Exodus 6:2-9:35
New American Standard Bible 1995
2 God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am (A)the Lord; 3 and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as [a](B)God Almighty, but by (C)My name, [b]Lord, I did not make Myself known to them. 4 I also established (D)My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the [c]land in which they sojourned. 5 Furthermore I have (E)heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, because the Egyptians are holding them in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. 6 Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, ‘(F)I am the Lord, and (G)I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage. I will also (H)redeem you with (I)an outstretched arm and with great judgments. 7 Then I will take you [d](J)for My people, and (K)I will be [e]your God; and (L)you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. 8 I will bring you to the land which (M)I [f]swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and (N)I will give it to you for a possession; (O)I am the Lord.’” 9 So Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses on (P)account of their [g]despondency and cruel bondage.
10 Now the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 11 “(Q)Go, [h]tell Pharaoh king of Egypt [i]to let the sons of Israel go out of his land.” 12 But Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, “Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; (R)how then will Pharaoh listen to me, for I am [j](S)unskilled in speech?” 13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, and gave them a charge to the sons of Israel and to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
The Heads of Israel
14 These are the heads of their fathers’ households. (T)The sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn: Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben. 15 The (U)sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman; these are the families of Simeon. 16 These are the names of (V)the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon and Kohath and Merari; and the [k]length of Levi’s life was one hundred and thirty-seven years. 17 (W)The sons of Gershon: [l]Libni and Shimei, according to their families. 18 (X)The sons of Kohath: Amram and Izhar and Hebron and Uzziel; and the [m]length of Kohath’s life was one hundred and thirty-three years. 19 (Y)The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their generations. 20 (Z)Amram [n]married his father’s sister Jochebed, and she bore him Aaron and Moses; and the [o]length of Amram’s life was one hundred and thirty-seven years. 21 (AA)The sons of Izhar: Korah and Nepheg and Zichri. 22 (AB)The sons of Uzziel: Mishael and [p]Elzaphan and Sithri. 23 Aaron [q]married Elisheba, the daughter of (AC)Amminadab, the sister of (AD)Nahshon, and she bore him (AE)Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 24 The (AF)sons of Korah: Assir and Elkanah and [r]Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korahites. 25 Aaron’s son (AG)Eleazar [s]married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him (AH)Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites according to their families. 26 It was the same Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord said, “(AI)Bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their (AJ)hosts.” 27 They were the ones (AK)who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt [t]about bringing out the sons of Israel from Egypt; it was the same Moses and Aaron.
28 Now it came about on the day when the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 that the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “(AL)I am the Lord; (AM)speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you.” 30 But Moses said before the Lord, “Behold, I am [u](AN)unskilled in speech; how then will Pharaoh listen to me?”
“I Will Stretch Out My Hand”
7 Then the Lord said to Moses, “(AO)See, I make you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother (AP)Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land. 3 But (AQ)I will harden Pharaoh’s heart that I may (AR)multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 When (AS)Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and (AT)bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by (AU)great judgments. 5 (AV)The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I (AW)stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.” 6 So Moses and Aaron did it; (AX)as the Lord commanded them, thus they did. 7 Moses was (AY)eighty years old and Aaron [v]eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Aaron’s Rod Becomes a Serpent
8 Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘[w](AZ)Work a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘(BA)Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’” 10 So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and thus they did just as the Lord had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and [x]his servants, and it (BB)became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh also (BC)called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the [y](BD)magicians of Egypt, did [z]the same with (BE)their secret arts. 12 For each one threw down his staff and they turned into serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Yet (BF)Pharaoh’s heart was [aa]hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
Water Is Turned to Blood
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is [ab]stubborn; he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning [ac]as (BG)he is going out to the water, and station yourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile; and you shall take in your hand (BH)the staff that was turned into a serpent. 16 (BI)You shall say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “(BJ)Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness. But behold, you have not listened until now.” 17 Thus says the Lord, “(BK)By this you shall know that I am the Lord: behold, I will strike [ad]the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and (BL)it will be turned to blood. 18 (BM)The fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will [ae]become foul, and the Egyptians will [af](BN)find difficulty in drinking water from the Nile.”’” 19 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and (BO)stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their [ag]streams, and over their pools, and over all their reservoirs of water, that they may become blood; and there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”
20 So Moses and Aaron did even as the Lord had commanded. And he lifted up [ah](BP)the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and (BQ)all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood. 21 The fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile [ai]became foul, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. And the blood was through all the land of Egypt. 22 (BR)But the [aj]magicians of Egypt did [ak]the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart was [al]hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said. 23 Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house [am]with no concern even for this. 24 So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile. 25 Seven days [an]passed after the Lord had struck the Nile.
