78 О Всевышний, чужие народы вторглись в Твой удел,
осквернили святой храм Твой
и превратили Иерусалим в развалины.
2 Они отдали трупы Твоих рабов
на съедение небесным птицам,
тела верных Тебе – земным зверям.
3 Они пролили кровь их, как воду,
вокруг всего Иерусалима,
и некому было похоронить их.
4 Мы сделались посмешищем у наших соседей;
окружающие презирают и упрекают нас.
5 Как долго, Вечный, Твой гнев будет длиться – бесконечно?
Как долго Твоя ревность будет пылать, как огонь?
6 Пролей Свой гнев на народы, которые не знают Тебя,
и на царства, которые не призывают Твоего имени,
7 потому что они истребили потомков Якуба
и землю их опустошили.
8 Не вмени нам грехов наших предков;
пусть милость Твоя поспешит к нам навстречу,
потому что мы в полном отчаянии.
9 Помоги нам, Всевышний, наш Спаситель,
ради славы имени Твоего.
Избавь нас и прости нам наши грехи
ради имени Твоего.
10 Для чего народам говорить: «Где их Бог?»
Пусть станет известно между народами,
как отомстил Ты за пролитую кровь Твоего народа,
и пусть это увидят наши глаза.
11 Пусть дойдёт до Тебя стенание узника;
сильной рукою Своею сохрани обречённых на смерть.
12 Семикратно возврати нашим соседям их оскорбление,
которое они Тебе нанесли, о Владыка.
13 А мы, народ Твой и овцы пастбищ Твоих,
вечно будем восхвалять Тебя
и возвещать о славе Твоей
из поколения в поколение.

A maskil[a] of Asaph.
1 My people, hear my teaching;(A)
listen to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth with a parable;(B)
I will utter hidden things, things from of old—
3 things we have heard and known,
things our ancestors have told us.(C)
4 We will not hide them from their descendants;(D)
we will tell the next generation(E)
the praiseworthy deeds(F) of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders(G) he has done.
5 He decreed statutes(H) for Jacob(I)
and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our ancestors
to teach their children,
6 so the next generation would know them,
even the children yet to be born,(J)
and they in turn would tell their children.
7 Then they would put their trust in God
and would not forget(K) his deeds
but would keep his commands.(L)
8 They would not be like their ancestors(M)—
a stubborn(N) and rebellious(O) generation,
whose hearts were not loyal to God,
whose spirits were not faithful to him.
9 The men of Ephraim, though armed with bows,(P)
turned back on the day of battle;(Q)
10 they did not keep God’s covenant(R)
and refused to live by his law.(S)
11 They forgot what he had done,(T)
the wonders he had shown them.
12 He did miracles(U) in the sight of their ancestors
in the land of Egypt,(V) in the region of Zoan.(W)
13 He divided the sea(X) and led them through;
he made the water stand up like a wall.(Y)
14 He guided them with the cloud by day
and with light from the fire all night.(Z)
15 He split the rocks(AA) in the wilderness
and gave them water as abundant as the seas;
16 he brought streams out of a rocky crag
and made water flow down like rivers.
17 But they continued to sin(AB) against him,
rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.
18 They willfully put God to the test(AC)
by demanding the food they craved.(AD)
19 They spoke against God;(AE)
they said, “Can God really
spread a table in the wilderness?
20 True, he struck the rock,
and water gushed out,(AF)
streams flowed abundantly,
but can he also give us bread?
Can he supply meat(AG) for his people?”
21 When the Lord heard them, he was furious;
his fire broke out(AH) against Jacob,
and his wrath rose against Israel,
22 for they did not believe in God
or trust(AI) in his deliverance.
23 Yet he gave a command to the skies above
and opened the doors of the heavens;(AJ)
24 he rained down manna(AK) for the people to eat,
he gave them the grain of heaven.
25 Human beings ate the bread of angels;
he sent them all the food they could eat.
26 He let loose the east wind(AL) from the heavens
and by his power made the south wind blow.
27 He rained meat down on them like dust,
birds(AM) like sand on the seashore.
28 He made them come down inside their camp,
all around their tents.
29 They ate till they were gorged—(AN)
he had given them what they craved.
30 But before they turned from what they craved,
even while the food was still in their mouths,(AO)
31 God’s anger rose against them;
he put to death the sturdiest(AP) among them,
cutting down the young men of Israel.
