驢認識主人的槽;

從腳掌到頭頂,沒有一處是完全的;

盡是創傷、鞭痕和流血的傷口;

你們的田地,在你們面前給外族人侵吞;

10 你們這些所多瑪的官長啊!要聽耶和華的話;

公綿羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂肪,我已經夠了;

我厭煩月朔、安息日和集會;

14 你們的月朔和制定的節期,我心裡恨惡;

我必掩眼不看你們;

我也不聽;

16 你們要洗滌自己,潔淨自己;

從我眼前除掉你們的惡行;

18 耶和華說:“你們來,我們彼此辯論;

必變成雪白;

就必得吃地上的美物;

與盜賊同夥;

追索私酬;

25 我必把手轉過來攻擊你;

26 我必恢復你的審判官,像起初一樣;

也必恢復你的謀士,像起先一般;

他所作的好像火星;

I. PRIMA PARTE DI ISAIA

1. ORACOLI ANTERIORI ALLA GUERRA SIRO-EFRAIMITA

Titolo

Udite, cieli; ascolta, terra,
perché il Signore dice:
«Ho allevato e fatto crescere figli,
Guai, gente peccatrice,
popolo carico di iniquità!
Razza di scellerati,
figli corrotti!
Hanno abbandonato il Signore,
hanno disprezzato il Santo di Israele,
si sono voltati indietro;
perché volete ancora essere colpiti,
accumulando ribellioni?
e piaghe aperte,
che non sono state ripulite, né fasciate,
né curate con olio.
Il vostro paese è devastato,
le vostre città arse dal fuoco.
La vostra campagna, sotto i vostri occhi,
la divorano gli stranieri;
gia saremmo come Sòdoma,
simili a Gomorra.

Contro l'ipocrisia

10 Udite la parola del Signore,
voi capi di Sòdoma;
e del grasso di giovenchi;
12 Quando venite a presentarvi a me,
chi richiede da voi
che veniate a calpestare i miei atri?
13 Smettete di presentare offerte inutili,
l'incenso è un abominio per me;
noviluni, sabati, assemblee sacre,
non posso sopportare delitto e solennità.
14 I vostri noviluni e le vostre feste
io detesto,
sono per me un peso;
sono stanco di sopportarli.
15 Quando stendete le mani,
io allontano gli occhi da voi.
Anche se moltiplicate le preghiere,
io non ascolto.
Le vostre mani grondano sangue.
16 Lavatevi, purificatevi,
togliete il male delle vostre azioni
dalla mia vista.
Cessate di fare il male,
17 imparate a fare il bene,
ricercate la giustizia,
soccorrete l'oppresso,
rendete giustizia all'orfano,
diventeranno bianchi come neve.
Se fossero rossi come porpora,
diventeranno come lana.
19 Se sarete docili e ascolterete,
mangerete i frutti della terra.
20 Ma se vi ostinate e vi ribellate,
sarete divorati dalla spada,
perché la bocca del Signore ha parlato».

Lamento su Gerusalemme

21 Come mai è diventata una prostituta
la città fedele?
Era piena di rettitudine,
la giustizia vi dimorava;
e complici di ladri;
tutti sono bramosi di regali,
ricercano mance,
non rendono giustizia all'orfano
28 Tutti insieme finiranno in rovina ribelli e peccatori
e periranno quanti hanno abbandonato il Signore.

Contro gli alberi sacri

29 Vi vergognerete delle querce
di cui vi siete compiaciuti,
arrossirete dei giardini
che vi siete scelti,
30 poiché sarete come quercia
dalle foglie avvizzite
e come giardino senza acqua.
31 Il forte diverrà come stoppa,
la sua opera come scintilla;
bruceranno tutte e due insieme
e nessuno le spegnerà.

The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah:

A Nation Sick With Sin

Listen! Heavens, and hear, earth,
    for Adonai has spoken:
“Sons I have raised and brought up,
    but they have rebelled against Me.
The ox knows its owner,
    and the donkey its manger,
but Israel does not know,
    My people do not understand.”

Oy, a sinful nation,
    a people weighed down with iniquity,
offspring of evildoers,
    sons dealing corruptly!
They have abandoned Adonai.
They have despised Israel’s Holy One.
They have turned backwards.
Where will you be struck again,
    as you stray away more and more?
The whole head is sick,
    the whole heart faint.
From the foot to the head
    there is no soundness.
Wounds, bruises and raw sores:
    not pressed, nor bandaged,
    nor softened with oil.
Your land is desolate;
your cities are burned with fire;
your fields,
    strangers devour it in your presence—
    a desolation,
    overthrown by strangers.
So the Daughter of Zion is left
    as a sukkah in a vineyard,
as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers,
    as a besieged city.
Unless Adonai-Tzva’ot
    had left us a small remnant,[a]
we would have been as Sodom,
    we would have been as Gomorrah.
10 Hear the word of Adonai,
    you rulers of Sodom!
Give ear to the Torah of our God,
    you people of Gomorrah!

Worthless Offerings

11 “For what is it to Me—the multitude of your sacrifices?”
    says Adonai.
“I am full of burnt offerings of rams
    and fat of fed animals.
I have no delight in the blood of bulls,
    or of lambs or he-goats.
12 When you come to appear before Me,
    who has required this at your hand—
    trampling My courts?
13 Bring no more worthless offerings!
    Incense is an abomination to Me.
New Moon and Shabbat, the calling of convocations
    —I cannot endure it—
iniquity with solemn assembly.
14 Your New Moons and your Festivals
    My soul hates!
They are a burden to Me.
    I am weary to bear them.
15 When you spread out your hands,
    I will hide My eyes from you.
When you multiply prayers,
    I will not hear.
Your hands are full of blood!”

Scarlet Sins as Snow

16 “Wash and make yourselves clean.
Put away the evil of your deeds
    from before My eyes.
Cease to do evil.
17 Learn to do good,
    seek justice, relieve the oppressed,
defend the orphan,
    plead for the widow.”

18 “Come now, let us reason together,”
    says Adonai.
“Though your sins be like scarlet,
    they will be as white as snow.
Though they be red like crimson,
    they will become like wool.
19 If you are willing and obey,
    you will eat the good of the land.
20 But if you refuse and rebel,
    you will be devoured with the sword.”
For the mouth of Adonai has spoken.

Restore the Faithful City

21 How the Faithful City became a harlot!
She once was full of justice,
    righteousness lodged in her—
    but now murderers!
22 Your silver has become dross,
    your wine diluted by water.
23 Your princes are rebellious
    and friends with thieves.
Everyone loves a bribe
    and chases after rewards.
They do not defend the orphan,
nor does a widow’s case come to them.

24 Therefore says the Lord Adonai-Tzva’ot,
    the Mighty One of Israel:
Oy! I will get relief from My foes
    and avenge Myself on My enemies.
25 Then I will turn My hand on you,
    purge away your dross,
    and remove all your alloy.
26 I will restore your judges as at first,
    your counselors as at the start.
Afterward you will be called
    City of Righteousness, Faithful City.
27 Zion will be redeemed with justice,
    her repentant with righteousness.”

28 But there will be a crushing of transgressors and sinners together.
Forsaking Adonai, they will be consumed.
29 For they will be ashamed of the sacred oaks
    that you desired,
and embarrassed because of the gardens
    that you have chosen.

30 For you will be like an oak of withering leaf,
    like a garden that has no water.
31 So the strong will become tinder
    and his work like a spark—
both will burn together,
    and no one will quench them.