Frogs over the Land
8 [ao]Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “(BS)Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 2 But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite your whole territory with frogs. 3 The Nile will (BT)swarm with frogs, which will come up and go into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and on your people, and into your ovens and into your kneading bowls. 4 So the frogs will come up on you and your people and all your servants.”’” 5 [ap]Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘(BU)Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the [aq]streams and over the pools, and make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.’” 6 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the [ar](BV)frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 (BW)The [as]magicians did [at]the same with their secret arts, [au]making frogs come up on the land of Egypt.
8 Then Pharaoh (BX)called for Moses and Aaron and said, “(BY)Entreat the Lord that He remove the frogs from me and from my people; and (BZ)I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the Lord.” 9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “[av]The honor is yours to tell me: when shall I entreat for you and your servants and your people, that the frogs be [aw]destroyed from you and your houses, that they may be left only in the Nile?”
10 Then he said, “Tomorrow.” So he said, “May it be according to your word, that you may know that there is (CA)no one like the Lord our God. 11 The (CB)frogs will depart from you and your houses and your servants and your people; they will be left only in the Nile.” 12 Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and (CC)Moses cried to the Lord concerning the frogs which He had [ax]inflicted upon Pharaoh. 13 The Lord did according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out of the houses, the courts, and the fields. 14 So they piled them in heaps, and the land [ay]became foul. 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he [az]hardened his heart and (CD)did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
The Plague of Insects
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may become [ba]gnats through all the land of Egypt.’” 17 They did so; and Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff, and struck the dust of the earth, and there were [bb]gnats on man and beast. All the dust of the earth became [bc](CE)gnats through all the land of Egypt. 18 The [bd]magicians tried with their secret arts to bring forth [be]gnats, but (CF)they could not; so there were [bf]gnats on man and beast. 19 Then the [bg]magicians said to Pharaoh, “(CG)This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was [bh]hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
20 Now the Lord said to Moses, “(CH)Rise early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh, [bi]as (CI)he comes out to the water, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “(CJ)Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 21 For if you do not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and on your servants and on your people and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians will be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they dwell. 22 (CK)But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are [bj]living, so that no swarms of flies will be there, in order that you may know that [bk](CL)I, the Lord, am in the midst of the land. 23 I will [bl]put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur.”’” 24 Then the Lord did so. And there came [bm]great swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh and the houses of his servants and the land was (CM)laid waste because of the swarms of flies in all the land of Egypt.
25 Pharaoh (CN)called for Moses and Aaron and said, “(CO)Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” 26 But Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we will sacrifice to the Lord our God [bn]what is (CP)an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice [bo]what is an abomination to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not then stone us? 27 We must go a (CQ)three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as He [bp]commands us.” 28 Pharaoh said, “(CR)I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. (CS)Make supplication for me.” 29 Then Moses said, “Behold, I am going out from you, and I shall make supplication to the Lord that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow; only do not let Pharaoh (CT)deal deceitfully again in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.”
30 So (CU)Moses went out from Pharaoh and made supplication to the Lord. 31 The Lord did [bq]as Moses asked, and removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants and from his people; not one remained. 32 But Pharaoh [br]hardened his heart this time also, and (CV)he did not let the people go.
