谋害耶稣
14 再过两天就是逾越节和除酵节，祭司长和律法教师正暗暗地找机会拘捕、杀害耶稣。
2 他们说：“我们不能在节期那天下手，以免在百姓中引起骚乱。”
耶稣受膏
3 耶稣在伯大尼村患过麻风病的西门家里吃饭，有个女人带了一瓶极贵重的纯哪哒香膏进来，把玉瓶打破，将香膏倒在耶稣头上。 4 有些人生气地彼此议论说：“为什么这样浪费？ 5 这瓶香膏可以卖三百多个银币[a]来周济穷人。”他们就责备那女人。
6 耶稣说：“随她吧！何必为难她呢？她在我身上做的是一件美事。 7 因为你们身边总会有穷人，你们随时都可以帮助他们，可是你们身边不会总有我。 8 她做了自己能做的。她是为我的安葬做准备，提前用香膏抹了我的身体。 9 我实在告诉你们，无论福音传到世界哪个角落，人们都会传扬这女人的事迹，纪念她。”
犹大出卖耶稣
10 十二门徒当中的加略人犹大去见祭司长，要把耶稣出卖给他们。 11 他们听了喜出望外，答应给他酬金。于是犹大伺机出卖耶稣。
最后的晚餐
12 除酵节的第一天，就是宰杀逾越节羔羊的那天，门徒问耶稣：“我们该到什么地方为你准备逾越节的晚餐呢？”
13 耶稣就派了两个门徒，并嘱咐他们：“你们进城会看到一个人带着一瓶水迎面而来，你们就跟着他。 14 他进哪一家，你们也跟着进去，对那家的主人说，‘我们的老师问你，祂的客房在哪里，祂要和门徒在里面吃逾越节的晚餐。’ 15 主人会带你们到楼上一间布置整齐的大房间，你们就在那里准备吧。”
16 两个门徒出去，进了城，所遇见的果然和耶稣所说的一样。他们预备了逾越节的晚餐。
17 傍晚时分，耶稣带着十二门徒来了。 18 用餐的时候，耶稣说：“我实在告诉你们，你们中间有一个人要出卖我，他现在正和我同桌吃饭。”
19 他们听了都感到不安，一个一个地问耶稣：“不是我吧？” 20 耶稣说：“是你们十二个人中的一个，他现在正和我一起在盘子里蘸饼吃。 21 人子一定会受害，正如圣经的记载，但出卖人子的人有祸了，他还不如不生在这世上！”
22 他们吃的时候，耶稣拿起饼来，祝谢后，便掰开，分给门徒，说：“拿去吃吧！这是我的身体。” 23 接着又拿起杯来，祝谢后，递给他们，他们都喝了。 24 耶稣说：“这是我为万人所流的立约之血。 25 我实在告诉你们，从今天起，一直到我在上帝的国喝新酒的那天之前，我不会再喝这葡萄酒。”
26 他们唱完诗歌，就出门去了橄榄山。
预言彼得不认主
27 耶稣对他们说：“你们都要背弃我，因为圣经上说，
“‘我要击打牧人，
羊群将四散。’
28 但我复活后，要先你们一步去加利利。”
29 彼得说：“即使所有人都背弃你，我也决不会背弃你！”
30 耶稣说：“我实在告诉你，就在今天晚上鸡叫两次以前，你会三次不认我。”
31 彼得郑重地说：“就算要我跟你一起死，我也不会不认你。”其他门徒也都这样说。
客西马尼园的祷告
32 他们到了客西马尼园，耶稣对门徒说：“你们坐在这里，我要去祷告。”
33 于是耶稣带着彼得、雅各和约翰向前走。祂觉得极其难过，非常伤痛， 34 说：“我心里非常忧伤，几乎要死，你们留在这里警醒。” 35 耶稣往前走了不远，俯伏在地祷告，如果可以，不要让那时刻临到祂。
36 祂说：“阿爸，父啊，你无所不能，求你撤去此杯。然而，愿你的旨意成就，而非我的意愿。”
37 祂回来，见他们都睡着了，就对彼得说：“西门，你在睡觉吗？你不能警醒一时吗？ 38 你们要警醒祷告，免得陷入诱惑。你们的心灵虽然愿意，肉体却很软弱。”
39 耶稣又去祷告，所祈求的跟上次一样。 40 祂回来时见他们又睡着了，因为他们困得眼皮发沉，也不知道对祂说什么。 41 祂第三次祷告回来后，对他们说：“你们还在睡觉休息吗？够了，时候到了，看啊，人子要被出卖、交在罪人的手里了。 42 起来，我们走吧。看啊，出卖我的人已经来了！”
耶稣被捕
43 耶稣还在说话的时候，十二门徒之一的犹大已带了一群人拿着刀棍迎面而来。他们奉了祭司长、律法教师和长老之命来捉拿耶稣。 44 出卖耶稣的犹大预先和他们定了暗号，说：“我亲吻谁，谁就是耶稣，你们把祂抓起来，小心押走。”
45 犹大随即走到耶稣跟前说：“老师。”然后就亲吻耶稣。 46 其他人就下手捉拿耶稣。 47 站在旁边的一个门徒拔出刀朝大祭司的奴仆砍去，削掉了他一只耳朵。
