⁶ The following day they rose early, offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings. The people sat down and ate and drank. They then rose to divert themselves.

²⁵ Moses saw that the people had lost control of themselves (for Aaron had let them run so wild that their enemies mocked them).

²³ For they have perpetrated outrageous crimes in Israel; not only did they commit adultery with their neighbors’ wives, but in my name they have spoken lies that I never commanded them to utter. I know these things and bear witness to them, says the Lord.

⁹ In you are those whose slander incites to bloodshed; in you are those who eat^[a] on the mountains and revel in their lewdness. ¹⁰ In you are men who have exposed the nakedness of their fathers and who violate women during their menstrual periods. ¹¹ In you are men who engage in abominable practices with their neighbors’ wives and lewdly defile their daughters-in-law. Still others among you ravish their sisters, the daughters of their fathers.

²⁶ You rely on your swords, you engage in abominable practices, and each of you defiles his neighbor’s wife. Should you then be permitted to possess the land?