32 In spite of all this, they kept on sinning;(AQ)
in spite of his wonders,(AR) they did not believe.(AS)
33 So he ended their days in futility(AT)
and their years in terror.
34 Whenever God slew them, they would seek(AU) him;
they eagerly turned to him again.
35 They remembered that God was their Rock,(AV)
that God Most High was their Redeemer.(AW)
36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths,(AX)
lying to him with their tongues;
37 their hearts were not loyal(AY) to him,
they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Yet he was merciful;(AZ)
he forgave(BA) their iniquities(BB)
and did not destroy them.
Time after time he restrained his anger(BC)
and did not stir up his full wrath.
39 He remembered that they were but flesh,(BD)
a passing breeze(BE) that does not return.
40 How often they rebelled(BF) against him in the wilderness(BG)
and grieved him(BH) in the wasteland!
41 Again and again they put God to the test;(BI)
they vexed the Holy One of Israel.(BJ)
42 They did not remember(BK) his power—
the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,(BL)
43 the day he displayed his signs(BM) in Egypt,
his wonders(BN) in the region of Zoan.
44 He turned their river into blood;(BO)
they could not drink from their streams.
45 He sent swarms of flies(BP) that devoured them,
and frogs(BQ) that devastated them.
46 He gave their crops to the grasshopper,(BR)
their produce to the locust.(BS)
47 He destroyed their vines with hail(BT)
and their sycamore-figs with sleet.
48 He gave over their cattle to the hail,
their livestock(BU) to bolts of lightning.
49 He unleashed against them his hot anger,(BV)
his wrath, indignation and hostility—
a band of destroying angels.(BW)
50 He prepared a path for his anger;
he did not spare them from death
but gave them over to the plague.
51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,(BX)
the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.(BY)
52 But he brought his people out like a flock;(BZ)
he led them like sheep through the wilderness.
53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
but the sea engulfed(CA) their enemies.(CB)
54 And so he brought them to the border of his holy land,
to the hill country his right hand(CC) had taken.
55 He drove out nations(CD) before them
and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;(CE)
he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.
56 But they put God to the test
and rebelled against the Most High;
they did not keep his statutes.
57 Like their ancestors(CF) they were disloyal and faithless,
as unreliable as a faulty bow.(CG)
58 They angered him(CH) with their high places;(CI)
they aroused his jealousy with their idols.(CJ)
59 When God heard(CK) them, he was furious;(CL)
he rejected Israel(CM) completely.
60 He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,(CN)
the tent he had set up among humans.(CO)
61 He sent the ark of his might(CP) into captivity,(CQ)
his splendor into the hands of the enemy.
62 He gave his people over to the sword;(CR)
he was furious with his inheritance.(CS)
63 Fire consumed(CT) their young men,
and their young women had no wedding songs;(CU)
64 their priests were put to the sword,(CV)
and their widows could not weep.
65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep,(CW)
as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.
66 He beat back his enemies;
he put them to everlasting shame.(CX)
67 Then he rejected the tents of Joseph,
he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;(CY)
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,(CZ)
Mount Zion,(DA) which he loved.
69 He built his sanctuary(DB) like the heights,
like the earth that he established forever.
70 He chose David(DC) his servant
and took him from the sheep pens;
71 from tending the sheep(DD) he brought him
to be the shepherd(DE) of his people Jacob,
of Israel his inheritance.
72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;(DF)
with skillful hands he led them.

O cântare a lui Asaf
1 Ascultă(A), poporul meu, învăţăturile mele!
Luaţi aminte la cuvintele gurii mele!
2 Îmi deschid(B) gura şi vorbesc în pilde,
vestesc înţelepciunea vremurilor străvechi.
3 Ce(C) am auzit, ce ştim,
ce ne-au povestit părinţii noştri,
4 nu(D) vom ascunde de copiii lor,
ci vom(E) vesti neamului de oameni care va veni laudele Domnului,
puterea Lui şi minunile pe care le-a făcut.
5 El(F) a pus o mărturie în Iacov,
a dat o Lege în Israel
şi a poruncit părinţilor noştri
să-şi(G) înveţe în ea copiii,
6 ca(H) să fie cunoscută de cei ce vor veni după ei, de copiii care se vor naşte
şi care, când se vor face mari, să vorbească despre ea copiilor lor;
7 pentru ca aceştia să-şi pună încrederea în Dumnezeu,
să nu uite lucrările lui Dumnezeu
şi să păzească poruncile Lui.
