26 В начало на царуването на иудейския цар Иоакима, Иосиев син, биде такова слово от Господа:
2 (A)тъй казва Господ: застани в двора на Господния дом и кажи към всички градове на Иудея, които дохождат да се поклонят в Господния дом, всички ония думи, каквито ще ти заповядам да им кажеш; ни дума да не пропуснеш.
3 (B)Може би, те ще послушат и ще се отвърнат всеки от лошия си път, и тогава Аз ще отменя бедствието, което мисля да им изпратя за лошите им работи.
4 И речи им: тъй казва Господ: ако Ме не послушате, и не ходите по Моя закон, който съм ви дал,
5 (C)и не внимавате в думите на Моите раби – пророците, които пращам при вас, пращам ги от ранно утро, и които вие не слушате, –
6 (D)то с тоя дом ще направя същото, каквото – със Силом, и тоя град ще предам за проклятие на всички земни народи.
7 Свещеници и пророци и цял народ слушаха Иеремия, когато говореше тия думи в дома Господен.
8 И когато Иеремия каза всичко, що Господ бе му заповядал да каже на целия народ, тогава свещениците и пророците и целият народ го хванаха и рекоха: „ти трябва да умреш;
9 (E)защо пророкуваш в името на Господа и казваш: и тоя дом ще стане като Силом, и тоя град ще запустее, ще остане без жители?“ И целият народ се струпа около Иеремия в дома Господен.
10 (F)Когато иудейските князе чуха това, дойдоха от царския дом в дома Господен и седнаха при входа на новите порти на дома Господен.
11 (G)Тогава свещениците и пророците рекоха тъй на князете и на целия народ: „тоя човек трябва да бъде осъден на смърт, защото пророкува против тоя град, както чухте с ушите си!“
12 И рече Иеремия на всички князе и на целия народ: „Господ ме прати да пророкувам против тоя дом и против тоя град всички тия думи, що чухте;
13 (H)и тъй, оправете вашите пътища и вашите дела и послушайте гласа на Господа, вашия Бог, и Господ ще отмени бедствието, което изрече против вас;
14 а колкото за мене, – ето, аз съм във ваши ръце; правете с мене, каквото ви се стори добро и справедливо;
15 (I)само знайте добре, че, ако ме умъртвите, невинна кръв ще вземете върху себе си и върху тоя град и върху жителите му; защото наистина Господ ме прати при вас да кажа на ушите ви всички тия думи.“
16 Тогава князете и целият народ рекоха на свещениците и на пророците: тоя човек не подлежи на смъртна присъда, защото той ни говори в името на Господа, нашия Бог.
17 И някои местни старейшини станаха и казаха към цялото събрание народно:
18 (J)„Михей Мораститец пророкува в дните на иудейския цар Езекия, и говори на целия иудейски народ: тъй казва Господ Саваот: Сион ще бъде разоран като нива, и Иерусалим ще стане куп развалини, и планината на тоя дом – като горист хълм.
19 (K)Умъртви ли го заради това иудейският цар Езекия и цял Иуда? Не уплаши ли се тоя от Господа и не моли ли Господа? и Господ отмени бедствието, което беше изрекъл против тях; а ние да навлечем ли такова голямо зло на душите си?
20 (L)Пророкува в името на Господа и някой си Урия, син на Шемая, от Кариатиарим, – пророкува и против тоя град, и против тая земя със същите думи, както Иеремия.
21 Когато чу думите му цар Иоаким и всички негови велможи и всички князе, царят поиска да го умъртви. Като чу това, Урия се уплаши и побягна, и се отдалечи в Египет.
22 Но цар Иоаким прати и в Египет люде: Елнатана, Ахборовия син, и други с него.
23 (M)И изведоха Урия из Египет и доведоха го при цар Иоакима, и той го умъртви с меч и хвърли трупа му на простонародните гробища.“
24 (N)Но ръката на Сафановия син Ахикама опази Иеремия и не го даде в ръцете на народа да го убие.

