Давид отново пощадява Саул
26 (A)Давид избяга, спаси се, отиде при Самуил в Рама и му съобщи всичко, което Саул извърши с него. Той и Самуил тръгнаха и се установиха в Нават. 2 Тогава Саул стана, спусна се в пустинята Зиф, за да търси Давид в пустинята, и с него бяха три хиляди отбрани мъже от Израил. 3 И Саул се разположи на лагер на хълма Хахил по пътя срещу Йесимон. Но Давид се намираше в пустинята и видя, че Саул идва след него в пустинята. 4 Тогава Давид изпрати съгледвачи и се увери, че Саул е пристигнал[a]. 5 Давид стана[b] и отиде на мястото, където Саул лагеруваше. И Давид видя мястото, на което спяха Саул и военачалникът му Авенир, син на Нир. Саул спеше в средата на лагера, а войниците се бяха разположили край него наоколо.
6 (B)Тогава Давид се обърна и попита хета Ахимелех и Авеса, сина на Саруя, брат на Йоав: „Кой ще дойде с мене при Саул в лагера?“ Авеса отговори: „Аз ще дойда с тебе.“ 7 Давид отиде с Авеса при хората на Саул през нощта. И ето Саул спи в средата и копието му е забито в земята при главата му, а Авенир и хората спят около него. 8 Тогава Авеса каза на Давид: „Днес Бог предаде твоя враг в ръцете ти. Затова сега остави ме, ще го прикова в земята с един удар на копието. Няма нужда от втори!“ 9 (C)Но Давид каза на Авеса: „Не го убивай! Защото кой, който е вдигнал ръката си срещу помазаник, ще остане ненаказан?“ 10 Давид каза още: „Жив е Господ! Нека Господ го порази. Или неговият ден ще дойде и той ще умре, или ще отиде на война и ще загине. А на мене да не ми дава Господ да вдигна ръка срещу помазаника на Господа. 11 Така че сега вземи копието му, което е при главата му, и стомната с вода и да си вървим!“ 12 Така Давид взе копието и стомната с вода при главата на Саул и си отидоха. И никой не видя, и никой не узна, и никой не се събуди, а всички спяха, понеже Господ спусна дълбок сън върху тях.
13 Тогава Давид премина на отсрещната страна и застана на върха на планината надалеч, а между тях имаше голямо разстояние. 14 И Давид викна към хората и към Авенир, син на Нир, казвайки: „Авенире, обади се.“ Тогава Авенир отговори: „Кой си ти, който викаш към мене?“ 15 Давид отвърна на Авенир: „Не си ли ти мъжът, на когото няма равен в Израил? А защо не пазиш господаря си, царя? В лагера дойде един човек да погуби царя, твоя господар. 16 Това, което направи, не е добро. Жив е Господ! Вие заслужавате смърт, понеже не опазихте господаря си, помазаника на Господа. А сега, виж къде са копието на царя и стомната с вода, които бяха при главата му?“
17 Тогава Саул позна гласа на Давид и попита: „Това не е ли твоят глас, сине мой Давид?“ А Давид отвърна: „Моят глас е, господарю мой, царю.“ 18 И запита още: „Защо господарят ми преследва своя слуга? Какво сторих и какво зло намери у мене? 19 А сега моят господар, царят, нека изслуша думите на своя слуга: ако Господ те е подбудил против мене, нека това Му бъде благоуханна жертва. Ако пък подбудители са били човешките синове, проклети да са пред Господа, понеже ме прогониха, така че сега нямам дял в наследството на Господа, казвайки: ‘Иди да служиш на други богове!’ 20 И сега нека моята кръв да не се пролее на земята пред Господа, защото израилският цар е потеглил да търси една бълха, както се тича след яребица по планините.“
21 А Саул каза: „Съгреших. Върни се, Давиде, сине мой, защото няма вече да ти сторя зло, понеже днес моят живот беше скъп в очите ти. Ето безумно постъпвах и твърде много съгреших.“ 22 Тогава Давид отговори: „Ето копието на царя. Нека дойде един от слугите и да го вземе. 23 И нека Господ да въздаде на всеки според справедливостта му и според верността му, защото днес Господ те предаде в ръцете ми, но не исках да вдигна ръка върху помазаника на Господа. 24 И нека както днес твоят живот беше скъпоценен в моите очи, така да се цени и моят живот в очите на Господа и Той да ме защити и да ме избави от всяка беда.“ 25 (D)Тогава Саул каза на Давид: „Благословен да си ти, сине мой Давид. Ти сигурно ще извършиш, каквото си предприел, и ще победиш непременно.“ И Давид потегли по своя път, а Саул се върна на постоянното си място.

