Jesús envía a los doce(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)

10 Reunió a sus doce discípulos y les dio autoridad para expulsar a los espíritus malignos y sanar toda enfermedad y toda dolencia.

Estos son los nombres de los doce apóstoles: primero Simón, llamado Pedro, y su hermano Andrés; Jacobo y su hermano Juan, hijos de Zebedeo; Felipe y Bartolomé; Tomás y Mateo, el recaudador de impuestos; Jacobo, hijo de Alfeo, y Tadeo; Simón el Zelote y Judas Iscariote, el que lo traicionó.

Jesús envió a estos doce con las siguientes instrucciones: «No vayáis entre los gentiles ni entréis en ningún pueblo de los samaritanos. Id más bien a las ovejas descarriadas del pueblo de Israel. Dondequiera que vayáis, predicad este mensaje: “El reino de los cielos está cerca”. Sanad a los enfermos, resucitad a los muertos, limpiad de su enfermedad a los que tienen lepra, expulsad a los demonios. Lo que habéis recibido gratis, dadlo gratuitamente. No llevéis oro ni plata ni cobre en el cinturón, 10 ni bolsa para el camino, ni dos mudas de ropa, ni sandalias, ni bastón; porque el trabajador merece que se le dé su sustento.

11 »En cualquier pueblo o aldea donde entréis, buscad a alguien que merezca recibiros y quedaos en su casa hasta que os marchéis de ese lugar. 12 Al entrar, decid: “Paz a esta casa”.[a] 13 Si el hogar se lo merece, que vuestra paz reine en él; y, si no, que la paz se vaya con vosotros. 14 Si alguno no os recibe bien ni escucha vuestras palabras, al salir de esa casa o de ese pueblo, sacudíos el polvo de los pies. 15 Os aseguro que en el día del juicio el castigo para Sodoma y Gomorra será más tolerable que para ese pueblo. 16 Os envío como ovejas en medio de lobos. Por tanto, sed astutos como serpientes y sencillos como palomas.

17 »Tened cuidado con la gente; os entregarán a los tribunales y os azotarán en las sinagogas. 18 Por mi causa os llevarán ante gobernadores y reyes para dar testimonio a ellos y a los gentiles. 19 Pero, cuando os arresten, no os preocupéis por lo que vais a decir o cómo vais a decirlo. En ese momento se os dará lo que habéis de decir, 20 porque no seréis vosotros los que habléis, sino que el Espíritu de vuestro Padre hablará por medio de vosotros.

21 »El hermano entregará a la muerte al hermano, y el padre al hijo. Los hijos se rebelarán contra sus padres y harán que los maten. 22 Por causa de mi nombre, todo el mundo os odiará, pero el que se mantenga firme hasta el fin será salvo. 23 Cuando os persigan en una ciudad, huid a otra. Os aseguro que no terminaréis de recorrer las ciudades de Israel antes de que venga el Hijo del hombre.

24 »El discípulo no es superior a su maestro, ni el siervo superior a su amo. 25 Basta con que el discípulo sea como su maestro, y el siervo como su amo. Si al jefe de la casa lo han llamado Beelzebú, ¡cuánto más a los de su familia!

26 »Así que no les tengáis miedo; porque no hay nada encubierto que no llegue a revelarse, ni nada escondido que no llegue a conocerse. 27 Lo que os digo en la oscuridad, decidlo a plena luz; lo que se os susurra al oído, proclamadlo desde las azoteas. 28 No temáis a los que matan el cuerpo, pero no pueden matar el alma.[b] Temed más bien al que puede destruir alma y cuerpo en el infierno.[c] 29 ¿No se venden dos gorriones por una monedita?[d] Sin embargo, ni uno de ellos caerá a tierra sin que lo permita el Padre; 30 y él tiene contados aun los cabellos de vuestra cabeza. 31 Así que no tengáis miedo; vosotros valéis más que muchos gorriones.

32 »A cualquiera que me reconozca delante de los demás, yo también lo reconoceré delante de mi Padre que está en el cielo. 33 Pero a cualquiera que me desconozca delante de los demás, yo también lo desconoceré delante de mi Padre que está en el cielo.

34 »No creáis que he venido a traer paz a la tierra. No vine a traer paz, sino espada. 35 Porque he venido a poner en conflicto

»“al hombre contra su padre,
    a la hija contra su madre,
    a la nuera contra su suegra;
36 los enemigos de cada cual
    serán los de su propia familia”.[e]

37 »El que quiere a su padre o a su madre más que a mí no es digno de mí; el que quiere a su hijo o a su hija más que a mí no es digno de mí; 38 y el que no toma su cruz y me sigue no es digno de mí. 39 El que se aferre a su propia vida la perderá, y el que renuncie a[f] su propia vida por mi causa la encontrará.

40 »Quien os recibe a vosotros me recibe a mí; y quien me recibe a mí recibe al que me envió. 41 Cualquiera que recibe a un profeta por tratarse de un profeta recibirá recompensa de profeta; y el que recibe a un justo por tratarse de un justo recibirá recompensa de justo. 42 Y quien dé siquiera un vaso de agua fresca a uno de estos pequeños por tratarse de uno de mis discípulos, os aseguro que no perderá su recompensa».

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)

10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits(F) and to heal every disease and sickness.(G)

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.(H)

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.(I) Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.(J) As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven(K) has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts(L) 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.(M) 11 Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting.(N) 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.(O) 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah(P) on the day of judgment(Q) than for that town.(R)

16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.(S) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.(T) 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils(U) and be flogged in the synagogues.(V) 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings(W) as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.(X) At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father(Y) speaking through you.

21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents(Z) and have them put to death.(AA) 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me,(AB) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(AC) 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.(AD)

24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.(AE) 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul,(AF) how much more the members of his household!

26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.(AG) 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One(AH) who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[b] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.(AI) 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.(AJ)

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others,(AK) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.(AL)

34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law(AM)
36     a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c](AN)

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.(AO) 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.(AP) 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.(AQ)

40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me,(AR) and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(AS) 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”(AT)

10 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.

11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.

12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.

13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.

25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?

26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
