento, bronzo su bronzo, ferro su ferro, legname su legname, ònici, brillanti, topàzi, pietre di vario valore e pietre preziose e marmo bianco in quantità. 3 Inoltre, per il mio amore per la casa del mio Dio, quanto possiedo in oro e in argento dò per il tempio del mio Dio, oltre quanto ho preparato per il santuario: 4 tremila talenti d'oro, d'oro di Ofir, e settemila talenti d'argento raffinato per rivestire le pareti interne, 5 l'oro per gli oggetti in oro, l'argento per quelli in argento e per tutti i lavori da eseguirsi dagli artisti. Ringraziamento di Davide
10 Davide benedisse il Signore davanti a tutta l'assemblea. Davide disse: «Sii benedetto, Signore Dio di Israele, nostro padre, ora e sempre. 11 Tua, Signore, è la grandezza, la potenza, la gloria, lo splendore e la maestà, perché tutto, nei cieli e sulla terra, è tuo. Signore, tuo è il regno; tu ti innalzi sovrano su ogni cosa. 12 Da te provengono la ricchezza e la gloria; tu domini tutto; nella tua mano c'è forza e potenza; dalla tua mano ogni grandezza e potere. 13 Ora, nostro Dio, ti ringraziamo e lodiamo il tuo nome glorioso. 14 E chi sono io e chi è il mio popolo, per essere in grado di offrirti tutto questo spontaneamente? Ora tutto proviene da te; noi, dopo averlo ricevuto dalla tua mano, te l'abbiamo ridato. 15 Noi siamo stranieri davanti a te e pellegrini come tutti i nostri padri. Come un'ombra sono i nostri giorni sulla terra e non c'è speranza. 16 Signore nostro Dio, quanto noi abbiamo preparato per costruire una casa al tuo santo nome proviene da te, è tutto tuo. 17 So, mio Dio, che tu provi i cuori e ti compiaci della rettitudine. Io, con cuore retto, ho offerto spontaneamente tutte queste cose. Dirigi i loro cuori verso di te. 19 A Salomone mio figlio concedi un cuore sincero perché custodisca i tuoi comandi, le tue disposizioni e i tuoi decreti, perché eseguisca tutto ciò e costruisca l'edificio, per il quale io ho eseguito i preparativi».
20 Davide disse a tutta l'assemblea: «Su, benedite il Signore vostro Dio!». Tutta l'assemblea benedisse il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri; si inginocchiarono e si prostrarono davanti al Signore e al re.
Avvento di Salomone e morte di Davide
21 Offrirono sacrifici al Signore e gli bruciarono olocausti il giorno dopo: mille giovenchi, mille arieti, mille agnelli con le relative libazioni, oltre numerosi sacrifici per tutto Israele. 22 Mangiarono e bevvero alla presenza del Signore in quel giorno con manifestazioni di grande gioia. Di nuovo proclamarono re Salomone, figlio di Davide, lo unsero, consacrando lui al Signore come capo e Zadòk come sacerdote.
23 Salomone sedette sul trono del Signore come re al posto di Davide suo padre; prosperò e tutto Israele gli fu sottomesso. 24 Tutti gli ufficiali, i prodi e anche tutti i figli del re Davide si sottomisero al re Salomone. 25 Il Signore rese grande Salomone di fronte a tutto Israele e gli diede uno splendore di regno, che nessun predecessore in Israele aveva avuto.
26 Davide, figlio di Iesse, aveva regnato su tutto Israele. 27 La durata del suo regno su Israele era stata di quarant'anni; in Ebron aveva regnato sette anni e in Gerusalemme trentatrè. 28 Morì molto vecchio, sazio di anni, di ricchezza e di gloria. Al suo posto divenne re il figlio Salomone.
