47 И тъй, Иосиф влезе при Фараона и му извести, казвайки: Баща ми и братята ми, стадата им и добитъкът им, и всичко що имат дойдоха от Ханаанската земя, и сега са в Гесенската земя.
2 И взе петима от братята си та ги представи на Фараона.
3 И Фараон рече на братята му: Що е занятието ви? А те казаха на Фараона: Ние, слугите ти, и бащите ни, сме овчари.
4 Рекоха още на Фараона: Дойдохме да поживеем в тая земя, защото няма пасище за стадата на слугите ти, понеже гладът се засили в Ханаанската земя; затова, молим ти се нека живеят слугите ти в Гесенската земя.
5 И Фараон говори на Иосифа, казвайки: Баща ти и братята ти дойдоха при тебе;
6 Египетската земя е пред тебе; настани баща си и братята си в най-добрата местност от земята; нека живеят в Гесенската земя. И ако знаеш, че някои от тях са способни мъже, постави ги надзиратели над моя добитък.
7 След това Иосиф въведе баща си Якова и го представи на Фараона; и Яков благослови Фараона.
8 И Фараон рече на Якова: Колко е числото {Еврейски: колко са дните.} на годините на живота ти?
9 И Яков каза на Фараона: Числото на годините на пришелствуването ми е сто и тридесет години; малко и зло е било числото на годините на живота ми, и не достигна до числото на годините на живота на бащите ми, във времето на тяхното пришелствуване.
10 И като благослови Фараона, Яков излезе от Фараоновото присъствие.
11 Тогава Иосиф настани баща си и братята си, като им даде имот в Египетската земя, в най-добрата местност от земята в Рамесийската земя, според както заповяда Фараон.
12 И Иосиф хранеше баща си, братята си и целия си бащин дом с хляб, според <големината> на челядите им.
13 А нямаше хляб по цялата земя, защото гладът дотолкова се засилваше, щото Египетската земя и Ханаанската земя се изнуриха от глада.
14 И Иосиф прибра всичките пари, които се намираха в Египетската и Ханаанската земя, за житото, което купуваха; и Иосиф донесе парите във Фараоновия дом.
15 И като се свършиха всичките пари в Египетската земя и Ханаанската земя, всичките египтяни дойдоха при Иосифа и рекоха: Дай ни хляб; защо да умираме пред тебе, понеже се свършиха парите <ни>?
16 А Иосиф рече: Ако парите <ви> са се свършили, докарайте добитъка си, и ще ви дам <хляб> срещу добитъка ви.
17 И тъй, докарваха добитъка си на Иосифа; и Иосиф им даваше хляб срещу конете, стадата, добитъка и ослите им; и така, през оная година той ги прехрани с хляб срещу всичкия им добитък.
18 И като се измина оная година, дойдоха при него и другата година и му казаха: Няма да скрием от господаря си, че всичките ни пари се свършиха; и добитъкът стана на господаря ни; не остана друго пред господаря ни освен телата ни и земята ни.
19 Защо да измрем пред очите ти и земята ни <да запустее>? Купи нас и земята ни за хляб, и ние ще бъдем слуги на Фараона, и земята ни <за него ще ражда>. Дай ни и семе, за да останем живи да не умрем, и да не запустее земята.
20 И тъй, Иосиф закупи за Фараона цялата Египетска земя, защото египтяните продаваха всеки нивата си, понеже гладът се засилваше над тях; така земята стана Фараонова.
21 И той пресели населението в градовете от единия край до другия край на египетските предели.
22 Само земята на жреците не закупи, защото жреците имаха <определен> от Фараона дял и се прехранваха от дела, който Фараон им даде; затова не продадоха земята си.
23 Тогава Иосиф каза на людете: Ето, днес закупих вас и земята ви за Фараона; на ви семе та засейте земята.
24 Затова, във време на беритбата ще давате петата част на Фараона, а четирите части ще бъдат за вас да засеете нивите, и за храна за вас и за домашните ви, и за храна на децата ви.
25 И те рекоха: Ти опази живота ни; нека придобием благоволението на господаря си, и ще бъдем слуги на Фараона.
