14 А след два дни щеше да бъде пасхата и празника на безквасните хлябове; и главните свещеници и книжници търсеха случай да Го уловят с хитрост и да Го умъртвят.
2 Защото думаха: Да не стане на празника, за да се не подигне вълнение между народа.
3 И когато Той беше във Витания, и седеше на трапезата в къщата на Симона прокажения, дойде една жена, която имаше алавастрен съд с миро от чист и скъпоценен нард; и като счупи съда, изля мирото на главата Му.
4 А имаше някои, които, негодуващи, думаха помежду си: Защо така се прахоса мирото?
5 защото това миро можеше да се продаде за повече от триста пеняза, и сумата да се раздаде на сиромасите. И роптаеха против нея.
6 Но Исус рече: Оставете я; защо й досаждате? Тя извърши добро дело на Мене.
7 Защото сиромасите всякога се намират между вас, и когато щете можете да им сторите добро; но Аз не се намирам всякога между вас.
8 Тя извърши това, което можеше; предвари да помаже тялото Ми за погребение.
9 Истина ви казвам: Гдето и да се проповядва благовестието по целия свят, ще се разказва за неин спомен и за това, което тя стори.
10 Тогава Юда Искариотски, оня, който бе един от дванадесетте, отиде при главните свещеници за да им Го предаде.
11 Те, като чуха, зарадваха се, и се обещаха да му дадат пари. И той търсеше сгоден случай да Го предаде.
12 А на първия ден на празника на безквасните хлябове, когато колеха жертви за пасхата, учениците Му казаха: Где искаш да отидем и приготвим за да ядеш пасхата?
13 И Той изпраща двама от учениците Си и казва им: Идете в града; и ще ви срещне човек, който носи стомна с вода; вървете подир него.
14 И дето влезе, речете на стопанина тая къща: Учителят казва: Где е приготвената за Мене приемна стая, гдето ще ям пасхата с учениците Си?
15 И той ще ви посочи една голяма горна стая, постлана и готова; там ни пригответе.
16 И тъй, учениците излязоха и дойдоха в града; и намериха както им беше казал; и приготвиха пасхата.
17 И като се свечери, Той дохожда с дванадесетте.
18 И когато седяха на трапезата и ядяха, Исус рече: Истина ви казвам: Един от вас, които яде с Мене, ще Ме предаде.
19 Те почнаха да скърбят и да Му казват един по един: Да не съм аз?
20 А той им рече: Един от дванадесетте е, който топи заедно с Мене в блюдото.
21 Защото Човешкият Син отива, както е писано за Него; но горко на този човек, чрез когото Човешкият Син се предава! Добре би било за този човек, ако не бе се родил.
22 И когато ядяха, Исус взе хляб, и като благослови, разчупи, даде им, и рече: Вземете, [яжте]; това е Моето тяло.
23 Взе и чашата, благослови, и даде им; и те всички пиха от нея.
24 И рече им: Това е Моята кръв на [новия] завет, която се пролива за мнозина.
25 Истина ви казвам, че няма вече да пия от плода на лозата до оня ден, когато ще го пия нов в Божието царство.
26 И като изпяха химн, излязоха на Елеонския хълм.
27 И Исус им каза: Вие всичките ще се съблазните [в Мене тая нощ]; защото е писано: "Ще поразя пастиря, и овците ще се разпръснат".
28 А подир възкресението Си ще ви предваря в Галилея.
29 А Петър Му рече: Ако и всички да се съблазнят, аз, обаче не.
30 Исус му каза: Истина ти казвам, че днес, тая нощ, преди да пее петелът дваж, ти три пъти ще се отречеш от Мене.
31 А той твърде разпалено казваше: Ако стане нужда и да умра с Тебе, пак няма да се отрека от Тебе. Същото казаха и другите.
32 Дохождат на едно място, наречено Гетсимания; и Той каза на учениците Си: Седете тука докле се помоля.
33 И взе със Себе Си Петра, Якова и Йоана, и захвана да се ужасява и да тъгува.
34 И казва им: Душата Ми е прескръбна до смърт; постойте тука и бдете.
35 И като отиде малко напред, падна на земята; и молеше се, ако е възможно, да Го отмине тоя час, казвайки:
36 Авва, Отче, за Тебе всичко е възможно; отмини Ме с тая чаша; не, обаче, както Аз искам, но както Ти искаш.
37 И идва, намира ги заспали; и казва на Петра: Симоне, спиш ли? Не можа ли един час да постоиш буден?