26 (A)При Саула в Гива дойдоха зифци (от юг) и рекоха: ето, Давид се крие у нас на хълм Хахил, надясно от Иесимон.
2 Тогава Саул стана, спусна се в пустинята Зиф, и с него три хиляди отбор мъже израилски, да търси Давида в пустинята Зиф.
3 И Саул се разположи на хълма Хахил, надясно от Иесимон, до пътя; а Давид, който се намираше в пустинята, видя, че Саул идеше подире му в пустинята;
4 и Давид прати съгледвачи и узна, че Саул наистина е дошъл от Кеил.
5 (B)И стана Давид (тайно) и отиде на мястото, дето Саул се бе разположил на стан, и видя Давид мястото, дето спеше Саул и военачалникът му Авенир, син Ниров. Саул спеше в шатрата, а народът се бе разположил около него.
6 Давид се обърна и рече на хетееца Ахимелеха и на Авеса, син на Саруя, Иоавов брат, като каза: кой ще дойде с мене при Саула в стана? Авеса отговори: аз ще дойда с тебе.
7 (C)Давид дойде с Авеса при людете (Саулови) нощя; и ето, Саул лежи заспал в шатрата, и копието му забито в земята при възглавието му; а Авенир и народът лежат около него.
8 Авеса рече на Давида: днес Бог предаде твоя враг в ръцете ти; затова позволи, аз ще го прикова с копие в земята с един замах и няма да повторя удара.
9 (D)Но Давид рече на Авеса: не го убивай; защото кой, дигнал ръка върху помазаника Господен, ще остане ненаказан?
10 (E)Давид още рече: жив Господ! нека го порази Господ, или ще дойде денят му, и той ще умре, или ще отиде на война и ще загине; а мене да не дава Господ да дигна ръка върху помазаника Господен;
11 (F)а вземи копието му, което е при възглавието му, и съда с вода, и да си вървим.
12 Давид взе копието и съда с вода при възглавието на Саула, и си отидоха; и никой не видя, никой не узна и никой се не събуди, а всички спяха, понеже беше ги обвзел сън от Господа.
13 Премина Давид отвъд и застана навръх планината надалеч, а помежду им имаше голямо разстояние.
14 И викна Давид към народа и Авенира, син Ниров, думайки: Авенире, обади се. Авенир се обади и рече: кой си ти, дето викаш и безпокоиш царя?
15 (G)И Давид рече на Авенира: нали си мъж, и кой е равен на тебе в Израиля? Защо тогава не пазиш господаря си, царя? защото дохожда някой от народа да затрие царя, твоя господар.
16 (H)Ти лошо правиш; жив Господ! Вие заслужавате смърт, задето не пазите господаря си, помазаника Господен. Виж, де е копието на царя и съда с вода, що бяха при възглавието му?
17 (I)И Саул позна гласа на Давида и рече: твоят ли е тоя глас, сине мой Давиде? И рече Давид: моят глас е, господарю мой, царю.
18 (J)И рече о ще: за какво господарят ми преследва своя раб? Какво съм сторил? Какво зло намери у мене?