26 В началото на царуването на Юдовия цар Иоаким, Иосиевия син, дойде това слово от Господа, което рече:
2 Така казва Господ: Застани в двора на Господния дом та изговори на всичките Юдови градове, които дохождат да се покланят в Господния дом, всичките думи, които ти заповядвам да им говориш; не задържай ни една дума.
3 Може би ще послушат, и всеки ще се върне от нечестивия си път, за да се разкая за злото, което възнамерявам да им сторя поради лошите им дела.
4 И да им речеш: Така казва Господ: Ако не Ме послушате да ходите в закона Ми, който поставих пред вас,
5 да слушате думите на слугите Ми пророците, които пращам при вас, като ставам рано и ги пращам, (но вие не послушахте),
6 тогава ще направя тоя дом като Сило, и ще направя тоя град <предмет, с който> всичките народи на света ще кълнат.
7 А свещениците, пророците и всичките люде чуха Еремия като говореше тия думи в Господния дом.
8 И като свърши Еремия да говори всичко, което Господ му бе заповядал да каже на всичките люде, тогава свещениците, пророците и всичките люде го хванаха и думаха: Непременно ще бъдеш умъртвен.
9 Ти защо пророкува в Господното име, като рече: Тоя дом ще стане като Сило, и тоя град ще се запусти та да няма жител? И всичките люде се събраха около Еремия в Господния дом.
10 И Юдовите първенци, като чуха това нещо, възлязоха от царския дворец в Господния дом и седнаха във входа на новата порта на Господния <дом>.
11 Тогава свещениците и пророците говориха на първенците и на всичките люде, казвайки: Този човек заслужава да бъде умъртвен, защото пророкува против тоя град, както чухте с ушите си.
12 Тогава Еремия говори на всичките първенци и на всичките люде, като рече: Господ ме изпрати да пророкувам против тоя дом и против тоя град всичките думи, които чухте.
13 Затова сега оправете постъпките си и делата си, и послушайте гласа на Господа вашия Бог; и Господ ще се разкае за злото, което е изговорил против вас.
14 А за мене, ето, съм в ръката ви; направете ми каквото ви се вижда за добро и угодно.
15 Но добре да знаете, че ако ме умъртвите, то ще докарате невинна кръв върху себе си, върху тоя град и върху жителите му; защото наистина Господ ме прати при вас да говоря в ушите ви всички тия думи.
16 Тогава първенците и всичките люде рекоха на свещениците и на пророците: Тоя човек не заслужава да бъде умъртвен; защото ни говори в името на Господа нашия Бог.
17 Тогава някои от местните старейшини станаха та говориха на всичките събрани люде, като казаха:
18 Михей моресетецът пророкуваше в дните на Юдовия цар Езекия, като говори на всичките Юдови люде, думайки: Така казва Господ на Силите: Сион ще се изоре като нива, Ерусалим ще стане грамади <от развалини>, и хълмът на дома като високи места на лес.
19 Умъртвиха ли го Юдовия цар Езекия и целия Юда? Не убоя ли се той от Господа, и не умилостиви ли Господа, та Господ се разкая за злото, което беше изрекъл против тях? Ние, прочее, бихме причинили голямо зло на своите души.
20 А имаше и друг човек, Урия Семаиевият син от Кириатиарим, който пророкуваше в Господното име; и пророкуваше против тоя град и против тая страна, със същите думи както и Еремия.
21 И когато цар Иоаким, всичките му силни мъже, и всичките първенци чуха думите му, царят търсеше <случай> да го умъртви; а Урия, като чу, уплаши се, побягна, та отиде в Египет.
22 А цар Иоаким прати мъже в Египет, Елнатана, Аховоровия син, и известни мъже с него в Египет,
23 та изведоха Урия из Египет, и го доведоха при цар Иоакима, който го порази с нож и хвърли трупа му в гробищата на простолюдието.
24 Но ръката на Ахикама Сафановия син бе с Еремия, за да го не предадат в ръката на людете та да го убият.

Jeremiah Threatened with Death
26 (A)In the beginning of the reign of (B)Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord: 2 “Thus says the Lord: (C)Stand in the court of the Lord's house, and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the Lord (D)all the words that I command you to speak to them; (E)do not hold back a word. 3 (F)It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, (G)that I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them (H)because of their evil deeds. 4 You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: (I)If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law that I have set before you, 5 (J)and to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you (K)urgently, (L)though you have not listened, 6 then I will make this house (M)like Shiloh, and I will make this city (N)a curse for all the nations of the earth.’”
7 (O)The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord. 8 And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then (P)the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die! 9 Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be (Q)like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, (R)without inhabitant’?” And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.
10 When (S)the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of the Lord and took their seat in the (T)entry of the New Gate of the house of the Lord. 11 Then (U)the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, (V)“This man deserves the sentence of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”
12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and all the people, saying, “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard. 13 Now therefore (W)mend your ways and your deeds, (X)and obey the voice of the Lord your God, (Y)and the Lord will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you. 14 (Z)But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do with me as seems good and right to you. 15 Only know for certain that if you put me to death, (AA)you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”
Jeremiah Spared from Death
16 (AB)Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, (AC)“This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.” 17 (AD)And certain of (AE)the elders of the land arose and spoke to all the assembled people, saying, 18 “Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and said to all the people of Judah: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts,
(AF)“‘Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.’
19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? (AG)Did he not fear the Lord and entreat the favor of the Lord, (AH)and did not the Lord relent of the disaster that he had pronounced against them? (AI)But we are about to bring great disaster upon ourselves.”
20 There was another man who prophesied in the name of the Lord, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from (AJ)Kiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land in words like those of Jeremiah. 21 And when (AK)King Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt. 22 Then (AL)King Jehoiakim sent to Egypt certain men, (AM)Elnathan the son of (AN)Achbor and others with him, 23 and they took Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, (AO)who struck him down with the sword and dumped his dead body into the burial place of the common people.
24 But the hand of (AP)Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.

2 Thus saith the Lord; Stand in the court of the Lord's house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the Lord's house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
3 If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
4 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,
5 To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;
6 Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
7 So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.
8 Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
9 Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.
10 When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king's house unto the house of the Lord, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the Lord's house.
11 Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
12 Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.
13 Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the Lord your God; and the Lord will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.
14 As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.
15 But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the Lord hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
16 Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.
17 Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,
18 Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the Lord, and besought the Lord, and the Lord repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.
20 And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the Lord, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjathjearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah.
21 And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;
22 And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.
23 And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
24 Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