48 耶稣问那群人：“你们像对付强盗一样拿着刀棍来抓我吗？ 49 我天天和你们在一起，在圣殿里教导人，你们没有来抓我。你们现在这样做是要应验圣经的话。”
50 那时，门徒都撇下耶稣，各自逃命去了。 51 只有一个身上披着一块麻布的青年跟着耶稣。他们上去捉他， 52 他丢了那块麻布，赤身逃走了。
大祭司审问耶稣
53 他们把耶稣押到大祭司那里，众祭司长、长老和律法教师都来了。 54 那时彼得远远地跟着耶稣，一直来到大祭司的院子，与卫兵们坐在一起烤火。 55 祭司长和全公会的人正在寻找证据控告耶稣，要定祂死罪，只是找不到。 56 不少人作伪证控告祂，他们的证词却不一致。 57 后来，有几个人站起来作伪证说： 58 “我们听见祂说，‘我要拆毁这座人手建造的圣殿，三天内不靠人力另造一座。’” 59 即使这样，他们的证词也不一致。
60 最后，大祭司在众人面前站起来质问耶稣：“你不回答吗？这些人作证控告你的是什么呢？”
61 耶稣还是沉默不语，什么也不答。大祭司又问祂：“你是那当受称颂者的儿子基督吗？” 62 耶稣说：“我是！将来你们要看见人子坐在全能上帝的右边，驾着天上的云降临。”
63 大祭司便撕裂衣服，说：“我们还需要什么证人呢？ 64 你们听见祂说亵渎的话了，你们看怎么办？”他们都判祂死罪。
65 有几个人向祂吐唾沫，蒙上祂的眼睛，挥拳打祂，嘲笑祂说：“你说预言吧！”卫兵押祂下去时，也打祂。
彼得三次不认耶稣
66 那时，彼得仍在院子里，大祭司的一个婢女走过来， 67 见彼得在烤火，打量了他一番，说：“你也是那个拿撒勒人耶稣的同伙。”
68 “我不知道也不明白你在说什么！”彼得一边否认，一边躲到外院去。那时，鸡叫了。
69 一会儿，那婢女又看见彼得，就对旁边的人说：“他是跟他们一伙的！” 70 彼得又加以否认。
再过了一会儿，旁观的人也指着彼得说：“你一定是跟他们一伙的，因为你也是加利利人！”
71 彼得又赌咒又发誓，说：“我根本不认识你们说的这个人。” 72 就在这时候，鸡又叫了。彼得突然想起耶稣曾对他说：“在鸡叫两次以前，你会三次不认我”，忍不住痛哭起来。

The Plot to Kill Jesus
14 (A)It was now two days before (B)the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes (C)were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, (D)lest there be an uproar from the people.”
Jesus Anointed at Bethany
3 (E)And while he was at (F)Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[a] as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii[b] and (G)given to the poor.” And they (H)scolded her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For (I)you always have the poor with you, and whenever (J)you want, you can do good for them. But (K)you will not always have me. 8 (L)She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand (M)for burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever (N)the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told (O)in memory of her.”