8 Să(I) nu fie ca părinţii lor,
un(J) neam neascultător şi răzvrătit,
un neam care n-avea o inimă tare
şi al cărui duh nu era credincios lui Dumnezeu!
9 Fiii lui Efraim, înarmaţi şi trăgând cu arcul,
au dat dosul în ziua luptei,
10 pentru că n-au(K) ţinut legământul lui Dumnezeu,
şi n-au voit să umble întocmai după Legea Lui.
11 Au dat uitării(L) lucrările Lui,
minunile Lui, pe care li le arătase.
12 Înaintea părinţilor lor, El făcuse minuni(M)
în ţara Egiptului, în(N) câmpia Ţoan.
13 A despărţit(O) marea şi le-a deschis un drum prin ea,
ridicând(P) apele ca un zid.
14 I-a(Q) călăuzit ziua cu un nor
şi toată noaptea cu lumina unui foc strălucitor.
15 A despicat(R) stânci în pustie
şi le-a dat să bea ca din nişte valuri cu ape multe.
16 A făcut să ţâşnească izvoare din(S) stânci
şi să curgă ape ca nişte râuri.
17 Dar ei tot n-au încetat să păcătuiască împotriva Lui,
n-au încetat să se răzvrătească(T) împotriva Celui Preaînalt în pustie.
18 Au ispitit(U) pe Dumnezeu în inima lor,
cerând mâncare după poftele lor.
19 Au vorbit(V) împotriva lui Dumnezeu
şi au zis: „Oare va putea Dumnezeu să pună o masă în pustie?
20 Iată(W) că El a lovit stânca, de au curs ape
şi s-au vărsat şiroaie.
Dar va putea El să dea şi pâine
sau să facă rost de carne poporului Său?”
21 Domnul a auzit şi S-a(X) mâniat.
Un foc s-a aprins împotriva lui Iacov
şi s-a stârnit împotriva lui Israel mânia Lui,
22 pentru că n-au crezut(Y) în Dumnezeu,
pentru că n-au avut încredere în ajutorul Lui.
23 El a poruncit norilor de sus
şi a deschis porţile cerurilor:
24 a(Z) plouat peste ei mană de mâncare
şi le-a dat grâu din cer.
25 Au mâncat cu toţii pâinea celor mari
şi le-a trimis mâncare să se sature.
26 A(AA) pus să sufle în ceruri vântul de răsărit
şi a adus, prin puterea Lui, vântul de miazăzi.
27 A plouat peste ei carne ca pulberea
şi păsări înaripate cât nisipul mării;
28 le-a făcut să cadă în mijlocul taberei lor,
de jur împrejurul locuinţelor lor.
29 Ei(AB) au mâncat şi s-au săturat din destul:
Dumnezeu le-a dat ce doriseră.
30 Dar n-apucaseră să-şi astâmpere bine pofta,
mâncarea(AC) le era încă în gură,
31 când s-a stârnit mânia lui Dumnezeu împotriva lor,
a lovit de moarte pe cei mai tari dintre ei
şi a doborât pe tinerii lui Israel.
32 Cu toate acestea, ei(AD) n-au încetat să păcătuiască
şi(AE) n-au crezut în minunile Lui.
33 De(AF) aceea, El le-a curmat zilele ca o suflare,
le-a curmat anii printr-un sfârşit năpraznic.
34 Când(AG) îi lovea de moarte, ei Îl căutau,
se întorceau şi se îndreptau spre Dumnezeu;
35 îşi aduceau aminte că Dumnezeu(AH) este Stânca lor
şi că Dumnezeul Atotputernic este Izbăvitorul(AI) lor.
36 Dar Îl înşelau(AJ) cu gura
şi-L minţeau cu limba.
37 Inima(AK) nu le era tare faţă de El
şi nu erau credincioşi legământului Său.
38 Totuşi(AL), în îndurarea Lui, El iartă nelegiuirea şi nu nimiceşte;
Îşi opreşte(AM) de multe ori mânia
şi(AN) nu dă drumul întregii Lui urgii.
39 El Şi-a(AO) adus deci aminte că(AP) ei nu erau decât carne,
o(AQ) suflare care trece şi nu se mai întoarce.