Egyptian Cattle Die
9 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and speak to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, “(CW)Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 2 For (CX)if you refuse to let them go and [bs]continue to hold them, 3 behold, (CY)the hand of the Lord [bt]will come with a very severe pestilence on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks. 4 (CZ)But the Lord will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, so that (DA)nothing will die of all that belongs to the sons of Israel.”’” 5 The Lord set a definite time, saying, “Tomorrow the Lord will do this thing in the land.” 6 So the Lord did this thing on the next day, and (DB)all the livestock of Egypt died; (DC)but of the livestock of the sons of Israel, not one died. 7 Pharaoh sent, and behold, there was not even one of the livestock of Israel dead. But (DD)the heart of Pharaoh was [bu]hardened, and he did not let the people go.
The Plague of Boils
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take for yourselves handfuls of soot from a kiln, and let Moses throw it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 It will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and will become (DE)boils breaking out with sores on man and beast through all the land of Egypt.” 10 So they took soot from a kiln, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses threw it toward the sky, and it became boils breaking out with sores on man and beast. 11 (DF)The [bv]magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians [bw]as well as on all the Egyptians. 12 And (DG)the Lord [bx]hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses.
13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “(DH)Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, “(DI)Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 14 For this time I will send all My plagues [by]on you and your servants and your people, so that (DJ)you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. 15 For if by now I had put forth My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth. 16 But, indeed, (DK)for this reason I have allowed you to [bz]remain, in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth. 17 Still you exalt yourself against My people [ca]by not letting them go.
The Plague of Hail
18 Behold, about this time tomorrow, (DL)I will [cb]send a very heavy hail, such as has not been seen in Egypt from the day it was founded [cc]until now. 19 Now therefore send, bring (DM)your livestock and whatever you have in the field to safety. (DN)Every man and beast that is found in the field and is not brought home, when the hail comes down on them, will die.”’” 20 (DO)The one among the servants of Pharaoh who [cd]feared the word of the Lord made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses; 21 but he who [ce]paid no regard to the word of the Lord [cf]left his servants and his livestock in the field.
22 Now the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that [cg](DP)hail may fall on all the land of Egypt, on man and on beast and on every plant of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.” 23 Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, and the Lord [ch]sent [ci]thunder and (DQ)hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24 So there was hail, and fire [cj]flashing continually in the midst of the hail, very severe, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 (DR)The hail struck all that was in the field through all the land of Egypt, both man and beast; the hail also struck every plant of the field and shattered every tree of the field. 26 (DS)Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, there was no hail.
27 Then Pharaoh [ck](DT)sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “(DU)I have sinned this time; the Lord is the righteous one, and I and my people are the wicked ones. 28 (DV)Make supplication to the Lord, for there has been enough of God’s [cl]thunder and hail; and (DW)I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.” 29 Moses said to him, “As soon as I go out of the city, I will (DX)spread out my [cm]hands to the Lord; the [cn]thunder will cease and there will be hail no longer, that you may know that (DY)the earth is the Lord’s. 30 (DZ)But as for you and your servants, I know that (EA)you do not yet [co]fear [cp]the Lord God.” 31 (Now the flax and the (EB)barley were [cq]ruined, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud. 32 But the wheat and the spelt were not [cr]ruined, for they ripen late.) 33 (EC)So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread out his [cs]hands to the Lord; and the [ct]thunder and the hail ceased, and rain [cu]no longer poured on the earth. 34 But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the [cv]thunder had ceased, he sinned again and [cw]hardened his heart, he and his servants. 35 Pharaoh’s heart was [cx]hardened, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, just as the (ED)Lord had spoken through Moses.

Tree of Life Version
Parashat Va’eira
2 God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am Adonai. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, as El Shaddai. Yet by My Name, Adonai, did I not make Myself known to them. 4 I also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage where they journeyed. 5 Furthermore, I have heard the groaning of Bnei-Yisrael, whom the Egyptians are keeping in bondage. So I have remembered My covenant. 6 Therefore say to Bnei-Yisrael: I am Adonai, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. I will deliver you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. 7 I will take you to Myself as a people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am Adonai your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. 8 So I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, and give it to you as an inheritance. I am Adonai.”