29 Le gesta del re Davide, le prime come le ultime, ecco sono descritte nei libri del veggente Samuele, nel libro del profeta Natan e nel libro del veggente Gad, 30 con tutta la storia del suo regno, della sua potenza e di quanto avvenne in quei tempi durante la sua vita, in Israele e in tutti i regni degli altri paesi.

29 Poi il re Davide disse a tutta l'assemblea: «Salomone, mio figlio, il solo che DIO abbia scelto, è ancora giovane e inesperto, mentre l'opera è grande, perché questo palazzo non destinato a un uomo, ma all'Eterno DIO.
2 Con tutte le mie possibilità ho fatto preparare per la casa del mio DIO oro per le cose d'oro, argento perle cose d'argento, bronzo per le cose di bronzo, ferro per le cose di ferro, legno per le cose di legno, pietre d'onice e pietre da incastonare, pietre brillanti e di diversi colori, ogni sorta di pietre preziose e marmo in gran quantità.
3 Inoltre, poiché ho riposto il mio amore sulla casa del mio DIO, oltre a tutto ciò che ho preparato per la casa del santuario, dono per la casa del mio DIO il mio personale tesoro d'oro e d'argento:

7 e diedero per il lavoro della casa di DIO cinquemila talenti d'oro, diecimila darici, d'oro, diecimila talenti d'argento, diciottomila talenti di bronzo e centomila talenti di ferro.
8 Chiunque possedeva pietre preziose, le consegnò nelle mani di Jehiel, il Gherhonita, perché fossero riposte nel tesoro della casa dell'Eterno.
9 Il popolo si rallegrò delle loro offerte volontarie, perché avevano fatto quelle offerte all'Eterno con tutto il cuore; anche il re Davide si rallegrò grandemente.
10 Cosí Davide benedisse l'Eterno davanti a tutta l'assemblea e disse: «Benedetto sei tu, o Eterno, DIO di Israele, nostro padre, per tutta l'eternità.
11 Tua, o Eterno è la grandezza, la potenza, la gloria, lo splendore, la maestà, perché tutto ciò che è in cielo e sulla terra è tuo. Tuo, o Eterno, è il regno, e tu ti innalzi sovrano sopra ogni cosa.
12 Da te vengono la ricchezza e la gloria; tu domini su tutto; nella tua mano, sono la forza e la potenza, e tu hai il potere di rendere grande e di dare forza a tutti.
13 Ora dunque, o DIO nostro, noi ti ringraziamo e celebriamo il tuo nome glorioso.
14 Ma chi sono io e chi è il mio popolo, che siamo in grado di offrirti tutto questo spontaneamente? Tutte le cose infatti vengono da te, e noi ti abbiamo semplicemente dato ciò che abbiamo ricevuto dalla tua mano.
15 Poiché noi siamo stranieri e pellegrini davanti a te come furono i nostri padri. I nostri giorni sulla terra sono come un'ombra e non c'è speranza.
16 O Eterno, DIO nostro, tutta questa abbondanza di cose che abbiamo preparato per costruire un tempio a te, al tuo santo nome, viene dalla tua mano, è tutto tuo.
17 lo so o mio DIO, che tu provi il cuore e ti compiaci della rettitudine. Perciò nella rettitudine del mio cuore ti ho offerto spontaneamente tutte queste cose, e ora vedo con gioia il tuo popolo, che è qui presente fare le sue offerte spontaneamente.
18 O Eterno DIO di Abrahamo, di Isacco e di Israele, nostri padri, mantieni sempre queste disposizioni e pensieri nel cuore del tuo popolo e dirigi i loro cuori verso di te;
19 e da' a Salomone, mio figlio, un cuore integro, perché osservi i tuoi comandamenti, i tuoi precetti e i tuoi statuti, perché faccia tutte queste cose e costruisca il tempio per il quale ho fatto i preparativi».
20 Poi Davide disse a tutta l'assemblea: «Ora benedite l'Eterno, il vostro DIO». Tutta l'assemblea allora benedisse l'Eterno, il DIO dei loro padri; si inchinarono e si prostrarono davanti all'Eterno e davanti al re.