Judas to Betray Jesus
10 (P)Then (Q)Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, (R)went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to (S)betray him.
The Passover with the Disciples
12 (T)And on (U)the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they (V)sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 13 And he sent (W)two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, 14 and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, (X)‘The Teacher says, Where is (Y)my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 And he will show you (Z)a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.” 16 And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
17 (AA)And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, (AB)Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, (AC)one who is eating with me.” 19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?” 20 He said to them, “It is (AD)one of the twelve, (AE)one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. 21 For the Son of Man goes (AF)as it is written of him, but (AG)woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! (AH)It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
Institution of the Lord's Supper
22 (AI)And as they were eating, he took bread, and after (AJ)blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; (AK)this is my body.” 23 And he took a cup, and when he had (AL)given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he said to them, (AM)“This is my (AN)blood of the[c] covenant, which is poured out for (AO)many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial
26 (AP)And when they had sung a hymn, (AQ)they went out to (AR)the Mount of Olives. 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will (AS)strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 But after I am raised up, (AT)I will go before you to Galilee.” 29 (AU)Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” 30 And (AV)Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before (AW)the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But (AX)he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
32 (AY)And they went (AZ)to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 And he took with him (BA)Peter and James and John, and began (BB)to be greatly distressed and troubled. 34 And he said to them, (BC)“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and (BD)watch.”[d] 35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground (BE)and prayed that, if it were possible, (BF)the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, (BG)“Abba, Father, (BH)all things are possible for you. Remove (BI)this cup from me. (BJ)Yet not what I will, but what you will.” 37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? 38 (BK)Watch and (BL)pray that you may not (BM)enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And again he went away and prayed, (BN)saying the same words. 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for (BO)their eyes were very heavy, and (BP)they did not know what to answer him. 41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
43 (BT)And immediately, while he was still speaking, (BU)Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.” 45 And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, (BV)“Rabbi!” And he (BW)kissed him. 46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his (BX)sword and struck the servant[e] of the high priest and cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 (BY)Day after day I was with you in the temple (BZ)teaching, and you did not seize me. But (CA)let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” 50 (CB)And they all left him and fled.
A Young Man Flees
51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but (CC)a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.
Jesus Before the Council
53 (CD)And (CE)they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. 54 (CF)And (CG)Peter had followed him at a distance, (CH)right into (CI)the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with (CJ)the guards and (CK)warming himself at the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole council[f] were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. 56 (CL)For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony (CM)did not agree. 57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, 58 (CN)“We heard him say, (CO)‘I will destroy this temple (CP)that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, (CQ)not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even about this their testimony did not agree. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[g] 61 But (CR)he remained silent and made no answer. (CS)Again the high priest asked him, “Are you (CT)the Christ, the Son of (CU)the Blessed?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am, and (CV)you will see the Son of Man (CW)seated at the right hand of Power, and (CX)coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 And the high priest (CY)tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need? 64 You have heard (CZ)his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they (DA)all condemned him as (DB)deserving death. 65 (DC)And some began (DD)to spit on him and (DE)to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him (DF)with blows.
Peter Denies Jesus
66 (DG)And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, 67 and seeing Peter (DH)warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway[h] and (DI)the rooster crowed.[i] 69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” 70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” 71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” 72 And immediately the rooster crowed (DJ)a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, (DK)“Before the rooster crows twice, you will (DL)deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.[j]

14 유월절과 누룩 없는 빵을 먹는 명절 이틀 전이었다. 높은 제사장들과 율법 선생들이 어떻게 하면 예수를 몰래 잡아 죽일 수 있을까 궁리하고 있었다. 2 그러면서도 백성들이 소동을 일으킬지도 모르니 명절은 피하자고 하였다.
한 여자가 예수께 향유를 부어 드리다
(마 26:6-13; 요 12:1-8)
3 예수께서 베다니에 있는 시몬의 집에서 음식을 잡숫고 계셨다. 시몬은 나병환자였던 사람이었다. 그때에 어떤 여자가 값진 나드 향유가 든 옥합을 가지고 예수께 왔다. 여자는 옥합을 깨뜨리고 향유를 예수의 머리에 부었다.
