追述 神的作为训诲后世
亚萨的训诲诗。
78 我的民哪！你们要留心听我的教训，
侧耳听我口中的言语。（本节在《马索拉文本》包括细字标题）
2 我要开口用比喻，
把古时隐秘的事说出来，
3 就是我们所听过所知道的，
也是我们的列祖告诉我们的，
4 我们不把这些事向他们的子孙隐瞒，
却要把耶和华应得的赞美、他的能力，
和他所行的奇事，
都向后代的人述说。
5 他在雅各设立法度，
在以色列中制订律法，
就是他吩咐我们的列祖，
去教训他们的子孙的，
6 好使后代的人，包括将要出生的儿女，都可以知道；
他们也要起来，告诉他们的子孙，
7 使他们信靠 神，
不忘记 神的作为，
谨守他的诫命；
8 免得他们像他们的列祖，
成了顽梗悖逆的一代，
心不坚定的一代，
他们的心对 神不忠。
9 以法莲的子孙，虽然备有弓箭，
在争战的日子，却转身逃走。
10 他们不谨守 神的约，
不肯遵行他的律法。
11 他们忘记了 神的作为，
和他显给他们看的奇事。
12 他在埃及地，在琐安的田野，
在他们列祖的眼前，行了奇事。
13 他把海分开，领他们走过去，
又使海水直立像一道堤坝。
14 白日他用云彩，
夜间他用火光引导他们。
15 他在旷野使盘石裂开，
给他们水喝，多如深渊的水。
16 他使水从盘石中涌出来，
使水好象江河一般流下。
17 但他们仍然犯罪顶撞他，
在干旱之地仍然悖逆至高者。
18 他们心里试探 神，
随着自己的欲望要求食物。
19 他们妄论 神，说：
“ 神可以在旷野摆设筵席吗？
20 他虽曾击打盘石，使水涌出来，
好象江河泛滥，
他还能赐粮食吗？
他还能为自己的子民预备肉食吗？”
21 因此耶和华听见了，就大怒；
有烈火在雅各烧起，
有怒气向以色列发作。
22 因为他们不相信 神，
不倚靠他的拯救。
23 然而，他吩咐天上的云彩，
打开天上的门户。
24 他降吗哪给他们吃，
把天上的食物赐给他们。
25 于是人吃了天使的食物，
是 神赐下的食粮，使他们饱足。
26 他从天空刮起东风，
施能力领出南风。
27 他降肉食给他们，多如尘土；
又降飞鸟给他们，多如海沙。
28 他使飞鸟落在他们的营中，
在他们住处的四围。
29 他们吃了，而且吃得很饱，
这样， 神把他们所愿的都赐给他们了。
30 他们还没有因所愿的满足，
食物仍在他们口中的时候，
31 神的怒气就向他们发作，
杀了他们中间最肥壮的人，
击倒了以色列的年轻人。
32 虽然经历了这一切，他们仍然犯罪；
尽管看见这些奇事，他们仍不相信。
33 所以 神使他们的日子在虚空中消逝，
使他们的岁月在惊恐中完结。
34 神击杀他们的时候，他们就寻求他；