38 Бдете и молете се, за да не паднете в изкушение; духът е бодър, а тялото немощно.
39 И пак отиде и се помоли, като каза същите думи.
40 И като дойде пак, намери ги заспали, защото очите им бяха натегнали; и не знаеха що да Му отговорят.
41 И трети път дохожда и им казва: Още ли спите и почивате? Доста е! Дойде часът! Ето, Човешкият Син се предава в ръцете на грешниците.
42 Станете да вървим; ето, приближи се оня, който Ме предава.
43 И веднага, докато Той говореше, дохожда Юда, един от дванадесетте, и с него едно множество с ножове и сопи, изпратени от главните свещеници, книжниците и старейшините.
44 А оня, който Го предаваше, беше им дал знак, казвайки: Когото целуна, Той е; хванете Го и Го заведете, като Го пазите здраво.
45 И когато дойде, веднага се приближи до Него и каза: Учителю! И целуваше Го.
46 И те туриха ръце на Него и Го хванаха.
47 А един от стоящите там измъкна ножа си и удари слугата на първосвещеника и му отсече ухото.
48 Исус проговори и рече им: Като срещу разбойник ли сте излезли с ножове и сопи да Ме уловите?
49 Всеки ден бях при вас и поучавах в храма, и не Ме хванахте; но това стана, за да се сбъднат писанията.
50 Тогава всички Го оставиха и се разбягаха.
51 И някой си момък следваше подир Него, обвит с плащаница по голо; и те го хванаха.
52 А той, като остави плащаницата, избяга гол.
53 И заведоха Исуса при първосвещеника, при когото се събират и всичките главни свещеници, и старейшините, и книжниците.
54 А Петър Го беше следвал издалеч до вътре в двора на първосвещеника и седеше заедно със служителите и грееше се на пламъка.
55 И главните свещеници и целият синедрион търсеха свидетелство против Исуса, за да Го умъртвят, но не намериха.
56 Защото мнозина лъжесвидетелствуваха против Него, но свидетелствата им не бяха съгласни.
57 Сетне някои станаха и лъжесвидетелствуваха против Него, като казаха:
58 Ние Го чухме да казва: Аз ще разруша тоя ръкотворен храм, и за три дни ще съградя друг неръкотворен.
59 Но и така свидетелствата им не бяха съгласни.
60 Тогава първосвещеникът се изправи насред и попита Исуса, казвайки: Нищо ли не отговаряш? Какво свидетелствуват тия против Тебе?
61 А Той мълчеше и не отговори нищо. Първосвещеникът пак Го попита, като Му каза: Ти ли си Христос, Син на Благословения?
62 А Исус рече: Аз съм; и ще видите Човешкия Син седящ отдясно на силата и идещ с небесните облаци.
63 Тогава първосвещеникът раздра дрехите си и каза: Каква нужда имаме вече от свидетели?
64 Чухте богохулството; как ви се вижда? И те всички Го осъдиха, че се изложи на смъртно наказание.
65 И някои почнаха да Го заплюват, да Му закриват лицето, да Го блъскат и да Му казват: Познай. И служителите, като Го хванаха, удряха Го с плесници.
66 И когато Петър беше долу на двора, дохожда една от слугините на първосвещеника;
67 и като видя Петра че се грее, взря се в него и каза: И ти беше с Назарянина, с Исуса.
68 А той се отрече, казвайки: Нито зная, нито разбирам що говориш. И излезе вън на предверието; и петела изпя.
69 Но слугинята го видя и пак почна да казва на стоящите там: Тоя е от тях.
70 А той пак се отрече. След малко, стоящите там пак казаха на Петра: Наистина от тях си, защото си галилеянин, [и говорът ти съответствува].
71 А той започна да проклина и да се кълне: Не познавам Този човек за Когото говорите.
72 И на часа петелът изпя втори път. И Петър си спомни думата, която Исус му беше рекъл: Преди да пее петелът дваж, три пъти ще се отречеш от Мене. И като размисли за това, заплака.

14 (A)След два дни идеше Пасха и празник Безквасници; и първосвещениците и книжниците гледаха, как да Го уловят с измама и убият;
2 но казваха: само не на празника, за да не бъде смут у народа.
3 (B)И когато Той беше във Витания, в къщата на Симона Прокажени, и седеше на трапезата, дойде една жена, която носеше алабастрен съд с миро от чист, драгоценен нард, и, като счупи алабастрения съд, възливаше върху главата Му.
4 А някои негодуваха и казваха помежду си: защо стана това прахосване на мирото?
