Revelation 16-20
New King James Version
The Seven Bowls
16 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying (A)to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the [a]bowls (B)of the wrath of God on the earth.”
First Bowl: Loathsome Sores
2 So the first went and poured out his bowl (C)upon the earth, and a [b]foul and (D)loathsome sore came upon the men (E)who had the mark of the beast and those (F)who worshiped his image.
Second Bowl: The Sea Turns to Blood
3 Then the second angel poured out his bowl (G)on the sea, and (H)it became blood as of a dead man; (I)and every living creature in the sea died.
Third Bowl: The Waters Turn to Blood
4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl (J)on the rivers and springs of water, (K)and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying:
(L)“You are righteous, [c]O Lord,
The One (M)who is and who [d]was and who is to be,
Because You have judged these things.
6 For (N)they have shed the blood (O)of saints and prophets,
(P)And You have given them blood to drink.
[e]For it is their just due.”
7 And I heard [f]another from the altar saying, “Even so, (Q)Lord God Almighty, (R)true and righteous are Your judgments.”
Fourth Bowl: Men Are Scorched
8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl (S)on the sun, (T)and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they (U)blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; (V)and they did not repent (W)and give Him glory.
Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain
10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl (X)on the throne of the beast, (Y)and his kingdom became full of darkness; (Z)and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.
Sixth Bowl: Euphrates Dried Up
12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl (AA)on the great river Euphrates, (AB)and its water was dried up, (AC)so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean (AD)spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of (AE)the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of (AF)the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, (AG)performing signs, which go out to the kings [g]of the earth and of (AH)the whole world, to gather them to (AI)the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
15 (AJ)“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, (AK)lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”
16 (AL)And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, [h]Armageddon.
Seventh Bowl: The Earth Utterly Shaken
17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, (AM)“It is done!” 18 And (AN)there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; (AO)and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake (AP)as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19 Now (AQ)the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And (AR)great Babylon (AS)was remembered before God, (AT)to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20 Then (AU)every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.
The Scarlet Woman and the Scarlet Beast
17 Then (AV)one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying [i]to me, “Come, (AW)I will show you the judgment of (AX)the great harlot (AY)who sits on many waters, 2 (AZ)with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and (BA)the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”
3 So he carried me away in the Spirit (BB)into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting (BC)on a scarlet beast which was full of (BD)names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman (BE)was arrayed in purple and scarlet, (BF)and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, (BG)having in her hand a golden cup (BH)full of abominations and the filthiness of [j]her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written:
(BI)MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS
OF THE EARTH.
6 I saw (BJ)the woman, drunk (BK)with the blood of the saints and with the blood of (BL)the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.
The Meaning of the Woman and the Beast
7 But the angel said to me, “Why did you marvel? I will tell you the [k]mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and (BM)will ascend out of the bottomless pit and (BN)go to [l]perdition. And those who (BO)dwell on the earth (BP)will marvel, (BQ)whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and [m]yet is.
9 (BR)“Here is the mind which has wisdom: (BS)The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 10 There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must (BT)continue a short time. 11 The (BU)beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to [n]perdition.
12 (BV)“The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 (BW)These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will (BX)overcome them, (BY)for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; (BZ)and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
15 Then he said to me, (CA)“The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, (CB)are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. 16 And the ten horns which you [o]saw on the beast, (CC)these will hate the harlot, make her (CD)desolate (CE)and naked, eat her flesh and (CF)burn her with fire. 17 (CG)For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, (CH)until the words of God are fulfilled. 18 And the woman whom you saw (CI)is that great city (CJ)which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
The Fall of Babylon the Great
18 After(CK) these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, (CL)and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2 And he cried [p]mightily with a loud voice, saying, (CM)“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and (CN)has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and (CO)a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations (CP)have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, (CQ)and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the [q]abundance of her luxury.”
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, (CR)“Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 (CS)For her sins [r]have reached to heaven, and (CT)God has remembered her iniquities. 6 (CU)Render to her just as she rendered [s]to you, and repay her double according to her works; (CV)in the cup which she has mixed, (CW)mix double for her. 7 (CX)In the measure that she glorified herself and lived [t]luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as (CY)queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ 8 Therefore her plagues will come (CZ)in one day—death and mourning and famine. And (DA)she will be utterly burned with fire, (DB)for strong is the Lord God who [u]judges her.
The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall
9 (DC)“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her (DD)will weep and lament for her, (DE)when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, (DF)‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! (DG)For in one hour your judgment has come.’