26 И Иосиф постави това за повеление в Египетската земя, <както> е и до днес, да се дава петата част на Фараона; само земята на жреците единствено не стана Фараонова.
27 И тъй, Израил се засели в Египетската земя, в Гесенската страна, гдето придобиваха имения, наплодяваха се, и твърде се размножаваха.
28 И Яков живя седемнадесет години в Египетската земя, така че числото на годините на Яковия живот стана сто четиридесет и седем години.
29 А като наближи времето, когато Израил трябваше да умре, повика сина си Иосифа и му каза: Ако съм придобил твоето благоволение, моля, тури ръката си под бедрото ми, и <закълни ми се, че ще> ми покажеш тая благост и вярност: да не ме погребеш в Египет,
30 но когато почина с бащите си, да ме пренесеш от Египет и да ме погребеш в тяхната гробница. А той рече: Ще направя според както си казал.
31 И рече <Яков>: Закълни ми се; и той му се закле. Тогава Израил се поклони върху възглавницата на леглото.

47 (A)И дойде Иосиф та обади на фараона, като рече: баща ми и братята ми, с дребния и едрия си добитък и с всичкия си имот, дойдоха от Ханаанската земя; и ето, те са в земя Гесем.
2 И взе от братята си петима души и ги представи на фараона.
3 (B)И попита фараонът братята му: с какво се поминувате? Те отговориха фараону: овчари сме твоите раби, и ние и бащите ни.
4 И рекоха те на фараона: дойдохме да поживеем в тая земя, защото няма паша за добитъка на твоите раби, понеже в Ханаанската земя има голям глад; затова позволи на твоите раби да се заселят в земя Гесем.
5 А фараонът рече на Иосифа: баща ти и братята ти дойдоха при тебе;
6 (C)Египетската земя е пред тебе; засели баща си и братята си на най-доброто място в страната; нека живеят в земя Гесем; и ако знаеш, че между тях има способни люде, постави ги нагледници над моя добитък.
7 Тогава Иосиф доведе баща си Иакова и го представи на фараона; а Иаков благослови фараона.
8 Фараонът попита Иакова: колко са годините на живота ти?
9 (D)Иаков отговори на фараона: дните на моето странствуване са сто и трийсет години; кратки и злочести са дните на моя живот и не достигнаха до годините на живота на отците ми в дните на тяхното странствуване.
10 Иаков благослови фараона и си излезе.
11 (E)Иосиф засели баща си и братята си, и им даде владение в Египетската земя, в най-добрата част на тая земя, в областта Раамсес, както бе заповядал фараонът.
12 (F)И доставяше храна Иосиф на баща си и братята си и на целия си бащин дом, според нуждите на всяка челяд.
13 А жито нямаше по цялата земя, защото гладът се бе усилил твърде много, та изнемощя от глад Египетската земя, както и Ханаанската земя.
14 Иосиф събра всичкото сребро, колкото имаше в Египетската и в Ханаанската земя, за житото, което купуваха, и това сребро внесе Иосиф в дома фараонов.
15 Привърши се среброто в Египетската и в Ханаанската земя. Тогава всички египтяни дойдоха при Иосифа и казваха: дай ни хляб; защо да умираме пред тебе, задето ни се свърши среброто?
16 Иосиф отговори: докарвайте добитъка си, и ще ви давам (хляб) срещу добитъка ви, щом сте свършили среброто си.
17 И докарваха добитъка си при Иосифа, а Иосиф им даваше жито срещу коне, срещу стада от дребен и едър добитък, и срещу осли; и им доставяше хляб през оная година срещу всичкия им добитък.
18 И премина тая година; и на втората година дойдоха при него и му рекоха: няма да скрием от нашия господар, че среброто се свърши, и добитъкът принадлежи на нашия господар; нищо вече не ни остана за пред господаря ни, освен телата ни и земите ни;
19 защо да гинем пред твоите очи, и ние и земите ни? Купи нас и земите ни срещу жито, и ще бъдем със земите си роби на фараона, а ти ни дай семе, за да останем живи и да не умрем, та и земята ни да не запустее.