5 Та то можеше да се продаде за повече от триста динария, и парите да се раздадат на сиромаси. И роптаеха против нея.
6 Но Иисус рече: оставете я; що я смущавате? Тя извърши добро дело за Мене.
7 Защото сиромасите всякога имате при себе си и, кога поискате, можете да им сторите добро; а Мене не всякога имате.
8 Тя извърши, което можа; превари да помаже тялото Ми за погребение.
9 Истина ви казвам: дето и да бъде проповядвано това Евангелие по цял свят, ще се разказва за неин спомен и за това, що тя извърши.
10 (C)Тогава Иуда Искариот, един от дванайсетте, отиде при първосвещениците. за да им Го предаде.
11 А те, като чуха, зарадваха се и обещаха да му дадат сребърници. И търсеше, как да Го предаде в сгодно време.
12 (D)В първия ден на Безквасниците, когато колеха пасхалното агне, казват Му учениците: де искаш да отидем и приготвим, за да ядеш пасхата?
13 И изпраща двама от учениците Си, па им казва: идете в града; и ще ви срещне човек, който носи стомна с вода; идете след него.
14 И където той влезе, кажете на стопанина: Учителят казва: де е стаята, в която трябва да ям пасхата с учениците Си?
15 И той ще ви покаже горница голяма, постлана, готова; там ни пригответе.
16 И излязоха учениците Му, и дойдоха в града, и намериха, както им бе казал; и приготвиха пасхата.
17 Когато се свечери, Той дохожда с дванайсетте.
18 (E)И когато бяха седнали на трапезата и ядяха, Иисус рече: истина ви казвам, един от вас, който яде с Мене, ще Ме предаде.
19 А те почнаха да скърбят и да Му казват един след друг: да не съм аз?
20 А Той им отговори и рече: един от дванайсетте е, който топи с Мене в блюдото.
21 Прочее, Син Човеческий отива, както е писано за Него; но горко на оня човек, чрез когото Син Човеческий бъде предаден; добре щеше да бъде за тоя човек, ако не бе се родил.
22 (F)И когато те ядяха, Иисус, като взе хляб, благослови, преломи, даде им и рече: вземете, яжте; това е Моето тяло.
23 И като взе чашата и благодари, даде им; и пиха от нея всички.
24 И им рече: това е Моята кръв на новия завет, която за мнозина се пролива.
25 Истина ви казвам: Аз вече няма да пия от лозовия плод до оня ден, когато ще го пия нов в царството Божие.
26 И като изпяха хвалебна песен, излязоха на Елеонската планина.
27 (G)И казва им Иисус: всички вие ще се съблазните поради Мене през тая нощ; защото писано е: „ще поразя пастира, и ще се пръснат овците“.
28 (H)Но след възкресението Си ще ви изпреваря в Галилея.
29 А Петър Му рече: дори и всички да се съблазнят, аз обаче – не.
30 (I)Иисус му казва: истина ти казвам, че днес, в тая нощ, преди петел дваж да пропее, ти три пъти ще се отречеш от Мене.
31 Но той още повече настояваше: ако потрябва дори и да умра с Тебе, няма да се отрека от Тебе. Същото казваха и всички.
32 (J)Дохождат в едно село, наречено Гетсимания; и Той казва на учениците Си: поседете тук, докле се помоля.
33 И взима със Себе Си Петра, Иакова и Иоана; и почна да се ужасява и да тъгува.
34 И рече им: душата Ми е прескръбна до смърт; останете тук и бъдете будни.
35 И като се поотдалечи, падна на земята и се молеше, да Го отмине тоя час, ако е възможно;
36 (K)и казваше: Ава Отче! За Тебе е всичко възможно; отклони от Мене тая чаша; но да бъде не каквото Аз искам, а каквото Ти.
37 Дохожда, и ги намира, че спят, и казва на Петра: Симоне, спиш ли? не можа ли един час да постоиш буден?
38 (L)Бъдете будни и се молете, за да не паднете в изкушение: духът е бодър, а плътта – немощна.
39 И пак като отиде, помоли се и каза същите думи.
40 А като се завърна, намери ги пак да спят, понеже очите им бяха натегнали; и не знаеха, що да Му отговорят.
41 И дохожда трети път и им казва: спете, прочее, и почивайте! Свърши се, дойде часът: ето, Син Човеческий се предава в ръцете на грешниците.
42 Ставайте, да вървим! Ето, приближи се оня, който Ме предава.
