约沙法作犹大王(A)
17 亚撒的儿子约沙法接续他作王；约沙法发愤图强，对抗以色列人。 2 他把军队安置在犹大的一切设防城里，又在犹大地和他父亲亚撒占领的以法莲各城里驻扎防军。 3 耶和华和约沙法同在，因为他遵行了他祖先大卫最初所行的道路，没有寻求巴力。 4 只寻求他父亲的 神，遵行 神的诫命，没有随从以色列人的行为。 5 因此，耶和华使他统治的国稳固；犹大各地都给他进贡，所以约沙法的财富很多，极有尊荣。 6 他勇敢地遵行耶和华的道路，并且从犹大地中除掉邱坛和亚舍拉。
以律法训勉人民
7 他作王第三年，就差派他的大臣便．亥伊勒、俄巴底、撒迦利雅、拿坦业、米该亚，到犹大各城去教训人。 8 和他们同去的，还有示玛雅、尼探雅、西巴第雅、亚撒黑、示米拉末、约拿单、亚多尼雅、多比雅和驼．巴多尼雅等几位利未人；又有以利沙玛和约兰两位祭司和他们同去。 9 他们带着耶和华的律法书，在犹大教训人；他们走遍犹大各城，在民间教训人。
约沙法的声威
10 犹大地周围的列国都惧怕耶和华，不敢和约沙法交战。 11 有些非利士人送礼和纳贡银给约沙法；阿拉伯人也送给他公绵羊七千七百只，公山羊七千七百只。 12 约沙法逐渐变得十分强大，在犹大建造了几座堡垒和贮藏货物的城市。 13 他在犹大各城中储备了大批物资；在耶路撒冷也有不少战士，都是英勇的战士。 14 他们的数目，按着他们的家族记在下面：犹大支派的千夫长中，有押拿军长，率领英勇的战士三十万； 15 在押拿底下，是约哈难军长，率领二十八万人； 16 在约哈难底下，是细基利的儿子亚玛斯雅，他是个甘愿献身给耶和华的人，率领英勇的战士二十万。 17 便雅悯支派中有英勇的战士以利雅大，率领配备弓箭和盾牌的人二十万， 18 在以利雅大底下是约萨拔，率领常备军十八万。 19 这些人都是服事王的；还有王在犹大全地各设防城里安置的，没有计算在内。

17 Y reinó en su lugar Josafat su hijo, el cual prevaleció contra Israel.
2 Y puso ejército en todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, y colocó gente de guarnición, en tierra de Judá, y asimismo en las ciudades de Efraín que su padre Asa había tomado.
3 Y estuvo el SEÑOR con Josafat, porque anduvo en los primeros caminos de David su padre, y no buscó a los Baales;
4 sino que buscó al Dios de su padre, y anduvo en sus mandamientos, y no según las obras de Israel.
5 El SEÑOR, por tanto, confirmó el reino en su mano, y todo Judá dio a Josafat presentes; y tuvo riquezas y gloria en abundancia.
6 Y se animó su corazón en los caminos del SEÑOR, y quitó los lugares altos y los bosques de Judá.
7 Al tercer año de su reinado envió sus príncipes Ben-hail, Abdías, Zacarías, Natanael y Micaías, para que enseñaran en las ciudades de Judá;
8 y con ellos a los levitas, Semeías, Netanías, Zebadías, Asael, Semiramot, Jonatán, Adonías, Tobías, y Tobadonías, levitas; y con ellos a Elisama y a Joram, sacerdotes.
9 Y enseñaron en Judá, teniendo consigo el libro de la ley del SEÑOR, y recorrieron por todas las ciudades de Judá enseñando al pueblo.
10 Y cayó el pavor del SEÑOR sobre todos los reinos de las tierras que estaban alrededor de Judá; de manera que no osaron hacer guerra contra Josafat.
11 Y traían de los filisteos presentes a Josafat, y tributos de plata. Los árabes también le trajeron rebaños, siete mil setecientos carneros y siete mil setecientos machos cabríos.
12 Iba, pues, Josafat creciendo altamente; y edificó en Judá castillos y ciudades de depósitos.
13 Y tuvo muchas obras en las ciudades de Judá, y hombres de guerra muy valientes en Jerusalén.
14 Y éste es el número de ellos según las casas de sus padres: En Judá, príncipes de los millares; el príncipe Adna, y con él trescientos mil hombres valientes de valor;
15 después de él, el príncipe Johanán, y con él doscientos ochenta mil;
16 tras éste, Amasías hijo de Zicri, el cual se había ofrecido voluntariamente al SEÑOR, y con él doscientos mil hombres valientes;
17 de Benjamín, Eliada, hombre muy poderoso, y con él doscientos mil hombres armados de arco y escudo;
18 tras éste, Jozabad, y con él ciento ochenta mil apercibidos para la guerra.
19 Estos eran siervos del rey, sin los que el rey había puesto en las ciudades de guarnición por toda Judea.