42 他们忘记了他的能力（“他的能力”直译是“他的手”），
就是他救赎他们脱离敌人的日子，
43 他怎样在埃及显神迹，
在琐安的田野行奇事。
44 他把他们的江河都变为血，
使他们不能喝河流的水。
45 他使成群的苍蝇到他们中间来，吞吃他们；
又使青蛙来毁灭他们。
46 他把他们的农产交给蚱蜢，
把他们辛劳的收获交给蝗虫。
47 他用冰雹摧毁他们的葡萄树，
用严霜冻坏他们的桑树。
48 又把他们的牲畜交给冰雹，
把他们的群畜交给闪电。
49 他使猛烈的怒气、忿怒、愤恨、患难，
好象一群降灾的使者，临到他们中间。
50 他为自己的怒气修平了路，
不惜使他们死亡，
把他们的性命交给瘟疫。
51 他在埃及击杀了所有的长子，
在含的帐棚中击杀了他们强壮时生的头胎子。
52 他却把自己的子民领出来好象领羊群，
在旷野引导他们像引导群畜一样。
53 他带领他们平平安安地走过去，所以他们不惧怕；
海却淹没了他们的仇敌。
54 他领他们进入自己圣地的境界，
到他右手所得的这山地。
55 他在他们面前把外族人赶出去，
用绳子量地，分给他们作为产业，
又使以色列众支派的人居住在自己的帐棚里。
56 但他们仍然试探和悖逆至高的 神，
不谨守他的法则。
57 他们背信不忠，像他们的列祖一样；
他们改变了，如同不可靠的弓。
58 因他们的邱坛，惹起他的怒气，
因他们雕刻的偶像，激起他的愤恨。
59 神听见就大怒，
完全弃绝了以色列。
60 他丢弃了在示罗的居所，
就是他在世人中间居住的帐棚。
61 他又把象征他权能的约柜交给人掳去，
把他的荣美交在敌人的手里，
62 并且把自己的子民交给刀剑，
向自己的产业大发烈怒。
63 他们的青年被火吞灭，
他们的少女也听不见结婚的喜歌。
64 他们的祭司倒在刀下，
他们的寡妇却不能哀哭。
65 那时主好象从睡眠中醒过来，
如同勇士酒后清醒一样。
66 他击退了他的敌人，
使他们永远蒙羞受辱。
67 他弃绝约瑟的帐棚，
不拣选以法莲支派，
68 却拣选了犹大支派，
他所爱的锡安山。
69 他建造了自己的圣所好象在高天之上，
又像他所建立永存的大地。
70 他拣选了自己的仆人大卫，
把他从羊圈中召出来；
71 他领他出来，使他不再跟着那些母羊，
却要牧养他的子民雅各，
和他的产业以色列。
72 于是大卫以正直的心牧养他们，
灵巧地引导他们。

78 Escucha, pueblo mío, mi ley;
Inclinad vuestro oído a las palabras de mi boca.
2 Abriré mi boca en proverbios;
Hablaré cosas escondidas desde tiempos antiguos,(A)
3 Las cuales hemos oído y entendido;
Que nuestros padres nos las contaron.
4 No las encubriremos a sus hijos,
Contando a la generación venidera las alabanzas de Jehová,
Y su potencia, y las maravillas que hizo.
5 Él estableció testimonio en Jacob,
Y puso ley en Israel,
La cual mandó a nuestros padres
Que la notificasen a sus hijos;
6 Para que lo sepa la generación venidera, y los hijos que nacerán;
Y los que se levantarán lo cuenten a sus hijos,
7 A fin de que pongan en Dios su confianza,
Y no se olviden de las obras de Dios;
Que guarden sus mandamientos,
8 Y no sean como sus padres,
Generación contumaz y rebelde;
Generación que no dispuso su corazón,
Ni fue fiel para con Dios su espíritu.
9 Los hijos de Efraín, arqueros armados,
Volvieron las espaldas en el día de la batalla.
10 No guardaron el pacto de Dios,
Ni quisieron andar en su ley;
11 Sino que se olvidaron de sus obras,
Y de sus maravillas que les había mostrado.
12 Delante de sus padres hizo maravillas
En la tierra de Egipto,(B) en el campo de Zoán.
13 Dividió el mar y los hizo pasar;
Detuvo las aguas como en un montón.(C)
14 Les guio de día con nube,

