10 (A)И взе Самуил съд с елей, изля върху главата му, целуна го и рече: ето, Господ те помаза за цар на Своето наследие (в Израиля, и ти ще царуваш над народа Господен и ще ги избавиш от ръцете на околните им врагове, и ето ти личба, че Господ те е помазал за цар на Своето наследие):
2 (B)кога си тръгнеш сега от мене, ще срещнеш двама човеци близо до Рахилиния гроб, във Вениаминовите предели, в Целцах, и те ще ти кажат: намериха се ослиците, които ходи да търсиш, и ето, баща ти, като забрави ослиците, безпокои се за вас, думайки: какво стана със сина ми?
3 (C)Оттам ще отидеш по-нататък и ще дойдеш при Таворска дъбрава, и там ще те срещнат трима човека, които отиват при Бога във Ветил: единият носи три ярета, другият носи три хляба, а третият носи мях с вино;
4 и те ще те поздравят и ще ти дадат двата хляба, и ти ще ги вземеш от ръцете им.
5 (D)След това ще дойдеш на Божия хълм, дето е филистимската стража (там са филистимските началници); и кога влезеш там в града, ще срещнеш лик пророци, които слизат от хълма, и пред тях псалтир и тимпан, пищялка и гусла, и те пророчествуват;
6 и Дух Господен ще слезе върху тебе, и ти ще пророчествуваш заедно с тях и ще станеш друг човек.
7 Когато тия личби се сбъднат с тебе, тогава прави, каквото може ръката ти, защото с тебе е Бог.
8 (E)Иди пред мене в Галгал, където и аз ще дойда при тебе, за да принеса всесъжения и мирни жертви; седем дена чакай, докле дойда при тебе, и тогава ще ти посоча, какво да правиш.
9 Щом Саул се обърна, за да си отиде от Самуила, Бог му даде друго сърце, и всички ония личби се сбъднаха в същия ден.
10 (F)Когато дойдоха до хълма, ето че ги среща лик пророци, и Дух Божий слезе върху него, и той пророчествуваше между тях.
11 (G)Всички, които го познаваха вчера и завчера, като видяха, че той пророчествува с пророците, к азваха си един другиму: какво е станало с Кисовия син? Нима и Саул е между пророците?
12 И един от ония, които бяха там, отговори и рече: а кой е техният баща? Затова излезе поговорка: нима и Саул е между пророците?
13 И той престана да пророчествува и отиде на хълма.
14 И Сауловият чичо попита него и слугата му: къде сте ходили? Той отговори: да търсим ослиците, но, като видяхме, че ги няма, отбихме се при Самуила.
15 И Сауловият чичо рече: разкажи ми какво ви каза Самуил.
16 И Саул каза на чича си: той ни обади, че ослиците се намерили. А това, което Самуил му каза за царството, не му обади.
17 (H)И Самуил свика народа при Господа в Масифа,
18 и рече на синовете Израилеви: тъй говори Господ, Бог Израилев: Аз изведох Израиля из Египет и ви избавих от ръцете на египтяни и от ръцете на всички царства, които ви притесняваха.
19 (I)А вие сега отхвърлихте вашия Бог, Който ви спасява от всички ваши неволи и тъги, и Му рекохте: постави ни цар. И тъй, застанете сега пред Господа според колената си и според племената си.
20 И заповяда Самуил да минават всички колена Израилеви, и посочено бе с жребие Вениаминовото коляно.
21 (J)И заповяда на Вениаминовото коляно да минава според племената си, и посочено бе ше Матриевото племе; и довеждат Матриевото племе по мъже, и посочен беше Саул, Кисов син; и търсиха го, ала го не намериха.
22 И пак попитаха Господа: ще дойде ли той тук? И Господ отговори: ето, той се крие в колите.
23 (K)Затекоха се и го взеха оттам; той застана сред народа, и от рамената си нагоре беше по-висок от всички.
24 (L)И Самуил рече на целия народ: виждате ли, кого е избрал Господ? Като него няма в целия народ. Тогава целият народ извика и рече: да живее царят!
