Призоваване на дванадесетте ученици

10 (A)И като повика дванадесетте Си ученици, даде им власт над нечистите духове – да ги изгонват и да изцеляват всякаква болест и всякаква немощ.

(B)А ето имената на дванадесетте апостоли: първият – Симон, който се нарича Петър, и Андрей, неговият брат; Яков Зеведеев и Йоан, неговият брат;

Филип и Вартоломей; Тома и Матей бирникът; Яков Алфеев и Тадей;

(C)Симон Ханаанец[a] и Юда Искариотски, който Го предаде.

(D)Тези дванадесет души Исус изпрати и им заповяда: Не отивайте при езичниците и в самарянски град не влизайте;

(E)но по-добре вървете при изгубените овце от Израилевия дом.

(F)И като отивате, проповядвайте, като казвате: Небесното царство наближи.

(G)Болни изцелявайте, мъртви възкресявайте, прокажени очиствайте, бесове изгонвайте; даром сте приели, даром давайте.

(H)Не вземайте нито злато, нито сребро, нито медна монета в пояса си,

10 (I)нито торба за път, нито две ризи, нито обувки, нито тояга; защото работникът заслужава своята прехрана.

11 (J)И в който и да било град или село, като влезете, разпитвайте кой в него е достоен и там оставайте, докато си отидете.

12 Когато влизате в дома, поздравявайте хората в него.

13 (K)И ако домът бъде достоен, нека дойде в него вашият мир; но ако не бъде достоен, мирът ви нека се върне към вас.

14 (L)И ако някой не ви приеме, нито послуша думите ви, когато излизате от дома му или от онзи град, отърсете праха от краката си.

15 (M)Истина ви казвам: По-леко ще бъде наказанието на содомската и гоморската земя в деня на съда, отколкото на онзи град.

16 (N)Ето, Аз ви изпращам като овце между вълци; и така, бъдете разумни като змиите и незлобливи като гълъбите.

17 (O)И се пазете от човеците, защото ще ви предават на съдилища и в синагогите си ще ви бият.

18 (P)Да! И пред управители и царе ще ви извеждат заради Мене, за да свидетелствате на тях и на народите.

19 (Q)А когато ви предадат, не се безпокойте как или какво да говорите, защото в същия час ще ви се даде какво да говорите.

20 Защото не сте вие, които говорите, но Духът на вашия Отец, Който говори чрез вас.

21 Брат брата ще предаде на смърт и баща – детето; и деца ще се надигнат против родителите си и ще ги умъртвят.

22 Ще бъдете мразени от всички заради Моето име; а който устои докрай, той ще бъде спасен.

23 (R)А когато ви гонят от този град, бягайте в другия; защото истина ви казвам: Няма да обходите докрай Израилевите градове, докато дойде Човешкият Син.

24 (S)Ученикът не е по-горен от учителя си, нито слугата е по-горен от господаря си.

25 (T)Достатъчно е за ученика да бъде като учителя си и за слугата – като господаря си. Ако стопанина на дома нарекоха Веелзевул[b], то колко повече домашните му!

26 (U)И така, не се бойте от тях, защото няма нищо покрито, което да не се открие, и нищо тайно, което да не се узнае.

27 Това, което ви говоря в тъмно, кажете го на светло; и което чуете на ухо, прогласете го от покрива.

28 (V)Не се бойте от онези, които убиват тялото, а душата не могат да убият; но по-скоро се бойте от онзи, който може и душа, и тяло да погуби в пъкъла.

29 Не се ли продават две врабчета за един асарий? И пак нито едно от тях няма да падне на земята без волята на вашия Отец.

31 Затова, не бойте се, вие сте много по-ценни от врабчетата.

32 (X)И така, всеки, който изповяда Мене пред човеците, ще го изповядам и Аз пред Моя Отец, Който е на небесата.

33 (Y)Но всеки, който се отрече от Мене пред човеците, ще се отрека и Аз от него пред Моя Отец, Който е на небесата.

34 (Z)Да не мислите, че дойдох да донеса мир на земята; не дойдох да донеса мир, а меч.

35 (AA)Защото дойдох да настроя човек против баща му, дъщеря против майка и снаха против свекърва;

36 (AB)и неприятели на човека ще бъдат домашните му.

37 (AC)Който обича баща или майка повече от Мене, не е достоен за Мен; и който обича син или дъщеря повече от Мене, не е достоен за Мен;

38 (AD)и който не вземе кръста си и не върви след Мене, не е достоен за Мене.

39 (AE)Който намери живота си, ще го изгуби; и който изгуби живота си заради Мене, ще го намери.

40 (AF)Който приема вас, Мене приема; и който приема Мене, приема Този, Който Ме е пратил.

41 (AG)Който приема пророк в името на пророк, награда на пророк ще получи; и който приема праведник в името на праведник, награда на праведник ще получи.

42 (AH)И който напои един от тези, малките, само с чаша студена вода, в името на ученик, истина ви казвам, никак няма да изгуби наградата си.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)

10 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits(F) and to heal every disease and sickness.(G)

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.(H)

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.(I) Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.(J) As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven(K) has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts(L) 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.(M) 11 Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting.(N) 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.(O) 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah(P) on the day of judgment(Q) than for that town.(R)

16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves.(S) Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.(T) 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils(U) and be flogged in the synagogues.(V) 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings(W) as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it.(X) At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father(Y) speaking through you.

21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents(Z) and have them put to death.(AA) 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me,(AB) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(AC) 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.(AD)

24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.(AE) 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul,(AF) how much more the members of his household!

26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.(AG) 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One(AH) who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[b] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.(AI) 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.(AJ)

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others,(AK) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.(AL)

34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law(AM)
36     a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c](AN)

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.(AO) 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.(AP) 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.(AQ)

40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me,(AR) and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(AS) 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”(AT)

(G)These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of (H)the Samaritans, (I)but go rather to (J)the lost sheep of (K)the house of Israel. And proclaim as you go, saying, (L)‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’[c] (M)Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers,[d] cast out demons. (N)You received without paying; give without pay. (O)Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, 10 no bag for your journey, or two tunics[e] or sandals or a staff, for (P)the laborer deserves his food. 11 And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. 12 As you enter the house, (Q)greet it. 13 And if the house is (R)worthy, let (S)your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let (T)your peace return to you. 14 And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, (U)shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. 15 Truly, I say to you, (V)it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for (W)the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

Persecution Will Come

16 (X)“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be (Y)wise as serpents and (Z)innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for (AA)they will deliver you over to courts and flog you (AB)in their synagogues, 18 (AC)and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, (AD)to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. 19 (AE)When (AF)they deliver you over, (AG)do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for (AH)what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 (AI)For it is not you who speak, but (AJ)the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 (AK)Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 (AL)and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. (AM)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they (AN)persecute you in one town, (AO)flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel (AP)before the Son of Man comes.

24 (AQ)“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant[f] above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. (AR)If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign[g] those of his household.

Have No Fear

26 “So have no fear of them, (AS)for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on (AT)the housetops. 28 And (AU)do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him (AV)who can destroy both soul and body in hell.[h] 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?[i] And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But (AW)even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; (AX)you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 (AY)So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but (AZ)whoever denies me before men, (BA)I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Not Peace, but a Sword

34 (BB)“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. (BC)I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 (BD)For I have come (BE)to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 (BF)And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 (BG)Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And (BH)whoever does not take his cross and (BI)follow me is not worthy of me. 39 (BJ)Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Rewards

40 (BK)“Whoever receives you receives me, and (BL)whoever receives me receives him who sent me. 41 (BM)The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. 42 And (BN)whoever gives one of (BO)these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