15 Hendió las peñas en el desierto,

16 Pues sacó de la peña corrientes,

17 Pero aún volvieron a pecar contra él,
Rebelándose contra el Altísimo en el desierto;
18 Pues tentaron a Dios en su corazón,
Pidiendo comida a su gusto.
19 Y hablaron contra Dios,
Diciendo: ¿Podrá poner mesa en el desierto?
20 He aquí ha herido la peña, y brotaron aguas,
Y torrentes inundaron la tierra;
¿Podrá dar también pan?
¿Dispondrá carne para su pueblo?
21 Por tanto, oyó Jehová, y se indignó;
Se encendió el fuego contra Jacob,
Y el furor subió también contra Israel,
22 Por cuanto no habían creído a Dios,
Ni habían confiado en su salvación.
23 Sin embargo, mandó a las nubes de arriba,
Y abrió las puertas de los cielos,
24 E hizo llover sobre ellos maná para que comiesen,
Y les dio trigo de los cielos.(F)
25 Pan de nobles comió el hombre;
Les envió comida hasta saciarles.
26 Movió el solano en el cielo,
Y trajo con su poder el viento sur,
27 E hizo llover sobre ellos carne como polvo,
Como arena del mar, aves que vuelan.
28 Las hizo caer en medio del campamento,
Alrededor de sus tiendas.
29 Comieron, y se saciaron;
Les cumplió, pues, su deseo.
30 No habían quitado de sí su anhelo,
Aún estaba la comida en su boca,
31 Cuando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios,
E hizo morir a los más robustos de ellos,
Y derribó a los escogidos de Israel.(G)
32 Con todo esto, pecaron aún,
Y no dieron crédito a sus maravillas.
33 Por tanto, consumió sus días en vanidad,
Y sus años en tribulación.
34 Si los hacía morir, entonces buscaban a Dios;
Entonces se volvían solícitos en busca suya,
35 Y se acordaban de que Dios era su refugio,
Y el Dios Altísimo su redentor.
36 Pero le lisonjeaban con su boca,
Y con su lengua le mentían;
37 Pues sus corazones no eran rectos con él,(H)
Ni estuvieron firmes en su pacto.
38 Pero él, misericordioso, perdonaba la maldad, y no los destruía;
Y apartó muchas veces su ira,
Y no despertó todo su enojo.
39 Se acordó de que eran carne,
Soplo que va y no vuelve.
40 ¡Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra él en el desierto,
Lo enojaron en el yermo!
41 Y volvían, y tentaban a Dios,
Y provocaban al Santo de Israel.
42 No se acordaron de su mano,
Del día que los redimió de la angustia;
43 Cuando puso en Egipto sus señales,
Y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán;
44 Y volvió sus ríos en sangre,
Y sus corrientes, para que no bebiesen.(I)
45 Envió entre ellos enjambres de moscas(J) que los devoraban,
Y ranas(K) que los destruían.
46 Dio también a la oruga sus frutos,
Y sus labores a la langosta.(L)
47 Sus viñas destruyó con granizo,
Y sus higuerales con escarcha;
48 Entregó al pedrisco sus bestias,
Y sus ganados a los rayos.(M)
49 Envió sobre ellos el ardor de su ira;
Enojo, indignación y angustia,
Un ejército de ángeles destructores.
50 Dispuso camino a su furor;
No eximió la vida de ellos de la muerte,
Sino que entregó su vida a la mortandad.
51 Hizo morir a todo primogénito en Egipto,(N)
Las primicias de su fuerza en las tiendas de Cam.
52 Hizo salir a su pueblo como ovejas,
Y los llevó por el desierto como un rebaño.(O)
53 Los guio con seguridad, de modo que no tuvieran temor;
Y el mar cubrió a sus enemigos.(P)
54 Los trajo después a las fronteras de su tierra santa,(Q)
A este monte que ganó su mano derecha.
55 Echó las naciones de delante de ellos;(R)

Y en gran manera aborreció a Israel.
60 Dejó, por tanto, el tabernáculo de Silo,
La tienda en que habitó entre los hombres,(T)
61 Y entregó a cautiverio su poderío,
Y su gloria en mano del enemigo.(U)
62 Entregó también su pueblo a la espada,
Y se irritó contra su heredad.
63 El fuego devoró a sus jóvenes,

64 Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada,
Y sus viudas no hicieron lamentación.
65 Entonces despertó el Señor como quien duerme,
Como un valiente que grita excitado del vino,
66 E hirió a sus enemigos por detrás;

67 Desechó la tienda de José,
Y no escogió la tribu de Efraín,
68 Sino que escogió la tribu de Judá,
El monte de Sion, al cual amó.
69 Edificó su santuario a manera de eminencia,
Como la tierra que cimentó para siempre.
70 Eligió a David su siervo,
Y lo tomó de las majadas de las ovejas;