4 그 자리에 있던 몇몇 사람이 이것을 보고 화를 내며 자기들끼리 수군거렸다. “왜 이렇게 향유를 낭비하는 거야? 5 저런 값비싼 향유라면 일 년 치 품삯[a]보다 더 많은 돈을 받고 팔 수 있었을 텐데! 그 돈을 가난한 사람들한테 주었더라면 좋았을 것 아닌가!” 그들은 여자를 나무랐다.
6 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “그 여자를 가만 내버려 두어라. 이 여자는 나를 위해 아름다운 일을 하였다. 7 가난한 사람들은 언제나 너희와 함께 있을 것이다. 너희가 마음만 먹으면 그들을 어느 때든지 도울 수 있다. 그러나 나는 너희와 언제나 같이 있지 않을 것이다. 8 내 장례를 위하여 내 몸에 미리 향유를 부었으니, 이 여자는 자기가 할 수 있는 일을 한 것이다. 9 내가 분명히 말한다. 기쁜 소식이 온 세상에 전해질 것이다. 그리고 기쁜 소식이 전해지는 곳 어디에서나 이 여자를 기려 이 여자가 한 일을 말하게 될 것이다.”

10 열두 사도 가운데 한 사람이 높은 제사장들을 만나러 갔다. 그는 가리옷 사람 유다로, 예수를 그들에게 넘겨줄 생각을 하고 있었다. 11 높은 제사장들은 그의 제안을 듣고 좋아하였다. 그들은 유다에게 예수를 넘겨주면 돈을 주겠다고 약속하였다. 유다는 예수를 넘겨줄 기회를 엿보기 시작하였다.
유월절 식사

12 누룩 없는 빵을 먹는 명절의 첫날이었다. 이 날은 유대 사람들이 유월절에 쓸 양[b]을 잡는 날이었다. 제자들이 예수께 와서 여쭈었다. “저희가 어디로 가서, 선생님께서 드실 유월절 잔치 음식을 마련하면 좋겠습니까?”
13 예수께서 제자 가운데 두 사람을 보내며 말씀하셨다. “예루살렘 성 안으로 들어가거라. 그러면 물동이를 지고 가는 남자를 만나게 될 것이다. 그 남자를 따라가거라. 14 그가 들어가는 집으로 가서 그 집 주인을 만나서 이렇게 말하여라. ‘선생님께서 이렇게 여쭈어 보라고 하셨습니다. 내가 쓸 손님방이 어디 있느냐? 내가 거기서 제자들과 함께 유월절 잔치 음식을 먹으려고 한다.’ 15 그 집 주인은 너희에게 이층에 있는 큰 방을 보여 줄 것이다. 그 방은 모든 것이 갖추어져 있어 언제든지 쓸 준비가 되어 있을 것이다. 그곳에 우리가 먹을 음식을 준비해 놓아라.”
16 두 제자가 성 안으로 들어가 보니 모든 일이 예수께서 말씀하신 대로 되어 있었다. 그들은 거기에 유월절 잔치 음식을 차려 놓았다.
17 저녁에 예수께서 열두 사도와 함께 그 집으로 가셨다. 18 모두 상에 비스듬히 기대 앉아 음식을 먹고 있을 때에 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “내가 너희에게 분명히 말한다. 너희 열두 사람 가운데 한 사람이 나를 배반할 것이다. 그 사람은 지금 나와 함께 음식을 먹고 있다.”
19 제자들은 이 말을 듣고 걱정이 되어, 저마다 예수께 여쭈었다. “설마 저는 아니겠지요?”
20 예수께서 대답하셨다. “너희 열둘 가운데 한 사람이다. 그는 나와 같은 그릇에 빵을 적셔 먹는 사람이다.[c] 21 사람의 아들은 성경[d]에 쓰여 있는 대로 죽을 것이다. 그러나 사람의 아들을 죽이라고 넘겨주는 사람에게는 큰 화가 미칠 것이다. 그 사람은 차라리 태어나지 않은 편이 좋았을 것이다.”