11 “And (DH)the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 (DI)merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and (DJ)souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have [v]gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, (DK)that great city (DL)that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 (DM)For in one hour such great riches [w]came to nothing.’ (DN)Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 (DO)and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, (DP)‘What is like this great city?’
19 (DQ)“They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! (DR)For in one hour she [x]is made desolate.’
20 (DS)“Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you [y]holy apostles and prophets, for (DT)God has avenged you on her!”
Finality of Babylon’s Fall
21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, (DU)“Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and (DV)shall not be found anymore. 22 (DW)The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore. 23 (DX)The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, (DY)and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For (DZ)your merchants were the great men of the earth, (EA)for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24 And (EB)in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who (EC)were slain on the earth.”
Heaven Exults over Babylon
19 After these things (ED)I [z]heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! (EE)Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to [aa]the Lord our God! 2 For (EF)true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He (EG)has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.” 3 Again they said, “Alleluia! (EH)Her smoke rises up forever and ever!” 4 And (EI)the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, (EJ)“Amen! Alleluia!” 5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying, (EK)“Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, (EL)both[ab] small and great!”
6 (EM)And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For (EN)the[ac] Lord God Omnipotent reigns! 7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for (EO)the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” 8 And (EP)to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, (EQ)for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
9 Then he said to me, “Write: (ER)‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, (ES)“These are the true sayings of God.” 10 And (ET)I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, (EU)“See that you do not do that! I am your (EV)fellow servant, and of your brethren (EW)who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the (EX)testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Christ on a White Horse
11 (EY)Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, (EZ)a white horse. And He who sat on him was called (FA)Faithful and True, and (FB)in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 (FC)His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. (FD)He [ad]had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 (FE)He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called (FF)The Word of God. 14 (FG)And the armies in heaven, (FH)clothed in [ae]fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now (FI)out of His mouth goes a [af]sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And (FJ)He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. (FK)He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And (FL)He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
(FM)KING OF KINGS AND
LORD OF LORDS.
The Beast and His Armies Defeated
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, (FN)“Come and gather together for the [ag]supper of the great God, 18 (FO)that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, [ah]free and slave, both small and great.”
19 (FP)And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. 20 (FQ)Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and (FR)those who worshiped his image. (FS)These two were cast alive into the lake of fire (FT)burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest (FU)were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. (FV)And all the birds (FW)were filled with their flesh.
Satan Bound 1,000 Years
20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, (FX)having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of (FY)the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and (FZ)set a seal on him, (GA)so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
The Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years
4 And I saw (GB)thrones, and they sat on them, and (GC)judgment was committed to them. Then I saw (GD)the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, (GE)who had not worshiped the beast (GF)or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they (GG)lived and (GH)reigned with Christ for [ai]a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such (GI)the second death has no power, but they shall be (GJ)priests of God and of Christ, (GK)and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Satanic Rebellion Crushed(GL)
7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out (GM)to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, (GN)Gog and Magog, (GO)to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 (GP)They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone (GQ)where[aj] the beast and the false prophet are. And they (GR)will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
The Great White Throne Judgment
11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face (GS)the earth and the heaven fled away. (GT)And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, (GU)small and great, standing before [ak]God, (GV)and books were opened. And another (GW)book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged (GX)according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, (GY)and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. (GZ)And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then (HA)Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. (HB)This is the second [al]death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life (HC)was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 16-20
New International Version
The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath
16 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple(A) saying to the seven angels,(B) “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”(C)
2 The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land,(D) and ugly, festering sores(E) broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.(F)
3 The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.(G)
4 The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water,(H) and they became blood.(I) 5 Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say:
“You are just in these judgments,(J) O Holy One,(K)
you who are and who were;(L)
6 for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets,(M)
and you have given them blood to drink(N) as they deserve.”
7 And I heard the altar(O) respond:
8 The fourth angel(R) poured out his bowl on the sun,(S) and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire.(T) 9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God,(U) who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent(V) and glorify him.(W)
10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast,(X) and its kingdom was plunged into darkness.(Y) People gnawed their tongues in agony 11 and cursed(Z) the God of heaven(AA) because of their pains and their sores,(AB) but they refused to repent of what they had done.(AC)
12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates,(AD) and its water was dried up to prepare the way(AE) for the kings from the East.(AF) 13 Then I saw three impure spirits(AG) that looked like frogs;(AH) they came out of the mouth of the dragon,(AI) out of the mouth of the beast(AJ) and out of the mouth of the false prophet.(AK) 14 They are demonic spirits(AL) that perform signs,(AM) and they go out to the kings of the whole world,(AN) to gather them for the battle(AO) on the great day(AP) of God Almighty.