21 Il giorno dopo immolarono sacrifici all'Eterno e gli offrirono olocausti: mille torelli, mille montoni, mille agnelli con le relative libazioni, e numerosi sacrifici per tutto Israele.
22 In quel giorno mangiarono e bevvero davanti all'Eterno con grande gioia; e per la seconda volta proclamarono re Salomone, figlio di Davide e lo unsero davanti all'Eterno perchè fosse principe e Tsadok perché fosse sacerdote.
23 Poi Salomone sedette sul trono dell'Eterno come re al posto di Davide, suo padre; prosperò e tutto Israele gli ubbidí.
24 Tutti i capi, gli uomini prodi e anche tutti i figli del re Davide si sottomisero al re Salomone.
25 Cosí l'Eterno rese assai grande Salomone davanti a tutto Israele e gli diede una maestà regale che nessun altro re prima di lui in Israele aveva mai avuto.
26 Ora Davide, figlio di Isai, regnò su tutto Israele.
27 Il tempo che regnò sopra Israele fu di quarant'anni: a Hebron regnò sette anni, e a Gerusalemme regnò trentatrè anni.
28 Morí molto vecchio d'età, sazio di giorni, di ricchezze e di gloria. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Salomone.

29 And David the king saith to all the assembly, `Solomon my son -- the one on whom God hath fixed -- [is] young and tender, and the work [is] great, for not for man is the palace, but for Jehovah God;
2 and with all my power I have prepared for the house of my God, the gold for [things of] gold, and the silver for [those of] silver, and the brass for [those of] brass, the iron for [those of] iron, and the wood for [those of] wood, shoham stones, and settings, and stones of painting and of diverse colours, and all [kinds of] precious stone, and stones of white marble, in abundance.
3 `And again, because of my delighting in the house of my God, the substance I have -- a peculiar treasure of gold and silver -- I have given for the house of my God, even over and above all I have prepared for the house of the sanctuary:
4 three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses,
5 even gold for [things of] gold, and silver for [those of] silver, and for all the work by the hand of artificers; and who [is] he that is offering willingly to consecrate his hand to-day to Jehovah?'
6 And the heads of the fathers, and the heads of the tribes of Israel, and the heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, even to the heads of the work of the king, offer willingly.
7 And they give for the service of the house of God, of gold -- talents five thousand, and drams a myriad; and of silver -- talents ten thousand, and of brass -- a myriad and eight thousand talents; and of iron -- a hundred thousand talents;
8 and he with whom stones are found hath given to the treasury of the house of Jehovah, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 And the people rejoice because of their offering willingly, for with a perfect heart they have offered willingly to Jehovah; and also David the king hath rejoiced -- great joy.
10 And David blesseth Jehovah before the eyes of all the assembly, and David saith, `Blessed [art] Thou, Jehovah, God of Israel our father, from age even unto age.
11 To Thee, O Jehovah, [is] the greatness, and the might, and the beauty, and the victory, and the honour, because of all in the heavens and in the earth; to Thee, O Jehovah, [is] the kingdom, and he who is lifting up himself over all for head;
12 and the riches, and the honour [are] from before Thee, and Thou art ruling over all, and in Thy hand [is] power and might, and in Thy hand, to make great, and to give strength to all.
13 `And now, our God, we are giving thanks to Thee, and giving praise to Thy beauteous name;
14 yea, because, who [am] I, and who [are] my people, that we retain power to offer thus willingly? but of Thee [is] the whole, and out of Thy hand we have given to Thee;
15 for sojourners we [are] before Thee, and settlers, like all our fathers; as a shadow [are] our days on the land, and there is none abiding.
16 `O Jehovah our God, all this store that we have prepared to build to Thee a house, for Thy holy name, [is] out of Thy hand, and of Thee [is] the whole.