9 Moses spoke this way to Bnei-Yisrael, but they did not listen to him because of their broken spirit and cruel bondage. 10 So Adonai told Moses, 11 “Go, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that will he let Bnei-Yisrael go out of his land.”
12 But Moses said to Adonai, “Bnei-Yisrael have not listened to me. So how would Pharaoh listen to me—I, who have uncircumcised lips?”
13 Then Adonai spoke to Moses and to Aaron and gave to them a charge for Bnei-Yisrael and Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring Bnei-Yisrael out of the land of Egypt.
14 These are the heads of their father’s houses. The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These are the families of Reuben. 15 The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These are the families of Simeon.
16 These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years. 17 The sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei, according to their families. 18 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years. 19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their generations.
20 Amram married Jochebed, his father’s sister, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years. 21 The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg and Zichri. 22 The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri. 23 Aaron married Elisheba daughter of Amminadav, sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 24 The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These are the families of the Korahites. 25 Eleazar, Aaron’s son, married one of the daughters of Putiel and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the ancestral houses of the Levites according to their families.
26 These are the same Aaron and Moses to whom Adonai said, “Bring Bnei-Yisrael out from the land of Egypt according to their divisions.” 27 These are the ones that spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring Bnei-Yisrael out from Egypt. These are that same Moses and Aaron. 28 So it happened on the day when Adonai spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 that Adonai said to Moses, “I am Adonai. Tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything that I tell to you.” 30 But Moses said to Adonai, “I am of uncircumcised lips, so how would Pharaoh listen to me?”
7 So Adonai said to Moses, “See, I have set you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. 2 You are to speak all that I command you and Aaron your brother is to speak to Pharaoh, so that he will let Bnei-Yisrael go out of his land. 3 Yet I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 But Pharaoh will not listen to you, so I will lay My hand upon Egypt, and bring forth My armies, My people Bnei-Yisrael, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5 The Egyptians will know that I am Adonai, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt, and bring out Bnei-Yisrael from among them.” 6 So Moses and Aaron did as Adonai commanded them. 7 Moses was eighty years old[a] and Aaron eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.
8 Adonai told Moses and Aaron, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you saying, ‘Prove yourselves with a miracle,’ then you are to say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, so that it may become a serpent.’”
10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and did as Adonai had commanded. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they too, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts. 12 For each man threw down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Yet Pharaoh’s heart was hardened. So he did not listen to them—just as Adonai had said.
Ten Plagues Begin: Blood
14 Then Adonai said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he is coming out to the water, and stand ready to meet him by the bank of the Nile. Take the staff that was transformed into a serpent in your hand. 16 You are to say to him: Adonai, God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, ‘Let My people go, so they may serve Me in the wilderness,’ and behold, you have not listened. 17 This is what Adonai says: ‘By this you will know that I am Adonai. Behold, I will strike the waters that are in the river with the staff that is in my hand, and they will be turned to blood. 18 The fish that are in the river will die, the river will become foul, and the Egyptians will hate to drink water from the Nile.”’
19 Adonai said to Moses, “Say to Aaron: Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, over their pools and over all their ponds, so that they become blood. There will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in wooden and stone containers.”
20 So Moses and Aaron did as Adonai commanded. He lifted up the staff and struck the waters that were in the river in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and all the waters of the Nile turned to blood. 21 When the fish that were in the river died, the river became so foul that the Egyptians could not drink water from the river. The blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.
22 But the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts. So Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them—just as Adonai had said. 23 Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and did not even take it to heart. 24 So all the Egyptians dug around the river for water to drink, because they could not drink of the water from the Nile. 25 Seven days were fulfilled after Adonai had struck the Nile.
