10 Докле Ездра тъй се молеше и изповядваше, плачейки и мятайки се пред Божия дом, стече се при него твърде голямо събрание от израилтяни, мъже, жени и деца, защото и народът плачеше много.
2 (A)Тогава се обади Шехания, син Иехиилов от синовете Еламови, и каза на Ездра: прегрешихме пред нашия Бог, че си взехме другоплеменни жени от народите на тая земя, но има още надежда за Израиля в тая работа;
3 да сключим сега завет с нашия Бог, че, по съвета на моя господар и на ония, които благоговеят пред заповедите на нашия Бог, ще напуснем всички жени и родените от тях деца, – и да бъде по закона!
4 (B)Стани, защото това е твое дело, и ние сме с тебе: бъди бодър и работи!
5 (C)Тогава стана Ездра и поръча на началниците над свещениците, левитите и цял Израил да положат клетва, че ще направят тъй. И те положиха клетва.
6 (D)Стана Ездра и тръгна от Божия дом за в жилището на Иоханана, Елияшивовия син, и стигна там. Хляб не ядеше и вода не пиеше, защото плачеше за престъпленията на преселниците.
7 И разгласиха в Иудея и в Иерусалим на всички, които бяха в плен, да се съберат в Иерусалим,
8 (E)а който не дойде в три дни, ще бъде наложено заклятие, по решение на началниците и старейшините, върху целия му имот, и сам той ще бъде отлъчен от обществото на преселниците.
9 (F)И в тия три дни събраха се в Иерусалим всички жители на Иудея и на земята Вениаминова. Това беше в деветия месец на двайсетия ден от месеца. Седеше целият народ на стъгдата пред Божия дом и трепереше, както поради тая работа, тъй и от дъждовете.
10 (G)Тогава свещеник Ездра стана и им каза: вие направихте престъпление, като си взехте другоплеменни жени и с това увеличихте вината на Израиля;
11 затова, покайте се пред Господа, Бога на вашите отци, и изпълнете волята Му, отлъчете се от народите на тая земя и от другоплеменните жени.
12 Цялото събрание отговори и каза с висок глас: както каза, тъй ще и направим.
13 Но народът е многоброен, и времето е сега дъждовно, та не може да се стои на улицата. Па и тая работа не е ни за ден, нито за два, защото ние съгрешихме много в тая работа.
14 Нека нашите началници бъдат заместници на цялото общество, и всички в нашите градове, които са взели другоплеменни жени, да идват тука в уреченото време заедно със стареите и съдиите на всеки град, докле се не отвърне от нас пламенният гняв на нашия Бог поради това нещо.
15 Тогава се заеха с това Ионатан, син Асаилов, и Яхзеия, син Тиквов, а Мешулам и Шавтай, левит, бяха техни помощници.
16 Тъй сториха излезлите из плен. Отредени бяха за това: свещеник Ездра, отценачалниците от всяко тяхно поколение, и всички бяха именувани по име. Те се събраха на заседание в първия ден на десетия месец, за да изследват тая работа;
17 и свършиха изследването за всички, които бяха взели другоплеменни жени, към първия ден на първия месец.