43 (M)И тозчас, докле Той още говореше, Иуда, един от дванайсетте, дохожда, и с него множество народ с ножове и колове, от страна на първосвещениците, книжниците и стареите.
44 А оня, който Го предаваше, бе им дал знак, казвайки: Когото целуна, Той е; хванете Го и водете зорко.
45 И като дойде, веднага се приближи до Него и казва: Равѝ, Равѝ! и Го целуна.
46 А те сложиха ръцете си върху Му и Го хванаха.
47 А един от ония, които стояха там, извади нож, удари слугата на първосвещеника и му отряза ухото.
48 Тогава Иисус продума и им рече: като на разбойник сте излезли с ножове и колове, за да Ме хванете.
49 (N)Всеки ден бивах с вас в храма и поучавах, и Ме не хванахте: но – да се сбъднат Писанията.
50 Тогава всички ученици Го оставиха, и се разбягаха.
51 Един момък, обвит с платнище по голо тяло, вървеше подире Му; и войниците го хванаха.
52 Но той, като остави платнището, избяга гол от тях.
53 (O)И доведоха Иисуса при първосвещеника, при когото се събраха всички първосвещеници, стареи и книжници.
54 Петър Го следва отдалеч до вътре в двора на първосвещеника; и седеше със слугите и се грееше на огъня.
55 (P)А първосвещениците и целият синедрион търсеха свидетелство против Иисуса, за да Го умъртвят; и не намираха.
56 Защото мнозина лъжесвидетелствуваха против Него, ала тия свидетелства не бяха еднакви.
57 И някои станаха и лъжесвидетелствуваха против Него, като казваха:
58 (Q)чухме, че Той говореше: ще разруша тоя ръкотворен храм, и след три дни ще съзидам друг неръкотворен.
59 Но и това тяхно свидетелство не беше еднакво.
60 Тогава първосвещеникът застана посред и попита Иисуса, казвайки: нищо ли не отговаряш? Какво свидетелствуват тия против Тебе?
61 (R)Но Той мълчеше и нищо не отговаряше. Първосвещеникът пак Го попита и Му рече: Ти ли си Христос, Синът на Благословения?
62 (S)Иисус Му рече: Аз съм; и ще видите Сина Човечески да седи отдясно на Силата и да иде на небесните облаци.
63 Тогава първосвещеникът, като раздра дрехите си, каза: каква нужда имаме вече от свидетели?
64 Чухте богохулството; как ви се струва? И те всички признаха, че заслужава смърт.
65 И някои почнаха да плюят върху Му, да Му закриват лицето, да Го бият и да Му казват: проречи! И слугите му удряха плесници.
66 (T)Когато Петър беше долу на двора, дойде една от слугините на първосвещеника
67 и, като видя Петра да се грее, взря се в него и рече: и ти беше с Иисуса Назарееца.
68 Но той се отрече, като каза: не зная, нито разбирам, що говориш. И излезе вън на предния двор; и петел пропя.
69 Слугинята, като го видя пак, почна да говори на ония, що стояха там: този е от тях.
70 А той пак се отрече. След малко тия, що стояха там, пак почнаха да говорят на Петра: наистина, от тях си; защото си галилеец, и говорът ти прилича на галилейския.
71 И той почна да проклина и да се кълне: не познавам Тоя Човек, за Когото говорите.
72 (U)Тогава петел пропя втори път. И спомни си Петър думите, казани му от Иисуса: преди още петел дваж да пропее, три пъти ще се отречеш от Мене. И като падна на земята, почна да плаче.

Complot para prender y matar a Jesús
14 (A)Faltaban dos días para la Pascua(B) y para la fiesta de los panes sin levadura[a]; y los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo prenderle con engaño y matarle(C); 2 porque decían: No durante la fiesta, no sea que haya un tumulto del pueblo.
Jesús ungido en Betania
3 (D)Y estando Él en Betania(E), sentado[b] a la mesa en casa de Simón el leproso, vino una mujer con un frasco de alabastro de perfume muy costoso de nardo puro(F); y rompió el frasco y lo derramó sobre la cabeza de Jesús[c]. 4 Pero algunos estaban indignados y se decían unos a otros: ¿Para qué se ha hecho este desperdicio de perfume? 5 Porque este perfume podía haberse vendido por más de trescientos denarios[d], y dado el dinero a los pobres. Y la reprendían. 6 Pero Jesús dijo: Dejadla; ¿por qué la molestáis? Buena obra ha hecho conmigo. 7 Porque a los pobres siempre los tendréis[e] con vosotros; y cuando queráis les podréis[f] hacer bien; pero a mí no siempre me tendréis[g](G). 8 Ella ha hecho lo que ha podido; se ha anticipado a ungir mi cuerpo para la sepultura(H). 9 Y en verdad os digo: Dondequiera que el evangelio se predique en el mundo entero, también se hablará de lo que esta ha hecho, para memoria suya(I).
