80 ⁽²⁾Pastor de Israel,
que guías a José como a un rebaño,
que tienes tu trono sobre los querubines,
¡escucha!
¡Mira con buenos ojos a Efraín,
²⁽³⁾Benjamín y Manasés!
¡Despierta y ven a salvarnos con tu poder!

³    ⁽⁴⁾Oh Dios,
    ¡haz que volvamos a ser lo que fuimos!
    ¡Míranos con buenos ojos y estaremos a salvo!

⁴⁽⁵⁾Señor, Dios todopoderoso,
¿hasta cuándo estarás enojado
con la oración de tu pueblo?
⁵⁽⁶⁾Nos has dado lágrimas por comida;
por bebida, lágrimas en abundancia.
⁶⁽⁷⁾Nos has convertido en la burla de nuestros vecinos,
y nuestros enemigos se ríen de nosotros.

y ten consideración de esta vid,

del retoño que tú mismo afirmaste.

a quienes la cortan y la queman;

y también al llegar la luna llena,
que es el día de nuestra gran fiesta.
⁴⁽⁵⁾Porque éste es el mandamiento
que el Dios de Jacob dio a Israel;
⁵⁽⁶⁾es el mandato dado a José
cuando Dios salió contra Egipto.

Oí una voz que yo no conocía:
⁶⁽⁷⁾«Te he quitado la carga de los hombros,
te he aliviado del trabajo duro.
⁷⁽⁸⁾En tu angustia me llamaste, y te salvé;
te contesté desde la nube que tronaba;
te puse a prueba junto a las aguas de Meribá.
⁸⁽⁹⁾Escucha, pueblo mío, mi advertencia;
¡ojalá me obedezcas, Israel!

no adores dioses extraños.

el que te sacó de la tierra de Egipto;
abre tu boca, y yo te satisfaré.

¡Israel no quiso obedecerme!

y vivieron como mejor les pareció.

¡Si Israel hubiera seguido mis caminos,

yo habría humillado a sus enemigos

y su condenación quedaría sellada.

y se pondrán de parte de los malvados?

¡Hagan justicia al pobre y al necesitado!
⁴¡Libren a los débiles y pobres,
y defiéndanlos de los malvados!

⁵»Pero ustedes no saben, no entienden;
andan en la oscuridad.
Tiemblan los cimientos de la tierra.
⁶Yo dije que ustedes son dioses;
que todos son hijos del Altísimo.
⁷Sin embargo, morirán como todo hombre,
¡caerán como cualquier tirano!»

⁸¡Oh Dios, dispónte a juzgar la tierra,

83 ⁽²⁾Oh Dios, ¡no te quedes en silencio!,
¡no te quedes inmóvil y callado!
²⁽³⁾Mira a tus enemigos, a los que te odian:
alborotan y se rebelan contra ti.
³⁽⁴⁾Han hecho planes astutos
en contra de tu pueblo,
¡en contra de tus protegidos!
⁴⁽⁵⁾Han pensado venir a destruirnos
para que dejemos de existir como nación,
para que no vuelva a recordarse el nombre de Israel.
⁵⁽⁶⁾Han hecho un pacto en contra tuya,
han conspirado como un solo hombre:
⁶⁽⁷⁾los campamentos de Edom y de Ismael,
los descendientes de Agar y de Moab,
⁷⁽⁸⁾Guebal, Amón y Amalec,
los filisteos, los que viven en Tiro,
⁸⁽⁹⁾y hasta los asirios se han unido a ellos,
y son el brazo fuerte de los hijos de Lot.

⁹⁽¹⁰⁾Haz con ellos como hiciste con Madián,
como hiciste con Sísara,
como hiciste con Jabín en el arroyo de Quisón,
¹⁰⁽¹¹⁾que fueron destruidos en Endor,
¡que fueron convertidos en estiércol de la tierra!

como hiciste con Oreb y con Zeeb;
haz con todos sus jefes

como hojas secas arrastradas por el viento;

hallan lugar en tus altares

tú has sido muy bueno con este país tuyo;
has cambiado la suerte de Jacob;

tu enojo y tu furor.