18 (H)И намериха се от свещеническите синове, които бяха взели другоплеменни жени, – от синовете на Иисуса, сина Иоседеков, и братята му: Маасея, Елиезер, Иарив и Гедалия;
19 (I)те дадоха ръката си за уверение, че ще напуснат жените си, и че, като виновни, ще принесат жертва един овен за вината си;
20 от Имеровите синове: Хананий и Завадия;
21 (J)от Харимовите синове: Маасея, Елия, Шемаия, Иехиил и Узия;
22 от Пашхуровите синове: Елиоенай, Маасея, Исмаил, Натанаил, Иозавад и Еласа;
23 от левитите: Иозавад, Шимей и Келаия, той е и Клита, Патахия, Иуда и Елиезер;
24 от певците: Елияшив; от вратарите: Шалум, Телем и Урий;
25 а от израилтяните, – от Парошовите синове: Рамаия, Изия, Малхия, Миямин, Елеазар, Малхия и Венаия;
26 от синовете Еламови: Матания, Захария, Иехиел, Авдий, Иремот и Елия;
27 от синовете Затови: Елиоенай, Елияшив, Матания, Иремот, Завад и Азиса;
28 от синовете Беваеви: Иоханан, Ханания, Забвай и Атлай;
29 от синовете Ваниеви: Мешулам, Малух, Адая, Иашув, Шеал и Иерамот;
30 от синовете на Пахат-Моава: Адна, Хелал, Венаия, Маасея, Матания, Веселиил, Бинуй и Манасия;
31 от синовете Харимови: Елиезер, Ишия, Малхия, Шемаия, Симеон,
32 Вениамин, Малух, Шемария;
33 от синовете Хашумови: Матнай, Матата, Завад, Елифелет, Иеремай, Манасия и Шимей;

Trimiterea femeilor străine
10 Pe când(A) sta Ezra plângând şi cu faţa la pământ înaintea(B) Casei lui Dumnezeu şi făcea această rugăciune şi mărturisire, se strânsese la el o mulţime foarte mare de oameni din Israel, bărbaţi, femei şi copii, şi poporul vărsa multe lacrimi. 2 Atunci, Şecania, fiul lui Iehiel, dintre fiii lui Elam, a luat cuvântul şi a zis lui Ezra: „Am păcătuit(C) împotriva Dumnezeului nostru ducându-ne la femei străine, care fac parte din popoarele ţării. Dar Israel n-a rămas fără nădejde în această privinţă. 3 Să facem acum un legământ(D) cu Dumnezeul nostru pentru izgonirea tuturor acestor femei şi a copiilor lor, după părerea domnului meu şi a celor ce se tem(E) de poruncile(F) Dumnezeului nostru. Şi facă-se după Lege. 4 Scoală-te, căci treaba aceasta te priveşte. Noi vom fi cu tine. Îmbărbătează-te(G) şi lucrează.” 5 Ezra s-a sculat şi a pus pe căpeteniile preoţilor, leviţilor şi întregului Israel să jure(H) că vor face ce se spusese. Şi ei au jurat. 6 Apoi Ezra a plecat dinaintea Casei lui Dumnezeu şi s-a dus în odaia lui Iohanan, fiul lui Eliaşib. Când a intrat, n-a mâncat pâine(I) şi n-a băut apă, pentru că era mâhnit din pricina păcatului fiilor robiei. 7 S-a dat de veste în Iuda şi la Ierusalim că toţi fiii robiei trebuie să se adune la Ierusalim 8 şi că, după părerea căpeteniilor şi bătrânilor, oricui nu va veni în trei zile i se vor lua averile şi el însuşi va fi izgonit din adunarea fiilor robiei. 9 Toţi bărbaţii lui Iuda şi Beniamin s-au strâns la Ierusalim în trei zile. Era a douăzecea zi a lunii a noua. Tot poporul(J) stătea pe locul deschis dinaintea Casei lui Dumnezeu, tremurând din pricina împrejurării aceleia şi de ploaie. 10 Preotul Ezra s-a sculat şi le-a zis: „Aţi păcătuit luând femei străine şi aţi făcut pe Israel şi mai vinovat. 11 Mărturisiţi-vă acum(K) greşeala înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului părinţilor voştri, şi faceţi voia Lui! Despărţiţi-vă(L) de popoarele ţării şi de femeile străine.” 12 Toată adunarea a răspuns cu glas tare: „Trebuie să facem cum ai zis! 13 Dar poporul este în mare număr, vremea este ploioasă şi nu poate să rămână afară. De altfel, aceasta nu este treabă de o zi sau două, căci sunt mulţi printre noi care au păcătuit în privinţa aceasta. 14 Să rămână dar toate căpeteniile noastre în locul întregii adunări. Şi toţi cei din cetăţile noastre care s-au însurat cu femei străine să vină la timpuri hotărâte, cu bătrânii şi judecătorii din fiecare cetate, până se va abate de la noi mânia(M) aprinsă a Dumnezeului nostru din pricina întâmplării acesteia.” 15 Ionatan, fiul lui Asael, şi Iahzia, fiul lui Ticva, ajutaţi de Meşulam şi de levitul Şabtai, au fost singurii împotriva acestei păreri 16 pe care au primit-o fiii robiei. Au ales pe preotul Ezra şi capi de familii după casele lor părinteşti, toţi numiţi pe nume, şi au stat în ziua întâi a lunii a zecea să cerceteze lucrul acesta. 17 În ziua întâi a lunii întâi, au isprăvit cu toţi bărbaţii care se însuraseră cu femei străine. 18 Între fiii preoţilor, s-au găsit unii care se însuraseră cu femei străine: dintre fiii lui Iosua, fiul lui Ioţadac, şi dintre fraţii săi: Maaseia, Eliezer, Iarib şi Ghedalia, care s-au îndatorat, 19 dând(N) mâna, să-şi izgonească nevestele şi să aducă un berbec ca jertfă pentru vină; 20 din fiii lui Imer: Hanani şi Zebadia; 21 din fiii lui Harim: Maaseia, Ilie, Şemaia, Iehiel şi Ozia; 22 din fiii lui Paşhur: Elioenai, Maaseia, Ismael, Netaneel, Iozabad şi Eleasa. 23 Dintre leviţi: Iozabad, Şimei, Chelaia, sau Chelita, Petahia, Iuda şi Eliezer. 24 Dintre cântăreţi: Eliaşib. The People’s Confession of Sin
10 While Ezra was praying and confessing,(A) weeping(B) and throwing himself down before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites—men, women and children—gathered around him. They too wept bitterly. 2 Then Shekaniah son of Jehiel, one of the descendants of Elam,(C) said to Ezra, “We have been unfaithful(D) to our God by marrying foreign women from the peoples around us. But in spite of this, there is still hope for Israel.(E) 3 Now let us make a covenant(F) before our God to send away(G) all these women and their children, in accordance with the counsel of my lord and of those who fear the commands of our God. Let it be done according to the Law. 4 Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.”