15 “Look, I come like a thief!(AQ) Blessed is the one who stays awake(AR) and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”(AS)
16 Then they gathered the kings together(AT) to the place that in Hebrew(AU) is called Armageddon.(AV)
17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air,(AW) and out of the temple(AX) came a loud voice(AY) from the throne, saying, “It is done!”(AZ) 18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder(BA) and a severe earthquake.(BB) No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth,(BC) so tremendous was the quake. 19 The great city(BD) split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered(BE) Babylon the Great(BF) and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.(BG) 20 Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.(BH) 21 From the sky huge hailstones,(BI) each weighing about a hundred pounds,[a] fell on people. And they cursed God(BJ) on account of the plague of hail,(BK) because the plague was so terrible.
Babylon, the Prostitute on the Beast
17 One of the seven angels(BL) who had the seven bowls(BM) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment(BN) of the great prostitute,(BO) who sits by many waters.(BP) 2 With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”(BQ)
3 Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit(BR) into a wilderness.(BS) There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet(BT) beast that was covered with blasphemous names(BU) and had seven heads and ten horns.(BV) 4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls.(BW) She held a golden cup(BX) in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.(BY) 5 The name written on her forehead was a mystery:(BZ)
6 I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people,(CC) the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. 7 Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery(CD) of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.(CE) 8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss(CF) and go to its destruction.(CG) The inhabitants of the earth(CH) whose names have not been written in the book of life(CI) from the creation of the world will be astonished(CJ) when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.
9 “This calls for a mind with wisdom.(CK) The seven heads(CL) are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while. 11 The beast who once was, and now is not,(CM) is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.
12 “The ten horns(CN) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour(CO) will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13 They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.(CP) 14 They will wage war(CQ) against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over(CR) them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings(CS)—and with him will be his called, chosen(CT) and faithful followers.”
15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters(CU) you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.(CV) 16 The beast and the ten horns(CW) you saw will hate the prostitute.(CX) They will bring her to ruin(CY) and leave her naked;(CZ) they will eat her flesh(DA) and burn her with fire.(DB) 17 For God has put it into their hearts(DC) to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority,(DD) until God’s words are fulfilled.(DE) 18 The woman you saw is the great city(DF) that rules over the kings of the earth.”
Lament Over Fallen Babylon
18 After this I saw another angel(DG) coming down from heaven.(DH) He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor.(DI) 2 With a mighty voice he shouted:
“‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’[b](DJ)
She has become a dwelling for demons
and a haunt for every impure spirit,(DK)
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal.(DL)
3 For all the nations have drunk
the maddening wine of her adulteries.(DM)
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,(DN)
and the merchants of the earth grew rich(DO) from her excessive luxuries.”(DP)
Warning to Escape Babylon’s Judgment
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say:
“‘Come out of her, my people,’[c](DQ)
so that you will not share in her sins,
so that you will not receive any of her plagues;(DR)
5 for her sins are piled up to heaven,(DS)
and God has remembered(DT) her crimes.
6 Give back to her as she has given;
pay her back(DU) double(DV) for what she has done.
Pour her a double portion from her own cup.(DW)
7 Give her as much torment and grief
as the glory and luxury she gave herself.(DX)
In her heart she boasts,
‘I sit enthroned as queen.
I am not a widow;[d]
I will never mourn.’(DY)
8 Therefore in one day(DZ) her plagues will overtake her:
death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,(EA)
for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
Threefold Woe Over Babylon’s Fall
9 “When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her(EB) and shared her luxury(EC) see the smoke of her burning,(ED) they will weep and mourn over her.(EE) 10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off(EF) and cry:
11 “The merchants(EI) of the earth will weep and mourn(EJ) over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore(EK)— 12 cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;(EL) 13 cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and human beings sold as slaves.(EM)
14 “They will say, ‘The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your luxury and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.’ 15 The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her(EN) will stand far off,(EO) terrified at her torment. They will weep and mourn(EP) 16 and cry out:
“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(EQ)
dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet,
and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls!(ER)
17 In one hour(ES) such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’(ET)
“Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea,(EU) will stand far off.(EV) 18 When they see the smoke of her burning,(EW) they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city(EX)?’(EY) 19 They will throw dust on their heads,(EZ) and with weeping and mourning(FA) cry out:
“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city,(FB)
where all who had ships on the sea
became rich through her wealth!