17 `And I have known, my God, that Thou art trying the heart, and uprightness dost desire; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly offered all these: and now, Thy people who are found here I have seen with joy to offer willingly to Thee.
18 `O Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this to the age for the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of Thy people, and prepare their heart unto Thee;
19 and to Solomon my son give a perfect heart, to keep Thy commands, Thy testimonies, and Thy statutes, and to do the whole, even to build the palace [for] which I have prepared.'
20 And David saith to all the assembly, `Bless, I pray you, Jehovah your God;' and all the assembly bless Jehovah, God of their fathers, and bow and do obeisance to Jehovah, and to the king.
21 And they sacrifice to Jehovah sacrifices, and cause to ascend burnt-offerings to Jehovah on the morrow of that day, bullocks a thousand, rams a thousand, lambs a thousand, and their oblations, even sacrifices in abundance, for all Israel.
22 And they eat and drink before Jehovah on that day with great joy, and cause Solomon son of David to reign a second time, and anoint [him] before Jehovah for leader, and Zadok for priest.
23 And Solomon sitteth on the throne of Jehovah for king instead of David his father, and prospereth, and all Israel hearken unto him,
24 and all the heads, and the mighty men, and also all the sons of king David have given a hand under Solomon the king;
25 and Jehovah maketh Solomon exceedingly great before the eyes of all Israel, and putteth upon him the honour of the kingdom that hath not been on any king over Israel before him.
26 And David son of Jesse hath reigned over all Israel,
27 and the days that he hath reigned over Israel [are] forty years; in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three;
28 and he dieth in a good old age, satisfied with days, riches, and honour, and reign doth Solomon his son in his stead.
29 And the matters of David the king, the first and the last, lo, they are written beside the matters of Samuel the seer, and beside the matters of Nathan the prophet, and beside the matters of Gad the seer,
30 with all his reign, and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all kingdoms of the lands.

Gifts for Building the Temple
29 Then King David said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced.(A) The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God. 2 With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God—gold(B) for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise,[a](C) stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble—all of these in large quantities.(D) 3 Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided(E) for this holy temple: 4 three thousand talents[b] of gold (gold of Ophir)(F) and seven thousand talents[c] of refined silver,(G) for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5 for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today?”
6 Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials(H) in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.(I) 7 They(J) gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents[d] and ten thousand darics[e] of gold, ten thousand talents[f] of silver, eighteen thousand talents[g] of bronze and a hundred thousand talents[h] of iron. 8 Anyone who had precious stones(K) gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.(L) 9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly(M) to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.
David’s Prayer
10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
“Praise be to you, Lord,
the God of our father Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power(N)
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.(O)
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.(P)
12 Wealth and honor(Q) come from you;
you are the ruler(R) of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.
13 Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.
14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?(S) Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.(T) 15 We are foreigners and strangers(U) in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow,(V) without hope. 16 Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart(W) and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.(X) 18 Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 19 And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion(Y) to keep your commands, statutes and decrees(Z) and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”(AA)
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Praise the Lord your God.” So they all praised the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the Lord and the king.
Solomon Acknowledged as King(AB)
21 The next day they made sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to him:(AC) a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.(AD) 22 They ate and drank with great joy(AE) in the presence of the Lord that day.
Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok(AF) to be priest. 23 So Solomon sat(AG) on the throne(AH) of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons,(AI) pledged their submission to King Solomon.
25 The Lord highly exalted(AJ) Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendor(AK) such as no king over Israel ever had before.(AL)
The Death of David(AM)
26 David son of Jesse was king(AN) over all Israel.(AO) 27 He ruled over Israel forty years—seven in Hebron(AP) and thirty-three in Jerusalem.(AQ) 28 He died(AR) at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.(AS)
29 As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer,(AT) the records of Nathan(AU) the prophet and the records of Gad(AV) the seer, 30 together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.
