Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus^(A)

¹⁴ Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot^(B)—went to the chief priests ¹⁵ and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.^{(C) 16} From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

²⁵ Then Judas, the one who would betray him,^(A) said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?”^(B)

Jesus answered, “You have said so.”

Jesus Arrested^(A)

⁴⁷ While he was still speaking, Judas,^(B) one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

³ When Judas, who had betrayed him,^(A) saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver^(B) to the chief priests and the elders.

¹⁰ Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve,^(A) went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.^(B)

⁷¹ (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot,^(A) who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)^(B)

⁴ But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him,^(A) objected,

² The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.^(A)

²⁶ Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas,^(A) the son of Simon Iscariot.

²⁷ As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.^(A)

So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.”