⁴⁽⁵⁾Dios y Salvador nuestro,
¡sálvanos también ahora
y no sigas enojado con nosotros!
⁵⁽⁶⁾¿Acaso vas a prolongar por siempre
tu enojo contra nosotros?
⁶⁽⁷⁾¿No volverás a darnos vida,
para que tu pueblo se alegre por ti?
⁷⁽⁸⁾Oh Señor,
¡muéstranos tu amor, y sálvanos!

pues va a hablar de paz a su pueblo,

¹Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead Joseph like a flock.^(A)
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,^(B)
    shine forth ²before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.^(C)
Awaken^(D) your might;
    come and save us.^(E)

³Restore^(F) us,^(G) O God;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.^(H)

⁴How long,^(I) Lord God Almighty,
    will your anger smolder^(J)
    against the prayers of your people?
⁵You have fed them with the bread of tears;^(K)
    you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.^(L)
⁶You have made us an object of derision^[b] to our neighbors,
    and our enemies mock us.^(M)

⁷Restore us, God Almighty;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.^(N)

⁸You transplanted a vine^(O) from Egypt;
    you drove out^(P) the nations and planted^(Q) it.
⁹You cleared the ground for it,
    and it took root and filled the land.

    so that all who pass by pick its grapes?

Watch over this vine,

    revive^(Y) us, and we will call on your name.

¹Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout aloud to the God of Jacob!^(Z)
²Begin the music, strike the timbrel,^(AA)

³Sound the ram’s horn^(AD) at the New Moon,^(AE)
    and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;
⁴this is a decree for Israel,
    an ordinance of the God of Jacob.^(AF)
⁵When God went out against Egypt,^(AG)
    he established it as a statute for Joseph.

⁶“I removed the burden^(AI) from their shoulders;^(AJ)
    their hands were set free from the basket.
⁷In your distress you called^(AK) and I rescued you,
    I answered^(AL) you out of a thundercloud;

⁸Hear me, my people,^(AN) and I will warn you—
    if you would only listen to me, Israel!
⁹You shall have no foreign god^(AO) among you;
    you shall not worship any god other than me.

¹¹“But my people would not listen to me;
Israel would not submit to me.^(AS)

to follow their own devices.

    if Israel would only follow my ways,
¹⁴how quickly I would subdue^(AV) their enemies
    and turn my hand against^(AW) their foes!

    and their punishment would last forever.

    with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

¹God presides in the great assembly;
he renders judgment^(AZ) among the “gods”:^(BA)

²“How long will you^[i] defend the unjust
    and show partiality^(BB) to the wicked?^[j]^(BC)
³Defend the weak and the fatherless;^(BD)
    uphold the cause of the poor^(BE) and the oppressed.
⁴Rescue the weak and the needy;
    deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

⁵“The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing.^(BF)
They walk about in darkness;^(BG)
all the foundations^(BH) of the earth are shaken.

⁶“I said, ‘You are “gods”;^(BI)
you are all sons of the Most High.’
⁷But you will die^(BJ) like mere mortals;
you will fall like every other ruler.”

⁸Rise up,^(BK) O God, judge^(BL) the earth,
for all the nations are your inheritance.^(BM)

    and terrify them with your storm.^(CS)

¹You, Lord, showed favor to your land;
    you restored the fortunes^(DV) of Jacob.

    and turned from your fierce anger.^(DZ)

⁴Restore^(EA) us again, God our Savior,^(EB)
    and put away your displeasure toward us.
⁵Will you be angry with us forever?^(EC)
    Will you prolong your anger through all generations?
⁶Will you not revive^(ED) us again,
    that your people may rejoice^(EE) in you?

⁸I will listen to what God the Lord says;
    he promises peace^(EH) to his people, his faithful servants—

¹⁰Love and faithfulness^(EL) meet together;