20 Тогава Иосиф прекупи цялата Египетска земя за фараона, тъй като всички египтяни продадоха нивите си, понеже гладът ги притискаше. И земята стана имот на фараона.
21 И пороби той народа от единия край на Египет до другия.
22 Само земята на жреците не купи (той), защото жреците имаха определен от фараона дял, и те се хранеха от своя дял, даден им от фараона; затова и не продадоха земята си.
23 И каза Иосиф на народа: ето, купих сега вас и земята ви за фараона; ето ви семе, засявайте земята;
24 по време на жетва давайте на фараона петата част, а четири части ще останат за вас, за засяване нивите, за прехрана на вас и на ония, които са в домовете ви, и за прехрана на децата ви.
25 Те рекоха: ти ни спаси живота; нека намерим милост пред очите на господаря си и нека бъдем роби фараонови.
26 И нареди Иосиф закон в Египетската земя, дори доднес: петата част да се дава на фараона, с изключение само земята на жреците, която не принадлежеше на фараона.
27 (G)А Израил живееше в Египетската земя, в земя Гесем, която владееха те, и се плодяха, и твърде се умножиха.
28 Иаков живя в Египетската земя седемнайсет години; дните на Иакова, годините на живота му бяха сто четирийсет и седем години.
29 (H)Дойде време да умре Израил, и повика сина си Иосифа и му рече: ако съм намерил благоволение пред очите ти, тури ръката си под бедрото ми и се закълни, че ще ми сториш милост и правда: не ще ме погребеш в Египет,
30 (I)та да легна при отците си; ще ме изнесеш от Египет и ще ме погребеш в тяхната гробница. Иосиф рече: ще постъпя според думата ти.

47 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan(A) and are now in Goshen.”(B) 2 He chose five of his brothers and presented them(C) before Pharaoh.
3 Pharaoh asked the brothers, “What is your occupation?”(D)
“Your servants(E) are shepherds,(F)” they replied to Pharaoh, “just as our fathers were.” 4 They also said to him, “We have come to live here for a while,(G) because the famine is severe in Canaan(H) and your servants’ flocks have no pasture.(I) So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.”(J)
5 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you, 6 and the land of Egypt is before you; settle(K) your father and your brothers in the best part of the land.(L) Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability,(M) put them in charge of my own livestock.(N)”
7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him(O) before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed[a] Pharaoh,(P) 8 Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?”
9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty.(Q) My years have been few and difficult,(R) and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.(S)” 10 Then Jacob blessed[b] Pharaoh(T) and went out from his presence.
11 So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land,(U) the district of Rameses,(V) as Pharaoh directed. 12 Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children.(W)
Joseph and the Famine
13 There was no food, however, in the whole region because the famine was severe; both Egypt and Canaan wasted away because of the famine.(X) 14 Joseph collected all the money that was to be found in Egypt and Canaan in payment for the grain they were buying,(Y) and he brought it to Pharaoh’s palace.(Z) 15 When the money of the people of Egypt and Canaan was gone,(AA) all Egypt came to Joseph(AB) and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes?(AC) Our money is all gone.”
16 “Then bring your livestock,(AD)” said Joseph. “I will sell you food in exchange for your livestock, since your money is gone.(AE)” 17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses,(AF) their sheep and goats, their cattle and donkeys.(AG) And he brought them through that year with food in exchange for all their livestock.
18 When that year was over, they came to him the following year and said, “We cannot hide from our lord the fact that since our money is gone(AH) and our livestock belongs to you,(AI) there is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land. 19 Why should we perish before your eyes(AJ)—we and our land as well? Buy us and our land in exchange for food,(AK) and we with our land will be in bondage to Pharaoh.(AL) Give us seed so that we may live and not die,(AM) and that the land may not become desolate.”
20 So Joseph bought all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh. The Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields, because the famine was too severe(AN) for them. The land became Pharaoh’s, 21 and Joseph reduced the people to servitude,[c](AO) from one end of Egypt to the other. 22 However, he did not buy the land of the priests,(AP) because they received a regular allotment from Pharaoh and had food enough from the allotment(AQ) Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.