In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’(FC)
20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens!(FD)
Rejoice, you people of God!
Rejoice, apostles and prophets!
For God has judged her
with the judgment she imposed on you.”(FE)
The Finality of Babylon’s Doom
21 Then a mighty angel(FF) picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea,(FG) and said:
“With such violence
the great city(FH) of Babylon will be thrown down,
never to be found again.
22 The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters,
will never be heard in you again.(FI)
No worker of any trade
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of a millstone
will never be heard in you again.(FJ)
23 The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The voice of bridegroom and bride
will never be heard in you again.(FK)
Your merchants were the world’s important people.(FL)
By your magic spell(FM) all the nations were led astray.
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people,(FN)
of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.”(FO)
Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall
19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude(FP) in heaven shouting:
“Hallelujah!(FQ)
Salvation(FR) and glory and power(FS) belong to our God,
2 for true and just are his judgments.(FT)
He has condemned the great prostitute(FU)
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”(FV)
3 And again they shouted:
4 The twenty-four elders(FY) and the four living creatures(FZ) fell down(GA) and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:
“Amen, Hallelujah!”(GB)
5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying:
6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude,(GE) like the roar of rushing waters(GF) and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah!(GG)
For our Lord God Almighty(GH) reigns.(GI)
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!(GJ)
For the wedding of the Lamb(GK) has come,
and his bride(GL) has made herself ready.
8 Fine linen,(GM) bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts(GN) of God’s holy people.)
9 Then the angel said to me,(GO) “Write this:(GP) Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”(GQ) And he added, “These are the true words of God.”(GR)
10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him.(GS) But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!(GT) For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”(GU)
The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast
11 I saw heaven standing open(GV) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider(GW) is called Faithful and True.(GX) With justice he judges and wages war.(GY) 12 His eyes are like blazing fire,(GZ) and on his head are many crowns.(HA) He has a name written on him(HB) that no one knows but he himself.(HC) 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,(HD) and his name is the Word of God.(HE) 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,(HF) white(HG) and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword(HH) with which to strike down(HI) the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”[e](HJ) He treads the winepress(HK) of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:(HL)
king of kings and lord of lords.(HM)
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds(HN) flying in midair,(HO) “Come,(HP) gather together for the great supper of God,(HQ) 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people,(HR) free and slave,(HS) great and small.”(HT)
19 Then I saw the beast(HU) and the kings of the earth(HV) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse(HW) and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet(HX) who had performed the signs(HY) on its behalf.(HZ) With these signs he had deluded(IA) those who had received the mark of the beast(IB) and worshiped its image.(IC) The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake(ID) of burning sulfur.(IE) 21 The rest were killed with the sword(IF) coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse,(IG) and all the birds(IH) gorged themselves on their flesh.
The Thousand Years
20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,(II) having the key(IJ) to the Abyss(IK) and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,(IL) and bound him for a thousand years.(IM) 3 He threw him into the Abyss,(IN) and locked and sealed(IO) it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations(IP) anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.
4 I saw thrones(IQ) on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.(IR) And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded(IS) because of their testimony about Jesus(IT) and because of the word of God.(IU) They[f] had not worshiped the beast(IV) or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.(IW) They came to life and reigned(IX) with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.(IY) 6 Blessed(IZ) and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death(JA) has no power over them, but they will be priests(JB) of God and of Christ and will reign with him(JC) for a thousand years.
The Judgment of Satan
7 When the thousand years are over,(JD) Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations(JE) in the four corners of the earth(JF)—Gog and Magog(JG)—and to gather them for battle.(JH) In number they are like the sand on the seashore.(JI) 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded(JJ) the camp of God’s people, the city he loves.(JK) But fire came down from heaven(JL) and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them,(JM) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,(JN) where the beast(JO) and the false prophet(JP) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.(JQ)
The Judgment of the Dead
11 Then I saw a great white throne(JR) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,(JS) and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small,(JT) standing before the throne, and books were opened.(JU) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.(JV) The dead were judged(JW) according to what they had done(JX) as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(JY) gave up the dead(JZ) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.(KA) 14 Then death(KB) and Hades(KC) were thrown into the lake of fire.(KD) The lake of fire is the second death.(KE) 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life(KF) was thrown into the lake of fire.