5 So Ezra rose up and put the leading priests and Levites and all Israel under oath(H) to do what had been suggested. And they took the oath. 6 Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and went to the room of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. While he was there, he ate no food and drank no water,(I) because he continued to mourn over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
7 A proclamation was then issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem for all the exiles to assemble in Jerusalem. 8 Anyone who failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, in accordance with the decision of the officials and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles.
9 Within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin(J) had gathered in Jerusalem. And on the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people were sitting in the square before the house of God, greatly distressed by the occasion and because of the rain. 10 Then Ezra(K) the priest stood up and said to them, “You have been unfaithful; you have married foreign women, adding to Israel’s guilt.(L) 11 Now honor[a] the Lord, the God of your ancestors, and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples around you and from your foreign wives.”(M)
12 The whole assembly responded with a loud voice:(N) “You are right! We must do as you say. 13 But there are many people here and it is the rainy season; so we cannot stand outside. Besides, this matter cannot be taken care of in a day or two, because we have sinned greatly in this thing. 14 Let our officials act for the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at a set time, along with the elders and judges(O) of each town, until the fierce anger(P) of our God in this matter is turned away from us.” 15 Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai(Q) the Levite, opposed this.
16 So the exiles did as was proposed. Ezra the priest selected men who were family heads, one from each family division, and all of them designated by name. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to investigate the cases, 17 and by the first day of the first month they finished dealing with all the men who had married foreign women.

18 Among the descendants of the priests, the following had married foreign women:(R)
From the descendants of Joshua(S) son of Jozadak, and his brothers: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib and Gedaliah. 19 (They all gave their hands(T) in pledge to put away their wives, and for their guilt they each presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.)(U)
20 From the descendants of Immer:(V)
Hanani and Zebadiah.
21 From the descendants of Harim:(W)
Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel and Uzziah.
22 From the descendants of Pashhur:(X)
Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad and Elasah.
23 Among the Levites:(Y)
Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah and Eliezer.
24 From the musicians:
Eliashib.(Z)
From the gatekeepers:
Shallum, Telem and Uri.
25 And among the other Israelites:
From the descendants of Parosh:(AA)
Ramiah, Izziah, Malkijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malkijah and Benaiah.

10 Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.
2 And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
4 Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.
5 Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.
6 Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away.
7 And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;
8 And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.
9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.
10 And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.
11 Now therefore make confession unto the Lord God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.
12 Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said, so must we do.
13 But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.
14 Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.
15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.
16 And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17 And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.
18 And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19 And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass.
20 And of the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah.
21 And of the sons of Harim; Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22 And of the sons of Pashur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23 Also of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah, (the same is Kelita,) Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24 Of the singers also; Eliashib: and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
25 Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