Para que apacentase a Jacob su pueblo,

78 (1b) Pueblo mío, atiende a mi enseñanza;
¡inclínate a escuchar lo que te digo!
2 Voy a hablar por medio de refranes;
diré cosas que han estado en secreto
desde tiempos antiguos.
3 Lo que hemos oído y sabemos
y nuestros padres nos contaron,
4 no lo ocultaremos a nuestros hijos.
Con las generaciones futuras alabaremos al Señor
y hablaremos de su poder y maravillas.
5 Dios estableció una ley para Jacob;
puso una norma de conducta en Israel,
y ordenó a nuestros antepasados
que la enseñaran a sus descendientes,
6 para que la conocieran las generaciones futuras,
los hijos que habían de nacer,
y que ellos, a su vez, la enseñaran a sus hijos;
7 para que tuvieran confianza en Dios
y no olvidaran lo que él había hecho;
para que obedecieran sus mandamientos
8 y no fueran como sus antepasados,
rebeldes y necios,
faltos de firmeza en su corazón y espíritu;
¡generación infiel a Dios!
9 Los de la tribu de Efraín,
que estaban armados con arcos y flechas,
dieron la espalda el día del combate;
10 no respetaron su alianza con Dios
ni quisieron obedecer sus enseñanzas.
11 Se olvidaron de lo que él había hecho,
de las maravillas que les hizo ver.
12 Dios hizo maravillas delante de sus padres
en la región de Soan, que está en Egipto:
13 partió en dos el mar, y los hizo pasar por él,
deteniendo el agua como un muro.
14 De día los guió con una nube,
y de noche con luz de fuego.
15 En el desierto partió en dos las peñas,
y les dio a beber agua en abundancia.
16 ¡Dios hizo brotar de la peña
un torrente de aguas caudalosas!
17 Pero ellos siguieron pecando contra Dios;
se rebelaron contra el Altísimo en el desierto.
18 Quisieron ponerle a prueba
pidiendo comida a su antojo.
19 Hablaron contra él, diciendo:
«¿Acaso puede Dios servir una mesa en el desierto?
20 Es verdad que Dios partió la peña,
que de ella brotó agua como un río,
y que la tierra se inundó;
pero, ¿podrá dar también pan?
¿Podrá dar carne a su pueblo?»
21 Cuando el Señor oyó esto, se enojó;
¡su furor, como un fuego,
se encendió contra Jacob!
22 Porque no confiaron en Dios
ni creyeron en su ayuda.
23 Sin embargo, Dios dio órdenes a las nubes
y abrió las puertas del cielo;
24 ¡hizo llover sobre su pueblo el maná,
trigo del cielo, para que comieran!
25 ¡El hombre comió pan de ángeles!
¡Dios les dio de comer en abundancia!
26 El viento del este y el viento del sur
soplaron en el cielo;
¡Dios los trajo con su poder!
27 Hizo llover carne sobre su pueblo;
¡llovieron aves como arena del mar!
28 Dios las hizo caer en medio del campamento
y alrededor de las tiendas de campaña.
29 Y comieron hasta hartarse,
y así Dios les cumplió su deseo.
30 Pero aún no habían calmado su apetito,
todavía tenían la comida en la boca,
31 cuando el furor de Dios cayó sobre ellos
y mató a los hombres más fuertes.
¡Hizo morir a los mejores hombres de Israel!
32 A pesar de todo, volvieron a pecar;
no creyeron en las maravillas de Dios.
33 Por eso Dios puso fin a sus vidas
como si fueran un suspiro
y en medio de un terror espantoso.
34 Si Dios los hacía morir, entonces lo buscaban;
se volvían a él y lo buscaban sin descanso;