25 (M)И Самуил изложи на народа правата на царството, написа ги в книга, и сложи пред Господа. И разпусна целия народ, всекиго у дома му.
26 (N)Също и Саул си отиде вкъщи, в Гива; и с него отидоха храбрите, до чието сърце се бе докоснал Бог.
27 (O)А негодниците казваха: та той ли ще ни спаси? И го презряха и му не поднесоха дарове. Но той като че не забелязваше това.

Samuel Anoints Saul
10 Then (A)Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, (B)and kissed him and said: “Is it not because (C)the Lord has anointed you commander over (D)His [a]inheritance? 2 When you have departed from me today, you will find two men by (E)Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin (F)at Zelzah; and they will say to you, ‘The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. And now your father has ceased caring about the donkeys and is worrying about (G)you, saying, “What shall I do about my son?” ’ 3 Then you shall go on forward from there and come to the terebinth tree of Tabor. There three men going up (H)to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine. 4 And they will [b]greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive from their hands. 5 After that you shall come to the hill of God (I)where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down (J)from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; (K)and they will be prophesying. 6 Then (L)the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and (M)you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. 7 And let it be, when these (N)signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for (O)God is with you. 8 You shall go down before me (P)to Gilgal; and surely I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. (Q)Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do.”
9 So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God [c]gave him another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day. 10 (R)When they came there to the hill, there was (S)a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them. 11 And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another, “What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? (T)Is Saul also among the prophets?” 12 Then a man from there answered and said, “But (U)who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb: “Is Saul also among the prophets?” 13 And when he had finished prophesying, he went to the high place.
14 Then Saul’s (V)uncle said to him and his servant, “Where did you go?”
So he said, “To look for the donkeys. When we saw that they were nowhere to be found, we went to Samuel.”
15 And Saul’s uncle said, “Tell me, please, what Samuel said to you.”
16 So Saul said to his uncle, “He told us plainly that the donkeys had been (W)found.” But about the matter of the kingdom, he did not tell him what Samuel had said.
Saul Proclaimed King
17 Then Samuel called the people together (X)to the Lord (Y)at Mizpah, 18 and said to the children of Israel, (Z)“Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all kingdoms and from those who oppressed you.’ 19 (AA)But you have today rejected your God, who Himself saved you from all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to Him, ‘No, set a king over us!’ Now therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your [d]clans.”
20 And when Samuel had (AB)caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. 21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was chosen. And Saul the son of Kish was chosen. But when they sought him, he could not be found. 22 Therefore they (AC)inquired of the Lord further, “Has the man come here yet?”
And the Lord answered, “There he is, hidden among the equipment.”
23 So they ran and brought him from there; and when he stood among the people, (AD)he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward. 24 And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him (AE)whom the Lord has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?”
So all the people shouted and said, (AF)“Long[e] live the king!”
25 Then Samuel explained to the people (AG)the behavior of royalty, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house. 26 And Saul also went home (AH)to Gibeah; and valiant men went with him, whose hearts God had touched. 27 (AI)But some (AJ)rebels said, “How can this man save us?” So they despised him, (AK)and brought him no presents. But he [f]held his peace.

10 Tomó entonces Samuel la redoma de aceite, la derramó sobre la cabeza de Saúl[a](A), lo besó(B) y le dijo: ¿No te ha ungido el Señor(C) por príncipe sobre su heredad(D)? 2 Cuando te apartes hoy de mí, hallarás a dos hombres cerca del sepulcro de Raquel(E), en el territorio de Benjamín, en Selsa, y te dirán: «Las asnas que fuiste a buscar han sido halladas. Y he aquí, tu padre ha dejado de preocuparse por[b] las asnas(F) y está angustiado por vosotros, diciendo: “¿Qué haré en cuanto a mi hijo?”». 3 De allí seguirás más adelante, llegarás hasta la encina[c] de Tabor(G), y allí te encontrarás con tres hombres que suben a Dios en Betel(H), uno llevando tres cabritos, otro llevando tres tortas de pan y otro llevando un odre de vino; 4 ellos te saludarán y te darán dos tortas de pan, las cuales recibirás[d] de sus manos. 5 Después llegarás a la colina de Dios[e](I) donde está la guarnición de los filisteos; y sucederá que cuando llegues a la ciudad, allá encontrarás a un grupo de profetas(J) que descienden del lugar alto con arpa, pandero, flauta y lira delante de ellos, y estarán profetizando(K). 6 Entonces el Espíritu del Señor vendrá sobre ti con gran poder(L), profetizarás con ellos(M) y serás cambiado en otro hombre. 7 Cuando estas señales te hayan sucedido, haz lo que la situación requiera[f](N), porque Dios está contigo(O). 8 Descenderás delante de mí a Gilgal(P), y he aquí, yo descenderé a ti para ofrecer holocaustos y sacrificar ofrendas de paz(Q). Esperarás siete días hasta que venga a ti y te muestre lo que debes hacer(R).