마지막 저녁 식사

22 그들이 음식을 먹고 있을 때에, 예수께서 빵을 집어 들고 하나님께 감사 기도를 드렸다. 그리고 제자들에게 빵을 나누어 주시면서 말씀하셨다. “이 빵을 받아 먹어라. 이것은 내 몸이다.”
23 그런 다음 예수께서 포도주 잔을 들고 감사 기도를 드린 뒤에, 제자들에게 주셨다. 모든 제자들이 그 잔에서 포도주를 마셨다.
24 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “이 포도주는 내 피다. 내 피는 하나님께서 자기 백성과 맺으려 하시는 새로운 계약의 시작이다. 이 피는 많은 사람을 위하여 뿌려질 것이다. 25 내가 너희에게 분명히 말한다. 내가 하나님 나라에서 새 포도주를 마시게 될 그날까지 다시는 포도주를 마시지 않겠다.”
26 그들은 찬송을 부르고 난 다음, 밖으로 나가 올리브 산[e]으로 갔다.
제자들이 모두 예수를 버릴 것이다

27 예수께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 모두 믿음을 잃게 될 것이다. 성경에 그렇게 쓰여 있다.
‘내가 목자를 치리니
양 떼가 모두 흩어지리라.’(A)
28 그러나 나는 죽은 뒤에 다시 살아나서 갈릴리로 가겠다. 너희보다 먼저 그곳에 가 있겠다.”
29 베드로가 말하였다. “모든 사람이 다 주님을 버려도, 저는 주님을 버리지 않겠습니다.”
30 예수께서 대답하셨다. “내가 분명히 말한다. 오늘 저녁 너는 닭이 두 번 울기 전에 세 번이나 나를 모른다고 말할 것이다.”
31 그러나 베드로는 강하게 부인하였다. “저는 결코 선생님을 모른다고 말하지 않겠습니다. 차라리 선생님과 함께 죽겠습니다.” 다른 제자들도 모두 똑같이 말하였다.
예수께서 홀로 기도하시다

32 예수와 제자들은 겟세마네[f]라고 하는 곳에 이르렀다. 예수께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 기도하는 동안 여기 앉아 있어라.”
33 그리고 베드로와 야고보와 요한과 함께 조금 더 올라가셨다. 예수께서는 괴로움과 걱정에 싸여 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “내 영이[g] 괴로워 죽을 지경이구나. 34 너희는 여기 남아서 자지 말고 깨어 있어라.”
35 예수께서 세 제자를 남겨놓고 조금 떨어진 곳으로 가셔서, 땅에 엎드려 기도하셨다. 할 수만 있다면 이 고통의 시간이 자신을 비켜가게 해 달라고 기도하셨다. 36 “아바,[h] 아버지! 아버지는 무슨 일이든 다 하실 수 있습니다. 나에게서 이 고통의 잔을 치워 주십시오. 그러나 내 뜻이 아니라 아버지의 뜻이 이루어지기를 바랍니다.”
37 그러고 나서 예수께서 제자들에게로 돌아와 그들이 자고 있는 것을 보셨다. 베드로에게 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “시몬아! 네가 자고 있느냐? 너는 한 시간도 깨어 있을 수가 없더냐? 38 유혹에 빠지지 않도록 깨어 기도하여라. 마음은 원하는데 몸이 약하구나.”
39 예수께서 한 번 더 따로 가셔서 같은 기도를 하셨다. 40 그리고 돌아와 보시니 제자들은 자고 있었다. 너무 졸려서 눈을 뜨고 있을 수가 없었기 때문이었다. 그들은 예수를 보고도 무슨 말을 해야 할지 몰랐다.
41 예수께서 세 번째 기도를 마친 뒤에 제자들에게로 오셨다. 그리고 말씀하셨다. “너희는 아직도 자며 쉬고 있느냐? 이제 그만큼 잤으면 됐다. 시간이 다 되었다. 보라, 사람의 아들이 죄인들의 손에 넘겨진다. 42 일어나라. 가자! 보라! 저기 나를 넘겨줄 자가 오고 있구나.”