35 entonces se acordaban del Dios altísimo
que los protegía y los rescataba.
36 Pero con su boca y su lengua
le decían hermosas mentiras,
37 pues nunca le fueron sinceros
ni fieles a su alianza.
38 Pero Dios tenía compasión,
perdonaba su maldad y no los destruía;
muchas veces hizo a un lado el enojo
y no se dejó llevar por la furia.
39 Dios se acordó de que eran simples hombres;
de que eran como el viento, que se va y no vuelve.
40 ¡Cuántas veces desobedecieron a Dios
y le causaron dolor en el desierto!
41 Pero volvían a ponerlo a prueba;
¡entristecían al Santo de Israel!
42 No se acordaron de aquel día
cuando Dios, con su poder, los salvó del enemigo;
43 cuando en los campos de Soan, en Egipto,
hizo cosas grandes y asombrosas;
44 cuando convirtió en sangre los ríos,
y los egipcios no pudieron beber de ellos.
45 Mandó sobre ellos tábanos y ranas,
que todo lo devoraban y destruían;
46 entregó a la langosta las cosechas
por las que ellos habían trabajado.
47 Con granizo y escarcha
destruyó sus higueras y sus viñas.
48 Sus vacas y sus ovejas murieron
bajo el granizo y los rayos.
49 Dios les envió la furia de su enojo:
furor, condenación y angustia,
como mensajeros de calamidades.
50 ¡Dio rienda suelta a su furor!
No les perdonó la vida,
sino que los entregó a la muerte;
51 ¡hizo morir en Egipto mismo
al primer hijo de toda familia egipcia!
52 Sacó a Israel como a un rebaño de ovejas;
llevó a su pueblo a través del desierto.
53 Los llevó con paso seguro
para que no tuvieran miedo,
pero a sus enemigos el mar los cubrió.
54 Dios trajo a su pueblo a su tierra santa,
¡a las montañas que él mismo conquistó!
55 Quitó a los paganos de la vista de Israel;
repartió la tierra en lotes entre sus tribus,
y las hizo vivir en sus campamentos.
56 Pero ellos pusieron a prueba al Dios altísimo
rebelándose contra él
y desobedeciendo sus mandatos;
57 pues, lo mismo que sus padres,
lo abandonaron y le fueron infieles;
¡se torcieron igual que un arco falso!
58 Lo hicieron enojar con sus altares paganos;
adorando ídolos, lo provocaron a celos.
59 Dios se enojó al ver esto,
y rechazó por completo a Israel,
60 y abandonó el santuario de Siló,
que era su casa entre los hombres.
61 Permitió que sus enemigos capturaran
el símbolo de su gloria y su poder.
62 Tan furioso estaba contra su pueblo,
que los entregó a la espada del enemigo.
63 Los muchachos murieron quemados;
¡no hubo canción de bodas para las novias!
64 Los sacerdotes murieron a filo de espada,
y sus viudas no los lloraron.
65 Pero despertó el Señor, como de un sueño,
como guerrero que vuelve en sí del vino,
66 y derrotó a sus enemigos, y los hizo huir;
¡los cubrió de vergüenza para siempre!
67 Rechazó además a la casa de José,
y no escogió a la tribu de Efraín;
68 eligió en cambio a la tribu de Judá
y a su amado monte Sión.
69 Construyó un santuario, alto como el cielo,
y lo afirmó para siempre, como a la tierra.
70 Escogió a su siervo David,
el que era pastor de ovejas;
71 lo quitó de andar tras los rebaños,
para que cuidara a su pueblo,
para que fuera pastor de Israel.
72 Y David cuidó del pueblo de Dios;
los cuidó y los dirigió