9 Y sucedió que cuando él volvió la espalda para dejar a Samuel, Dios le cambió el[g] corazón(S), y todas aquellas señales le acontecieron en aquel día. 10 Cuando llegaron allá a la colina[h], he aquí, un grupo de profetas salió a su encuentro; y el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con gran poder, y profetizó entre ellos(T). 11 Y sucedió que cuando todos los que le conocían de antes vieron que ahora profetizaba con los profetas, los del pueblo se decían unos a otros: ¿Qué le ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Está Saúl también entre los profetas(U)? 12 Y un hombre de allí respondió, y dijo: ¿Y quién es el padre de ellos? Por lo cual esto se hizo proverbio: ¿Está Saúl también entre los profetas(V)? 13 Cuando acabó de profetizar vino al lugar alto.
14 Y un tío de Saúl(W) le dijo a él y a su criado: ¿Adónde fuisteis? Y él respondió: A buscar las asnas(X). Cuando vimos que no aparecían, fuimos a Samuel. 15 Y el tío de Saúl dijo: Te ruego que me cuentes qué os dijo Samuel. 16 Y Saúl respondió a su tío: Nos hizo saber claramente que las asnas habían sido halladas(Y). Pero Saúl no le contó acerca del asunto del reino que Samuel le había mencionado.
17 Después Samuel convocó al pueblo delante del Señor en Mizpa(Z); 18 y dijo a los hijos de Israel: Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: «Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y os libré del poder[i] de los egipcios y del poder[j] de todos los reinos que os oprimían(AA)». 19 Pero vosotros habéis rechazado hoy a vuestro Dios, que os libra de todas vuestras calamidades y vuestras angustias(AB), y habéis dicho: «No, sino[k] pon un rey sobre nosotros». Ahora pues, presentaos delante del Señor por vuestras tribus y por vuestras familias[l](AC). 20 Samuel hizo que se acercaran todas las tribus de Israel, y fue escogida por sorteo la tribu de Benjamín. 21 Entonces hizo que se acercara la tribu de Benjamín por sus familias, y fue escogida la familia de Matri. Y Saúl, hijo de Cis, fue escogido; pero cuando lo buscaron no lo pudieron hallar. 22 Volvieron, pues, a inquirir del Señor(AD): ¿Ha llegado ya el hombre aquí? Y el Señor respondió: «He aquí, está escondido junto al bagaje». 23 Corrieron y lo trajeron de allí, y cuando estuvo en medio del pueblo, de los hombros arriba(AE) sobrepasaba a todo el pueblo. 24 Y Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: ¿Veis al que el Señor ha escogido(AF)? En verdad que no hay otro como él entre todo el pueblo. Entonces todo el pueblo gritó, y dijo: ¡Viva el rey(AG)! 25 Entonces Samuel dio[m] al pueblo las ordenanzas del reino(AH), y las escribió en el libro, el cual puso delante del Señor(AI). Y despidió Samuel a todo el pueblo, cada uno a su casa. 26 También Saúl se fue a su casa en Guibeá(AJ), y con él fueron los valientes cuyos corazones Dios había tocado. 27 Pero ciertos hombres indignos[n](AK) dijeron: ¿Cómo puede este salvarnos? Y lo menospreciaron y no le trajeron presente alguno(AL). Mas él guardó silencio.