예수께서 잡히시다
(마 26:47-56; 눅 22:47-53; 요 18:3-12)
43 예수께서 아직 말씀하고 계시는데 유다가 가까이 왔다. 그는 열두 사도 가운데 한 사람이었다. 유다는 많은 사람과 함께 왔다. 이들은 높은 제사장들과 율법 선생들과 장로들이 보낸 사람들이었다. 그들은 칼과 몽둥이를 들고 있었다.
44 유다는 그들에게 신호를 보내기로 미리 약속해 놓고 있었다. “내가 입을 맞추는 사람이 바로 그 사람이요. 그를 붙잡아 단단히 끌고 가시오.” 45 그래서 유다는 예수께 다가와 “선생님!” 하고 불렀다. 그리고 예수께 입을 맞추었다. 46 그러자 사람들이 달려들어 예수를 붙잡았다. 47 예수 가까이에 서 있던 제자 하나가 칼을 빼어 들었다. 이 제자는 대제사장[i]의 종을 쳐서 그의 귀를 잘랐다.
48 예수께서 말씀하셨다. “너희가 나를 잡으려고 칼과 몽둥이를 들고 오다니, 내가 강도라도 된단 말이냐? 49 나는 날마다 성전에서 가르치며 너희와 함께 있었지만, 너희는 그곳에서 나를 잡지 않았다. 그러나 성경[j]에서 말한 모든 일이 이루어지게 하려고 이런 일이 일어났다.” 50 그때에 제자들은 모두 예수를 버리고 도망쳤다.
51 한 젊은이가 예수를 따라가고 있었다. 그는 몸에 홑이불만을 걸치고 있었다. 사람들은 이 젊은이도 같이 잡으려고 하였다. 52 그러자 그는 걸치고 있던 홑이불을 버리고 맨몸으로 도망쳤다.
유대 지도자들 앞에 서신 예수
(마 26:57-68; 눅 22:54-55, 63-71; 요 18:13-14, 19-24)
53 예수를 체포한 사람들은 그분을 대제사장에게로 끌고 갔다. 다른 높은 제사장들과 장로들과 율법 선생들이 그곳에 모여 있었다. 54 베드로는 멀찍이 떨어져서 예수를 따라갔다. 그는 대제사장의 집 마당 안으로 들어가 경비원들과 함께 앉아, 그곳에 있는 화톳불 곁에서 불을 쬐었다.
55 높은 제사장들과 모든 유대 의회 의원들은 예수를 사형에 처하려고 그에게 불리한 증거를 찾고 있었다. 그러나 그럴 만한 증거를 하나도 찾지 못하였다. 56 많은 사람이 예수께 불리한 증거를 댔지만, 그들의 말이 서로 달랐다.[k]
57 그러자 어떤 사람들이 일어나서 예수에 대해 이런 거짓 증거를 댔다. 58 “우리는 예수가 ‘나는 사람이 만든 이 성전을 헐고, 사흘 뒤에 사람의 손으로 만들지 않은 새 성전을 세우겠다.’ 고 말하는 것을 들었습니다.” 59 그러나 그들의 증거조차도 서로 엇갈렸다.
60 그러자 대제사장이 모든 사람 앞에 서서 예수께 말하였다. “이 사람들이 이렇게 당신에게 불리한 증언을 하는데, 당신은 대답할 말이 없소?” 61 그러나 예수께서는 계속 입을 다물고 물음에 대답하지 않으셨다.
대제사장은 예수께 다시 물었다. “당신이 찬송 받으실 분의 아들, 그리스도 요?”
62 예수께서 대답하셨다. “그렇소. 내가 사람의 아들이오. 당신들은 앞으로 사람의 아들이 전능하신 하나님의 오른쪽에 앉아 있는 것을 보게 될 것이오. 그리고 사람의 아들이 하늘의 구름을 타고 오는 것도 보게 될 것이오.”
63 대제사장은 이 말을 듣고 자신의 옷을 찢으며 말하였다. “우리에게 더 이상의 증거가 필요 없습니다! 64 여러분 모두 그가 하나님을 크게 모독하는 죄를 짓는 말을 직접 들었습니다. 어떻게들 생각하십니까?”