40 De câte ori s-au răzvrătit ei împotriva Lui în pustie!
De câte ori L-au mâniat(AR) ei în pustietate!
41 Da, n-au încetat să ispitească(AS) pe Dumnezeu
şi să întărâte(AT) pe Sfântul lui Israel.
42 Nu şi-au mai adus aminte de puterea Lui,
de ziua când i-a izbăvit de vrăjmaş,
43 de minunile pe care le-a(AU) făcut în Egipt
şi de semnele Lui minunate din câmpia Ţoan.
44 Cum(AV) le-a prefăcut râurile în sânge
şi n-au putut să bea din apele lor.
45 Cum a(AW) trimis împotriva lor nişte muşte otrăvitoare care i-au mâncat
şi(AX) broaşte care i-au nimicit.
46 Cum(AY) le-a dat holdele pradă omizilor,
rodul muncii lor pradă lăcustelor.
47 Cum le-a(AZ) prăpădit viile, bătându-le cu piatră,
şi smochinii din Egipt cu grindină.
48 Cum le-a lăsat(BA) vitele pradă grindinei
şi turmele pradă focului cerului.
49 El Şi-a aruncat împotriva lor mânia Lui aprinsă,
urgia, iuţimea şi necazul:
o droaie de îngeri aducători de nenorociri.
50 Cum Şi-a dat drum slobod mâniei,
nu le-a scăpat sufletul de la moarte
şi le-a dat viaţa pradă molimei;
51 cum(BB) a lovit pe toţi întâii născuţi din Egipt,
pârga puterii în corturile(BC) lui Ham.
52 Cum a(BD) pornit pe poporul Său ca pe nişte oi,
şi i-a povăţuit ca pe o turmă în pustie.
53 Cum i-a dus(BE) fără nicio grijă,
ca să nu le fie frică,
iar(BF) marea a acoperit pe vrăjmaşii lor.
54 Cum i-a adus spre hotarul Lui cel sfânt(BG),
spre muntele acesta, pe(BH) care dreapta Lui l-a câştigat.
55 Cum a izgonit(BI) neamurile dinaintea lor,
le-a(BJ) împărţit ţara în părţi de moştenire
şi a pus seminţiile lui Israel să locuiască în corturile lor.
56 Dar(BK) ei au ispitit pe Dumnezeul
Preaînalt, s-au răzvrătit împotriva Lui
şi n-au ţinut poruncile Lui.
57 Ci s-au(BL) depărtat şi au fost necredincioşi, ca şi părinţii lor,
s-au abătut la o parte, ca(BM) un arc înşelător,
58 L-au(BN) supărat prin înălţimile(BO) lor
şi I-au stârnit gelozia cu idolii lor.
59 Dumnezeu a auzit şi S-a mâniat,
şi a urgisit rău de tot pe Israel.
60 A(BP) părăsit locuinţa Lui din Silo,
cortul în care locuia între oameni.
61 Şi-a(BQ) dat slava pradă robiei
şi măreţia Lui, în mâinile vrăjmaşului.
62 A(BR) dat pradă sabiei pe poporul Lui
şi S-a mâniat pe moştenirea Lui.
63 Pe tinerii lui i-a ars focul
şi fecioarele(BS) lui n-au mai fost sărbătorite cu cântări de nuntă.
64 Preoţii(BT) săi au căzut ucişi de sabie,
şi văduvele(BU) lui nu s-au bocit.
65 Atunci, Domnul S-a(BV) trezit, ca(BW) unul care a dormit,
ca un viteaz îmbărbătat de vin,
66 şi(BX) a lovit pe potrivnicii Lui care fugeau,
acoperindu-i cu veşnică ocară.
67 Însă a lepădat cortul lui Iosif
şi n-a ales seminţia lui Efraim,
68 ci a ales seminţia lui Iuda,
Muntele Sionului, pe(BY) care-l iubeşte.
69 Şi-a(BZ) zidit Sfântul Locaş ca cerurile de înalt
şi tare ca pământul pe care l-a întemeiat pe veci.
70 A(CA) ales pe robul Său David
şi l-a luat de la staulele de oi.
71 L-a luat dindărătul oilor(CB) care alăptau,
ca să pască(CC) pe poporul Său Iacov şi pe moştenirea Sa Israel.
72 Şi David i-a cârmuit cu o inimă neprihănită(CD)
şi i-a povăţuit cu mâini pricepute.