19 (K)А сега моят господар и цар нека изслуша думите на своя раб: ако Господ те е подбудил против мене, нека това бъде от тебе благовонна жертва; ако пък – синове човешки, то проклети да са пред Господа, понеже те ме изгониха сега, за да не принадлежа към наследието Господне, думайки: иди служи на чужди богове.
20 (L)Нека се не пролее моята кръв на земята пред Господа, защото царят Израилев излезе да търси една бълха, както тичат подир яребица по планините.
21 (M)И Саул каза: аз съгреших; върни се, сине мой Давиде, защото няма вече да ти правя зло, понеже днес душата ми беше скъпа в твоите очи; безумно постъпвах аз и твърде много съгреших.
22 Давид отговори и рече: ето копието на царя; нека дойде един момък и го вземе;
23 (N)и нека Господ въздаде всекиму според правдата му и според истината му, защото Господ те предаваше в ръцете ми, но аз не поисках да вдигна ръка върху помазаника Господен;
24 и нека, както днес бе драгоценен животът ти в мои очи, тъй да се цени и моят живот в очите на Господа, (и Той да ме закрили) и да ме избави от всяка беда!
25 И Саул рече на Давида: благословен да си, сине мой Давиде; ти ще извършиш, каквото си предприел, и непременно ще победиш. И Давид отиде в своя път, а Саул се върна на мястото си.

26 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?
2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.
5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.
6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.
8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.
9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless?
10 David said furthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.
11 The Lord forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.
12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the Lord was fallen upon them.
13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:
14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?
15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the Lord liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the Lord's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.
17 And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.
18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?
19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the Lord have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the Lord; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go, serve other gods.
20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.
21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
22 And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
23 The Lord render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed.
24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the Lord, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.
25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

David Spares Saul a Second Time
26 Now the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, (A)“Is David not hiding in the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?” 2 Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having (B)three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph. 3 And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is opposite Jeshimon, by the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. 4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had indeed come.
5 So David arose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, and (C)Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Now Saul lay within the camp, with the people encamped all around him. 6 Then David answered, and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai (D)the son of Zeruiah, brother of (E)Joab, saying, “Who will (F)go down with me to Saul in the camp?”
And (G)Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night; and there Saul lay sleeping within the camp, with his spear stuck in the ground by his head. And Abner and the people lay all around him. 8 Then Abishai said to David, (H)“God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, please, let me strike him [a]at once with the spear, right to the earth; and I will not have to strike him a second time!”
9 But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; (I)for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?” 10 David said furthermore, “As the Lord lives, (J)the Lord shall strike him, or (K)his day shall come to die, or he shall (L)go out to battle and perish. 11 (M)The Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. But please, take now the spear and the jug of water that are by his head, and let us go.” 12 So David took the spear and the jug of water by Saul’s head, and they got away; and no man saw or knew it or awoke. For they were all asleep, because (N)a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.
13 Now David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great distance being between them. 14 And David called out to the people and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Do you not answer, Abner?”
Then Abner answered and said, “Who are you, calling out to the king?”
15 So David said to Abner, “Are you not a man? And who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not guarded your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king. 16 This thing that you have done is not good. As the Lord lives, you deserve to die, because you have not guarded your master, the Lord’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the jug of water that was by his head.”
17 Then Saul knew David’s voice, and said, (O)“Is that your voice, my son David?”
David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.” 18 And he said, (P)“Why does my lord thus pursue his servant? For what have I done, or what evil is in my hand? 19 Now therefore, please, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the Lord has (Q)stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, (R)for they have driven me out this day from sharing in the (S)inheritance of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’ 20 So now, do not let my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord. For the king of Israel has come out to seek (T)a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”
21 Then Saul said, (U)“I have sinned. Return, my son David. For I will harm you no more, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Indeed I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.”
22 And David answered and said, “Here is the king’s spear. Let one of the young men come over and get it. 23 (V)May the Lord (W)repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. 24 And indeed, as your life was valued much this day in my eyes, so let my life be valued much in the eyes of the Lord, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.”
25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still (X)prevail.”
So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