Traición de Judas
10 (J)Entonces Judas Iscariote, que era uno de los doce, fue a los principales sacerdotes para entregarles a Jesús[h](K). 11 Cuando ellos lo oyeron, se alegraron y prometieron darle dinero. Y él buscaba cómo entregarle en un momento oportuno.
Preparación de la Pascua
12 (L)El primer día de la fiesta de los panes sin levadura[i](M), cuando se sacrificaba(N) el cordero de la Pascua, sus discípulos le dijeron*: ¿Dónde quieres que vayamos y hagamos los preparativos para que comas la Pascua? 13 Y envió* a dos de sus discípulos, y les dijo*: Id a la ciudad, y allí os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidle; 14 y donde él entre, decid al dueño de la casa: «El Maestro dice: “¿Dónde está mi habitación en la que pueda comer la Pascua con mis discípulos(O)?”». 15 Y él os mostrará un gran aposento alto, amueblado y preparado; haced los preparativos para nosotros allí. 16 Salieron, pues, los discípulos y llegaron a la ciudad, y encontraron todo tal como Él les había dicho; y prepararon la Pascua.
Jesús identifica al traidor
17 (P)Al atardecer llegó* Él con los doce. 18 Y estando sentados[j] a la mesa comiendo, Jesús dijo: En verdad os digo que uno de vosotros me entregará; el que come conmigo. 19 Ellos comenzaron a entristecerse y a decirle uno por uno: ¿Acaso soy yo? 20 Y Él les dijo: Es uno de los doce, el que moja conmigo en el plato. 21 Porque el Hijo del Hombre se va tal y como está escrito de Él; pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del Hombre es entregado! Mejor le fuera a ese hombre no haber nacido[k].
Institución de la Cena del Señor
22 (Q)Y mientras comían, tomó pan, y habiéndolo bendecido lo partió, se lo dio a ellos(R), y dijo: Tomad, esto es mi cuerpo. 23 Y tomando una copa, después de dar gracias, se la dio a ellos, y todos bebieron de ella. 24 Y les dijo: Esto es mi sangre del nuevo[l] pacto(S), que es derramada por muchos(T). 25 En verdad os digo: Ya no beberé más del fruto de la vid hasta aquel día cuando lo beba nuevo en el reino de Dios.
26 Después de cantar un himno, salieron para el monte de los Olivos(U).
Jesús predice la negación de Pedro
27 (V)Y Jesús les dijo*: Todos vosotros os apartaréis[m], porque escrito está: «Heriré al pastor, y las ovejas se dispersarán(W)». 28 Pero después de que yo haya resucitado, iré delante de vosotros a Galilea(X). 29 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Aunque todos se aparten[n], yo, sin embargo, no lo haré. 30 Y Jesús le dijo*: En verdad te digo que tú, hoy, esta misma noche, antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces(Y). 31 Pero Pedro con insistencia repetía: Aunque tenga[o] que morir contigo, no te negaré. Y todos decían también lo mismo.
Jesús en Getsemaní
32 (Z)Y llegaron* a un lugar que se llama Getsemaní, y dijo* a sus discípulos: Sentaos aquí hasta que yo haya orado. 33 Y tomó* consigo a Pedro, a Jacobo[p] y a Juan, y comenzó a afligirse y a angustiarse mucho(AA). 34 Y les dijo*: Mi alma está muy afligida, hasta el punto de la muerte; quedaos aquí y velad(AB). 35 Adelantándose un poco, se postró[q] en tierra y oraba que si fuera posible, pasara de Él aquella[r] hora(AC). 36 Y decía: ¡Abba, Padre(AD)! Para ti todas las cosas son posibles; aparta de mí esta copa, pero no sea lo que yo quiero, sino lo que tú quieras(AE). 37 Entonces vino* y los halló* durmiendo, y dijo* a Pedro: Simón, ¿duermes? ¿No pudiste velar ni por una hora? 38 Velad y orad para que no entréis en tentación; el espíritu está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil(AF). 39 Se fue otra vez y oró, diciendo las mismas palabras[s]. 40 Y vino de nuevo y los halló durmiendo, porque sus ojos estaban muy cargados de sueño; y no sabían qué responderle. 41 Vino* por tercera vez, y les dijo*: ¿Todavía estáis[t] durmiendo y descansando? Basta ya(AG); ha llegado la hora; he aquí, el Hijo del Hombre es entregado en manos de los pecadores. 42 Levantaos, vámonos; mirad, está cerca el que me entrega.