A maskil[a] of Asaph.
1 My people, hear my teaching;(A)
listen to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth with a parable;(B)
I will utter hidden things, things from of old—
3 things we have heard and known,
things our ancestors have told us.(C)
4 We will not hide them from their descendants;(D)
we will tell the next generation(E)
the praiseworthy deeds(F) of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders(G) he has done.
5 He decreed statutes(H) for Jacob(I)
and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
to teach their children,
6 so the next generation would know them,
even the children yet to be born,(J)
and they in turn would tell their children.
7 Then they would put their trust in God
and would not forget(K) his deeds
but would keep his commands.(L)
8 They would not be like their ancestors(M)—
a stubborn(N) and rebellious(O) generation,
whose hearts were not loyal to God,
whose spirits were not faithful to him.
9 The men of Ephraim, though armed with bows,(P)
turned back on the day of battle;(Q)
10 they did not keep God’s covenant(R)
and refused to live by his law.(S)
11 They forgot what he had done,(T)
the wonders he had shown them.
12 He did miracles(U) in the sight of their ancestors
in the land of Egypt,(V) in the region of Zoan.(W)

14 He guided them with the cloud by day

rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.

19 They spoke against God;(AE)
they said, “Can God really
spread a table in the wilderness?
20 True, he struck the rock,
and water gushed out,(AF)
streams flowed abundantly,
but can he also give us bread?
Can he supply meat(AG) for his people?”
21 When the Lord heard them, he was furious;
his fire broke out(AH) against Jacob,
and his wrath rose against Israel,
22 for they did not believe in God
or trust(AI) in his deliverance.
23 Yet he gave a command to the skies above
and opened the doors of the heavens;(AJ)
24 he rained down manna(AK) for the people to eat,
he gave them the grain of heaven.
25 Human beings ate the bread of angels;
he sent them all the food they could eat.
26 He let loose the east wind(AL) from the heavens
and by his power made the south wind blow.
27 He rained meat down on them like dust,
birds(AM) like sand on the seashore.
28 He made them come down inside their camp,
all around their tents.
29 They ate till they were gorged—(AN)
he had given them what they craved.
30 But before they turned from what they craved,
even while the food was still in their mouths,(AO)
31 God’s anger rose against them;
he put to death the sturdiest(AP) among them,
cutting down the young men of Israel.
32 In spite of all this, they kept on sinning;(AQ)
in spite of his wonders,(AR) they did not believe.(AS)
33 So he ended their days in futility(AT)
and their years in terror.
34 Whenever God slew them, they would seek(AU) him;
they eagerly turned to him again.
35 They remembered that God was their Rock,(AV)
that God Most High was their Redeemer.(AW)
36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths,(AX)
lying to him with their tongues;
37 their hearts were not loyal(AY) to him,
they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Yet he was merciful;(AZ)
he forgave(BA) their iniquities(BB)
and did not destroy them.
Time after time he restrained his anger(BC)
and did not stir up his full wrath.
39 He remembered that they were but flesh,(BD)
a passing breeze(BE) that does not return.
40 How often they rebelled(BF) against him in the wilderness(BG)
and grieved him(BH) in the wasteland!
41 Again and again they put God to the test;(BI)
they vexed the Holy One of Israel.(BJ)
42 They did not remember(BK) his power—
the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,(BL)
43 the day he displayed his signs(BM) in Egypt,
his wonders(BN) in the region of Zoan.
44 He turned their river into blood;(BO)
they could not drink from their streams.
45 He sent swarms of flies(BP) that devoured them,
and frogs(BQ) that devastated them.
46 He gave their crops to the grasshopper,(BR)
their produce to the locust.(BS)
47 He destroyed their vines with hail(BT)
and their sycamore-figs with sleet.
48 He gave over their cattle to the hail,
their livestock(BU) to bolts of lightning.
49 He unleashed against them his hot anger,(BV)
his wrath, indignation and hostility—
a band of destroying angels.(BW)
50 He prepared a path for his anger;
he did not spare them from death
but gave them over to the plague.
51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,(BX)
the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.(BY)
52 But he brought his people out like a flock;(BZ)
he led them like sheep through the wilderness.
53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
but the sea engulfed(CA) their enemies.(CB)
54 And so he brought them to the border of his holy land,
to the hill country his right hand(CC) had taken.
55 He drove out nations(CD) before them
and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;(CE)
he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.
56 But they put God to the test
and rebelled against the Most High;
they did not keep his statutes.
57 Like their ancestors(CF) they were disloyal and faithless,
as unreliable as a faulty bow.(CG)
58 They angered him(CH) with their high places;(CI)
they aroused his jealousy with their idols.(CJ)
59 When God heard(CK) them, he was furious;(CL)
he rejected Israel(CM) completely.
60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,(CN)
the tent he had set up among humans.(CO)
61 He sent the ark of his might(CP) into captivity,(CQ)
his splendor into the hands of the enemy.
62 He gave his people over to the sword;(CR)
he was furious with his inheritance.(CS)
63 Fire consumed(CT) their young men,
and their young women had no wedding songs;(CU)
64 their priests were put to the sword,(CV)
and their widows could not weep.
65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep,(CW)
as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.
66 He beat back his enemies;
he put them to everlasting shame.(CX)
67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph,
he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;(CY)
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,(CZ)
Mount Zion,(DA) which he loved.
69 He built his sanctuary(DB) like the heights,
like the earth that he established forever.
70 He chose David(DC) his servant
and took him from the sheep pens;
71 from tending the sheep(DD) he brought him
to be the shepherd(DE) of his people Jacob,
of Israel his inheritance.
72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;(DF)
with skillful hands he led them.

78 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
9 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
10 They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
11 And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
12 Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
14 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
15 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.
16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
19 Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
20 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
21 Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.
26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:
28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
30 They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,
31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.
32 For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
62 He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
63 The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.
64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
65 Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
66 And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
67 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.
70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
71 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