26 [b] Then Adonai said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him: This is what Adonai says: ‘Let My people go, so they may serve Me. 27 If you refuse to let them go, see, I will strike all your territory with frogs. 28 The river will swarm with frogs. They will go up and enter your house, into your bedroom, upon your bed, into the houses of your servants, upon your people, into your ovens, and in your kneading bowls. 29 The frogs will climb up on you, your people and all your servants.’”
Frogs, Gnats, Flies
8 Then Adonai told Moses, “Say to Aaron: Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, canals and pools, and cause frogs to come up over the land of Egypt.” 2 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land. 3 But the magicians did the same with their secret arts and brought up frogs over the land of Egypt.
4 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to Adonai, that He would take the frogs away from me and from my people. Then I will let the people go, so they may sacrifice to Adonai.”
5 Moses answered Pharaoh, “Boast about me after I pray for you. When am I to pray for you, your servants and your people, that the frogs would be cut off from you and your houses, and remain only in the Nile?”
6 “Tomorrow,” he said.
So he said, “Let it happen according to your word, so that you may know that there is none like Adonai our God. 7 The frogs will depart from you, from your houses, from your servants and from your people. They will remain only in the Nile.”
8 After Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, Moses cried out to Adonai concerning the frogs, which He had brought upon Pharaoh. 9 So Adonai acted according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out in the houses, the courts and the fields. 10 They piled them together in large heaps, and the land stank. 11 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not listen to them—just as Adonai had said.
12 So Adonai said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, and it will become gnats[c] throughout all the land of Egypt.’” 13 So they did. When Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, there were gnats on men and animals. All the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.
14 When the magicians attempted the same with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, they could not. There were gnats on men and animals. 15 So the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them—just as Adonai had said.
16 Then Adonai said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh. As he comes to the water say to him, This is what Adonai says: Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 17 Or else, if you do not let My people go, I will send the swarm of flies[d] on you and on your servants, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of the swarm of flies including the ground that they stand on.
18 “But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are dwelling—except no swarm of flies will be there—so that you may know that I, Adonai, am in the midst of the earth. 19 I will make a distinction between My people and your people. By tomorrow this sign will happen.”
20 Adonai did just so. A massive swarm of flies went into the house of Pharaoh and into his servant’s houses. All the land of Egypt was ruined because of the swarm of flies.
21 So Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron and said, “Go! Sacrifice to your God—in the land.”
22 But Moses said, “That would not be right. For the offerings we intend to sacrifice to Adonai our God are an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice what is an abomination to the Egyptians, wouldn’t they stone us? 23 We must walk a three-day journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to Adonai our God—just as He tells us.”
24 Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, so that you may sacrifice to Adonai your God in the wilderness. Only you must not go very far away. Pray for me.”
25 So Moses said, “See, I am leaving you, and I will pray to Adonai that the swarm of flies will depart from Pharaoh, his servants and from his people tomorrow. However, let Pharaoh no longer deal deceitfully by not letting the people go sacrifice to Adonai.” 26 Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to Adonai. 27 Adonai acted according to the word of Moses, and removed the swarm of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants and from his people. Nothing remained. 28 But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and did not let the people go.
Livestock, Boils, Hail
9 Then Adonai said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him: This is what Adonai, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let My people go, so they may serve Me.’ 2 For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still, 3 behold, the hand of Adonai will fall upon your livestock that are in the field—on the horses, donkeys, camels, herds and flocks. There will be a crushing plague. 4 But Adonai will make a distinction between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt, and nothing will die that belongs to Bnei-Yisrael.”
5 Also Adonai set a specific time, saying, “Tomorrow Adonai will do this thing in the land.”
6 Then the next day, Adonai did the deed. All the cattle of Egypt died, yet of the cattle of Bnei-Yisrael, not one died. 7 When Pharaoh inquired, there was not so much as one of the cattle of Bnei-Yisrael dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he did not let the people go.
8 Then Adonai said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from the furnace, and have Moses throw it heavenward in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 It will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and will become boils erupting with sores on both men and animals throughout all the land.”
