Isaiah 53:2-12
New International Version
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,(A)
and like a root(B) out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance(C) that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering,(D) and familiar with pain.(E)
Like one from whom people hide(F) their faces
he was despised,(G) and we held him in low esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,(H)
yet we considered him punished by God,(I)
stricken by him, and afflicted.(J)
5 But he was pierced(K) for our transgressions,(L)
he was crushed(M) for our iniquities;
the punishment(N) that brought us peace(O) was on him,
and by his wounds(P) we are healed.(Q)
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,(R)
each of us has turned to our own way;(S)
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity(T) of us all.
7 He was oppressed(U) and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;(V)
he was led like a lamb(W) to the slaughter,(X)
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression[a] and judgment(Y) he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;(Z)
for the transgression(AA) of my people he was punished.[b]
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,(AB)
and with the rich(AC) in his death,
though he had done no violence,(AD)
nor was any deceit in his mouth.(AE)
10 Yet it was the Lord’s will(AF) to crush(AG) him and cause him to suffer,(AH)
and though the Lord makes[c] his life an offering for sin,(AI)
he will see his offspring(AJ) and prolong his days,
and the will of the Lord will prosper(AK) in his hand.
11 After he has suffered,(AL)
he will see the light(AM) of life[d] and be satisfied[e];
by his knowledge[f] my righteous servant(AN) will justify(AO) many,
and he will bear their iniquities.(AP)
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,[g](AQ)
and he will divide the spoils(AR) with the strong,[h]
because he poured out his life unto death,(AS)
and was numbered with the transgressors.(AT)
For he bore(AU) the sin of many,(AV)
and made intercession(AW) for the transgressors.

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Do Everything Without Grumbling
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,(N) 13 for it is God who works in you(O) to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.(P)
14 Do everything without grumbling(Q) or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless(R) and pure, “children of God(S) without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”[c](T) Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ(U) that I did not run(V) or labor in vain.(W) 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering(X) on the sacrifice(Y) and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.(Z) 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
Timothy and Epaphroditus
19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy(AA) to you soon,(AB) that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 20 I have no one else like him,(AC) who will show genuine concern for your welfare. 21 For everyone looks out for their own interests,(AD) not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father(AE) he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me.(AF) 24 And I am confident(AG) in the Lord that I myself will come soon.
25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker(AH) and fellow soldier,(AI) who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.(AJ) 26 For he longs for all of you(AK) and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him,(AL) so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. 29 So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him,(AM) 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.(AN)

26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.
27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:
30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