Jehoshaphat King of Judah
17 Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king and strengthened(A) himself against Israel. 2 He stationed troops in all the fortified cities(B) of Judah and put garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.(C)
3 The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David(D) before him. He did not consult the Baals 4 but sought(E) the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel. 5 The Lord established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts(F) to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor.(G) 6 His heart was devoted(H) to the ways of the Lord; furthermore, he removed the high places(I) and the Asherah poles(J) from Judah.(K)
7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach(L) in the towns of Judah. 8 With them were certain Levites(M)—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah—and the priests Elishama and Jehoram. 9 They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law(N) of the Lord; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.
10 The fear(O) of the Lord fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not go to war against Jehoshaphat. 11 Some Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs(P) brought him flocks:(Q) seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred goats.
12 Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah 13 and had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced fighting men in Jerusalem. 14 Their enrollment(R) by families was as follows:
From Judah, commanders of units of 1,000:
Adnah the commander, with 300,000 fighting men;
15 next, Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;
16 next, Amasiah son of Zikri, who volunteered(S) himself for the service of the Lord, with 200,000.
17 From Benjamin:(T)
Eliada, a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields;
18 next, Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle.
19 These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities(U) throughout Judah.(V)

Jehoshaphat King of Judah
17 Jehoshaphat, Asa’s son, became king of Judah in his place. Jehoshaphat made Judah strong so they could fight against Israel. 2 He put troops in all the strong, walled cities of Judah, in the land of Judah, and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
3 The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he lived as his ancestor David had lived when he first became king. Jehoshaphat did not ask for help from the Baal idols, 4 but from the God of his father. He obeyed God’s commands and did not live as the people of Israel lived. 5 The Lord made Jehoshaphat a strong king over Judah. All the people of Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so he had much wealth and honor. 6 He wanted very much to obey the Lord. He also removed the places for worshiping gods and the Asherah idols from Judah.
7 During the third year of his rule, Jehoshaphat sent his officers to teach in the towns of Judah. These officers were Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah. 8 Jehoshaphat sent with them these Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-Adonijah. He also sent the priests Elishama and Jehoram. 9 These leaders, Levites, and priests taught the people in Judah. They took the Book of the Teachings of the Lord and went through all the towns of Judah and taught the people.
10 The nations near Judah were afraid of the Lord, so they did not start a war against Jehoshaphat. 11 Some of the Philistines brought gifts and silver to Jehoshaphat as he demanded. Some Arabs brought him flocks: seventy-seven hundred sheep and seventy-seven hundred goats.
12 Jehoshaphat grew more and more powerful. He built strong, walled cities and towns for storing supplies in Judah. 13 He kept many supplies in the towns of Judah, and he kept trained soldiers in Jerusalem. 14 These soldiers were listed by families. From the families of Judah, these were the commanders of groups of a thousand men: Adnah was the commander of three hundred thousand soldiers; 15 Jehohanan was the commander of two hundred eighty thousand soldiers; 16 Amasiah was the commander of two hundred thousand soldiers. Amasiah son of Zicri had volunteered to serve the Lord.
17 These were the commanders from the families of Benjamin: Eliada, a brave soldier, had two hundred thousand soldiers who used bows and shields. 18 And Jehozabad had one hundred eighty thousand men armed for war.
19 All these soldiers served King Jehoshaphat. The king also put other men in the strong, walled cities through all of Judah.