10 So they took soot from the furnace and stood before Pharaoh. When Moses threw it heavenward, it became boils erupting with sores on both men and animals. 11 Moreover, the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, because they were on the magicians, as on all the Egyptians. 12 But Adonai hardened the heart of Pharaoh, so he did not listen to them—just as Adonai had said to Moses.
13 Then Adonai said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning, stand before Pharaoh and say to him: This is what Adonai the God of the Hebrews says: ‘Let My people go, so they may serve Me. 14 For this time I will send all My plagues to your heart, and on your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth. 15 Surely by now I could have stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. 16 However, I have let you stand for this reason: to show you My power, and that My Name might be proclaimed throughout all the earth. 17 Yet still you exalt yourself over My people, by not letting them go. 18 Behold, tomorrow at about this time, I will cause it to rain a very severe hailstorm, the likes of which has not occurred in Egypt since the day it was founded until now. 19 Send word, shelter your cattle and all that you have in the field. For every person and animal found in the field and not brought home, when the hail comes down on them, they will die.’”
20 Whoever feared the word of Adonai among the servants of Pharaoh had his own servants and cattle flee into the houses, 21 but whoever disregarded the word of Adonai left his servants and cattle in the field.
22 Then Adonai said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven and let there be hail in all the land of Egypt, on people, animals and every plant of the field, throughout all the land.”
23 So Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and Adonai sent thunder and hail. Fire came down on the earth, as Adonai rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24 The hail fell very severely, with fire flashing up amidst the hail, the likes of which had not occurred in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 The hail struck down everything that was in the fields, both men and animals, all throughout the land of Egypt. It also struck every plant of the field and broke down every tree. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where Bnei-Yisrael were, was there no hail.
27 So Pharaoh sent, called for Moses and Aaron and said to them, “I have sinned this time. Adonai is righteous, while I and my people are wicked. 28 Pray to Adonai—there has been enough of God’s thunders and hail! I will let you go. You don’t have to stay any longer.”
29 Moses said to him, “As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will stretch out my hands to Adonai. The thunder will cease and there will be no more hail—so you may know that the earth is Adonai’s. 30 But as for you and your servants, I know that you do not yet fear Adonai Elohim.”
31 (The flax and the barley were destroyed, because the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom. 32 But the wheat and the spelt were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)
33 Moses went out of the city, away from Pharaoh, and stretched out his hands to Adonai. Then the thunder and hail ceased, and rain no longer poured down on the earth. 34 But when Pharaoh saw that the rain, the hail and the thunder had ceased, he increased his sin and hardened his heart, both he and his servants. 35 So Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and he did not let Bnei-Yisrael go—just as Adonai had said by Moses’ hand.

Israel Regathered
25 ‘Thus says the Lord God, “When I (A)gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and will manifest My holiness in them in the sight of the nations, then they will (B)live in their [a]land which I gave to My servant Jacob. 26 They will (C)live in it securely; and they will (D)build houses, plant vineyards and live securely when I (E)execute judgments upon all who scorn them round about them. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.”’”
Judgment of Egypt
29 In the (F)tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth of the month, the word of the Lord came to me saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face against (G)Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all (H)Egypt. 3 Speak and say, ‘Thus says the Lord [b]God,
“Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
The great [c](I)monster that lies in the midst of his [d]rivers,
That (J)has said, ‘My Nile is mine, and I myself have made it.’
4 “I will put (K)hooks in your jaws
And make the fish of your [e]rivers cling to your scales.
And I will bring you up out of the midst of your [f]rivers,
And all the fish of your [g]rivers will cling to your scales.
5 “I will (L)abandon you to the wilderness, you and all the fish of your [h]rivers;
You will fall on the [i]open field; you will not be brought together or [j](M)gathered.
I have given you for (N)food to the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the sky.
6 “Then all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the Lord,
Because they have been only a (O)staff made of reed to the house of Israel.
7 “When they took hold of you with the hand,
You (P)broke and tore all their [k]hands;
And when they leaned on you,
You broke and made all their loins [l]quake.”