23 Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed(AR) for you so you can plant the ground.(AS) 24 But when the crop comes in, give a fifth(AT) of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children.”
25 “You have saved our lives,” they said. “May we find favor in the eyes of our lord;(AU) we will be in bondage to Pharaoh.”(AV)
26 So Joseph established it as a law concerning land in Egypt—still in force today—that a fifth(AW) of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. It was only the land of the priests that did not become Pharaoh’s.(AX)
27 Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen.(AY) They acquired property there(AZ) and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.(BA)
28 Jacob lived in Egypt(BB) seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven.(BC) 29 When the time drew near for Israel(BD) to die,(BE) he called for his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes,(BF) put your hand under my thigh(BG) and promise that you will show me kindness(BH) and faithfulness.(BI) Do not bury me in Egypt, 30 but when I rest with my fathers,(BJ) carry me out of Egypt and bury me where they are buried.”(BK)
“I will do as you say,” he said.
31 “Swear to me,”(BL) he said. Then Joseph swore to him,(BM) and Israel(BN) worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.[d](BO)

Joseph Is Governor of Egypt
47 Then Joseph (A)went and told Pharaoh, and said, “My father and my brothers, their flocks and their herds and all that they possess, have come from the land of Canaan; and indeed they are in (B)the land of Goshen.” 2 And he took five men from among his brothers and (C)presented them to Pharaoh. 3 Then Pharaoh said to his brothers, (D)“What is your occupation?”
And they said to Pharaoh, (E)“Your servants are shepherds, both we and also our fathers.” 4 And they said to Pharaoh, (F)“We have come to dwell in the land, because your servants have no pasture for their flocks, (G)for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants (H)dwell in the land of Goshen.”
5 Then Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, “Your father and your brothers have come to you. 6 (I)The land of Egypt is before you. Have your father and brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell (J)in the land of Goshen. And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock.”
7 Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob (K)blessed Pharaoh. 8 Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How old are you?”
9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, (L)“The days of the years of my [a]pilgrimage are (M)one hundred and thirty years; (N)few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and (O)they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.” 10 So Jacob (P)blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.
11 And Joseph situated his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of (Q)Rameses, (R)as Pharaoh had commanded. 12 Then Joseph provided (S)his father, his brothers, and all his father’s household with bread, according to the number in their families.
Joseph Deals with the Famine
13 Now there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, (T)so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. 14 (U)And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
15 So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us bread, for (V)why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed.”
16 Then Joseph said, “Give your livestock, and I will give you bread for your livestock, if the money is gone.” 17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, the flocks, the cattle of the herds, and for the donkeys. Thus he [b]fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock that year.
18 When that year had ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is gone; my lord also has our herds of livestock. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our lands. 19 Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants of Pharaoh; give us seed, that we may (W)live and not die, that the land may not be desolate.”
20 Then Joseph (X)bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh’s. 21 And as for the people, he [c]moved them into the cities, from one end of the borders of Egypt to the other end. 22 (Y)Only the land of the (Z)priests he did not buy; for the priests had rations allotted to them by Pharaoh, and they ate their rations which Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their lands.
23 Then Joseph said to the people, “Indeed I have bought you and your land this day for Pharaoh. Look, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. 24 And it shall come to pass in the harvest that you shall give one-fifth to Pharaoh. Four-fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and for your food, for those of your households and as food for your little ones.”
25 So they said, “You have saved (AA)our lives; let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.” 26 And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have one-fifth, (AB)except for the land of the priests only, which did not become Pharaoh’s.
Joseph’s Vow to Jacob
27 So Israel (AC)dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions there and (AD)grew and multiplied exceedingly. 28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years. 29 When the time (AE)drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “Now if I have found favor in your sight, please (AF)put your hand under my thigh, and (AG)deal kindly and truly with me. (AH)Please do not bury me in Egypt, 30 but (AI)let me lie with my fathers; you shall carry me out of Egypt and (AJ)bury me in their burial place.”
And he said, “I will do as you have said.”
31 Then he said, “Swear to me.” And he swore to him. So (AK)Israel bowed himself on the head of the bed.