Arresto de Jesús
43 (AH)En ese momento[u], mientras todavía estaba Él hablando, llegó* Judas, uno de los doce, acompañado de[v] una multitud con espadas y garrotes, de parte de los principales sacerdotes, de los escribas y de los ancianos. 44 Y el que le entregaba les había dado una señal, diciendo: Al que yo bese, ese es; prendedle y llevadle con seguridad[w]. 45 Y habiendo llegado, inmediatamente se acercó a Él diciendo: ¡Rabí[x](AI)! Y le besó. 46 Entonces ellos le echaron mano y le prendieron. 47 Pero uno de los que estaban allí, sacando la espada, hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote y le cortó[y] la oreja. 48 Y dirigiéndose[z] Jesús a ellos, les dijo: ¿Habéis salido con espadas y garrotes para arrestarme como contra un ladrón? 49 Cada día estaba con vosotros en el templo enseñando(AJ), y no me prendisteis; pero esto ha sucedido para[aa] que se cumplan las Escrituras. 50 Y abandonándole, huyeron todos.
Un joven sigue a Jesús
51 Cierto joven le seguía, vestido solo con una sábana sobre su cuerpo desnudo; y lo prendieron*; 52 pero él, dejando la sábana, escapó desnudo.

La negación de Pedro
66 (AZ)Estando Pedro abajo en el patio(BA), llegó* una de las sirvientas del sumo sacerdote, 67 y al ver a Pedro calentándose(BB), lo miró y dijo*: Tú también estabas con Jesús el Nazareno(BC). 68 Pero él lo negó, diciendo: Ni sé, ni entiendo de qué hablas. Y salió al portal[an](BD), y un gallo cantó[ao]. 69 Cuando la sirvienta lo vio, de nuevo comenzó a decir a los que estaban allí: Este es uno de ellos. 70 Pero él lo negó(BE) otra vez. Y poco después los que estaban allí volvieron a decirle a Pedro: Seguro que tú eres uno de ellos, pues también eres galileo(BF). 71 Pero él comenzó a maldecir[ap] y a jurar: ¡Yo no conozco a este hombre de quien habláis! 72 Al instante un gallo cantó por segunda vez. Jesus Anointed at Bethany(A)(B)(C)
14 Now the Passover(D) and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.(E) 2 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”
3 While he was in Bethany,(F) reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.(G)
4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.
6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want.(H) But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.(I) 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world,(J) what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve,(K) went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.(L) 11 They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper(M)(N)
12 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb,(O) Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
13 So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14 Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 He will show you a large room upstairs,(P) furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”
16 The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”
19 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”
20 “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me.(Q) 21 The Son of Man(R) will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it(S) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.(T)
24 “This is my blood of the[c] covenant,(U) which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”(V)
26 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(W)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(X)
27 “You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written:
28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(Z)
29 Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.”
30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice[e] you yourself will disown me three times.”(AA)
31 But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you,(AB) I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.
Gethsemane(AC)
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John(AD) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”(AE) he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour(AF) might pass from him. 36 “Abba,[f] Father,”(AG) he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup(AH) from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”(AI)
37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(AJ) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(AK)
39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour(AL) has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(AM)
43 Just as he was speaking, Judas,(AN) one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.
44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!”(AO) and kissed him. 46 The men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48 “Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus, “that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts,(AP) and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”(AQ) 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.(AR)
51 A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(AS)(AT)
53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. 54 Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest.(AU) There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.(AV)
55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(AW) were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. 56 Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.
57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,(AX) not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.(AY)
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”(AZ)
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”(BA)
63 The high priest tore his clothes.(BB) “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”
They all condemned him as worthy of death.(BC) 65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.(BD)
Peter Disowns Jesus(BE)
66 While Peter was below in the courtyard,(BF) one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself,(BG) she looked closely at him.
“You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,”(BH) she said.
68 But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,”(BI) he said, and went out into the entryway.[g]
69 When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70 Again he denied it.(BJ)
After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”(BK)
71 He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”(BL)
72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.[h] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice[i] you will disown me three times.”(BM) And he broke down and wept.

21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.

32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