8 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I will (Q)bring upon you a sword and I will cut off from you man and beast. 9 The (R)land of Egypt will become a desolation and waste. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
Because [m]you (S)said, ‘The Nile is mine, and I have made it,’ 10 therefore, behold, I am (T)against you and against your [n]rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, from Migdol to Syene and even to the border of [o]Ethiopia. 11 A man’s foot will (U)not pass through it, and the foot of a beast will not pass through it, and it will not be inhabited for forty years. 12 So I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the (V)midst of desolated lands. And her cities, in the midst of cities that are laid waste, will be desolate forty years; and I will (W)scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among the lands.”
13 ‘For thus says the Lord God, “At the end of forty years I will (X)gather the Egyptians from the peoples [p]among whom they were scattered. 14 I will turn the fortunes of Egypt and make them return to the land of (Y)Pathros, to the land of their origin, and there they will be a lowly kingdom. 15 It will be the (Z)lowest of the kingdoms, and it will never again lift itself up above the nations. And I will make them so small that they will not (AA)rule over the nations. 16 And it will never again be the (AB)confidence of the house of Israel, [q](AC)bringing to mind the iniquity of their having turned [r]to Egypt. Then they will know that I am the Lord God.”’”
17 Now in the (AD)twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me saying, 18 “Son of man, (AE)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor [s]hard against Tyre; every head was made (AF)bald and every shoulder was rubbed bare. But he and his army had no wages from Tyre for the labor that he had [t]performed against it.” 19 Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I (AG)will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. And he will carry off her [u](AH)wealth and capture her spoil and seize her plunder; and it will be wages for his army. 20 I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor which he [v](AI)performed, because they acted for Me,” declares the Lord God.
21 “On that day I will make a (AJ)horn sprout for the house of Israel, and I will [w](AK)open your mouth in their midst. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

Tree of Life Version
25 Thus says Adonai Elohim: “When I have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered and show my holiness through them in the eyes of the nations, then they will live in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob. 26 They will live safely there, and they will build houses and plant vineyards. They will live securely when I have executed judgments on all those around them that treated them with contempt. So they will know that I am Adonai their God.”
Prophecy Against Egypt
29 On the twelfth day of the tenth month of the tenth year, the word of Adonai came to me saying: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt. Prophesy against him and against all Egypt, 3 speak and say, thus says Adonai Elohim:
‘Behold, I am against you,
Pharaoh King of Egypt,
the great crocodile lying in his rivers,
who says:
“My Nile is my own
—I made it for myself.”
4 I will put hooks in your jaws and
make the fish of your streams stick
to your scales.
I will haul you up from within your rivers
and all the fish of your streams will stick
to your scales.
5 I will leave you in the desert
—you and all the fish of your streams.
You will fall on the open field.
You will not be gathered or picked up.
I will give you as food for the beasts
of the earth and the birds of the sky.
6 Then all the inhabitants of Egypt
will know that I am Adonai,
because they were a staff of reed
to the house of Israel.
7 When they took hold of you by the hand,
you snapped and tore all their shoulders.
When they leaned on you,
you broke and wrenched all their hips.’”
8 Therefore thus says Adonai Elohim: “Behold, I will bring a sword against you. I will cut off from you man and beast. 9 The land of Egypt will become desolate and waste. Then they will know that I am Adonai. Because he said, ‘The Nile is mine—I made it!’ 10 therefore behold, I am against you and against your rivers. I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Ethiopia. 11 No human foot will pass through it, and no foot of beast will pass through it. It will be uninhabited for 40 years. 12 I will make the land of Egypt a desolation among devastated countries. Her cities will be a desolation 40 years among ruined cities. I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries.”
13 For thus says Adonai Elohim: “At the end of 40 years, I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples where they were scattered. 14 I will restore the fortunes of Egypt. I will cause them to return to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin. But they will be a lowly kingdom there. 15 It will be the lowliest of the kingdoms. It will no longer exalt itself above the nations. I will diminish them, so that they no longer rule over the nations. 16 It will no longer be as security for the house of Israel, bringing to mind the iniquity of their turning after them. So they will know that I am Adonai.”