모든 사람이 예수의 죄가 커서 죽어 마땅하다고 말하였다. 65 어떤 사람들은 예수께 침을 뱉고, 그분의 눈을 가리고 때리기 시작하였다. 그러면서 말하였다. “누가 너를 때렸는지 알아맞혀 보라.” 예수를 넘겨받은 경비원들도 그분을 때렸다.
베드로가 무서워서 예수를 모른다고 말하다
(마 26:69-75; 눅 22:56-62; 요 18:15-18, 25-27)
66 베드로가 뜰 아래쪽에 있을 때에 대제사장의 여종 하나가 지나갔다. 67 그 여종은 베드로가 불을 쬐고 있는 것을 보고는 다가와 그를 자세히 살펴보았다.
그리고 말하였다. “당신도 저 나사렛 사람 예수와 함께 다녔군요.”
68 그러나 베드로는 그런 적이 없다고 말하였다. “도대체 무슨 말을 하는 거요? 나는 당신이 무슨 이야기를 하고 있는지 알 수가 없소.” 그는 이렇게 말하고 대문께로 갔다.[l]
69 그 여종은 베드로가 아직도 대문께에 서 있는 것을 보고는 다시 둘레에 있는 사람들에게 말하였다. “이 사람은 예수를 따라다니던 사람이에요!” 70 베드로는 다시 그 말을 부인하였다.
조금 뒤에 베드로의 곁에 서 있던 사람들이 말하였다. “당신도 갈릴리 사람이니 틀림없이 예수를 따라다니던 패거리들 가운데 하나일 거요.”
71 그러자 베드로는 거짓말이면 천벌이라도 받겠다고 하며 그들에게 맹세하였다. “나는 당신들이 말하는 이 사람을 알지도 못합니다!”
72 베드로가 이 말을 한 뒤에 닭이 두 번째 울었다. 베드로는, 예수께서 “닭이 두 번 울기 전에 너는 나를 세 번 모른다고 할 것이다.” 라고 하시던 말씀이 생각났다. 그는 정신없이 울었다.

Jesus Anointed at Bethany(A)(B)(C)
14 Now the Passover(D) and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.(E) 2 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”
3 While he was in Bethany,(F) reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.(G)
4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.
6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want.(H) But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.(I) 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world,(J) what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve,(K) went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.(L) 11 They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper(M)(N)
12 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb,(O) Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
13 So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14 Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 He will show you a large room upstairs,(P) furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”
16 The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”
19 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”
20 “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me.(Q) 21 The Son of Man(R) will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it(S) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.(T)
24 “This is my blood of the[c] covenant,(U) which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”(V)
26 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(W)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(X)
27 “You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written:
28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(Z)
29 Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.”
30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice[e] you yourself will disown me three times.”(AA)
31 But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you,(AB) I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.
Gethsemane(AC)
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John(AD) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”(AE) he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour(AF) might pass from him. 36 “Abba,[f] Father,”(AG) he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup(AH) from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”(AI)
37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(AJ) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(AK)
39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour(AL) has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(AM)
43 Just as he was speaking, Judas,(AN) one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.
44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!”(AO) and kissed him. 46 The men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48 “Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus, “that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts,(AP) and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”(AQ) 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.(AR)
51 A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(AS)(AT)
53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. 54 Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest.(AU) There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.(AV)
55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(AW) were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. 56 Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.
57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,(AX) not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.(AY)
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”(AZ)
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”(BA)
63 The high priest tore his clothes.(BB) “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”
They all condemned him as worthy of death.(BC) 65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.(BD)
Peter Disowns Jesus(BE)
66 While Peter was below in the courtyard,(BF) one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself,(BG) she looked closely at him.
“You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,”(BH) she said.
68 But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,”(BI) he said, and went out into the entryway.[g]
69 When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70 Again he denied it.(BJ)
After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”(BK)
71 He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”(BL)
72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.[h] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice[i] you will disown me three times.”(BM) And he broke down and wept.

35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