17 On the first day of the first month of the twenty-seventh year, the word of Adonai came to me saying: 18 “Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor hard against Tyre. Every head became bald and every shoulder chafed. But he and his army had no profit from Tyre for the labor that he had expended against it.”
19 Therefore thus says Adonai Elohim: “Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He will carry off her abundance, take her spoil and take her prey. It will be the wages for his army. 20 I have given him the land of Egypt as his wages for which he served, because they worked for Me.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

Revelation 16
New American Standard Bible 1995
Six Bowls of Wrath
16 Then I heard a loud voice from (A)the [a]temple, saying to the (B)seven angels, “Go and (C)pour out [b]on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”
2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl [c](D)on the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant (E)sore on the [d]people (F)who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image.
3 The second angel poured out his bowl (G)into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man; and every living [e]thing in the sea died.
4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the (H)rivers and the springs of waters; and they (I)became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying, “(J)Righteous are You, (K)who are and who were, O (L)Holy One, because You (M)judged these things; 6 for they poured out (N)the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them (O)blood to drink. They [f]deserve it.” 7 And I heard (P)the altar saying, “Yes, O (Q)Lord God, the Almighty, (R)true and righteous are Your judgments.”
8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl upon (S)the sun, (T)and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. 9 Men were scorched with [g]fierce heat; and they (U)blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they (V)did not repent so as to (W)give Him glory.
10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the (X)throne of the beast, and his kingdom became (Y)darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, 11 and they (Z)blasphemed the (AA)God of heaven because of their pains and their (AB)sores; and they (AC)did not repent of their deeds.
12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the (AD)great river, the Euphrates; and (AE)its water was dried up, so that (AF)the way would be prepared for the kings (AG)from the [h]east.
Armageddon
13 And I saw coming out of the mouth of the (AH)dragon and out of the mouth of the (AI)beast and out of the mouth of the (AJ)false prophet, three (AK)unclean spirits like (AL)frogs; 14 for they are (AM)spirits of demons, (AN)performing signs, which go out to the kings of the (AO)whole [i]world, to (AP)gather them together for the war of the (AQ)great day of God, the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, (AR)I am coming like a thief. (AS)Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, (AT)so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”) 16 And they (AU)gathered them together to the place which (AV)in Hebrew is called [j](AW)Har-Magedon.
Seventh Bowl of Wrath
17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon (AX)the air, and a (AY)loud voice came out of the [k](AZ)temple from the throne, saying, “(BA)It is done.” 18 And there were flashes of (BB)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was (BC)a great earthquake, (BD)such as there had not been since man came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty. 19 (BE)The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the [l]nations fell. (BF)Babylon the great was (BG)remembered before God, to give her (BH)the cup of the wine of [m]His fierce wrath. 20 And (BI)every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And (BJ)huge [n]hailstones, about [o]one hundred pounds each, *came down from heaven upon men; and men (BK)blasphemed God because of the (BL)plague of the hail, because its plague *was extremely [p]severe.

Tree of Life Version
Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath
16 Then I heard a loud voice from the Temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of God’s wrath.” [a] 2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and foul and painful boils[b] came upon the people having the mark of the beast and worshiping his image. 3 Next the second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood like that of a corpse; and every living thing in the sea died. [c] 4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood. [d] 5 Then I heard the angel of the waters saying,
“Righteous are You—the Holy One, who
is and who was—
because You have passed these judgments.
6 For they have poured out the blood
of kedoshim and prophets,
and You have given them blood to drink[e]—
they are deserving!”
7 Then I heard the altar saying,
“Yes, Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot,
true and righteous are Your judgments!”[f]
8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was permitted to scorch people with fire. 9 People were scorched with fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God—the One who has power over these plagues. But they did not repent, to give Him glory.
10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was plunged into darkness.[g] People gnawed their tongues in pain 11 and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their boils. But they did not repent of their deeds.[h]
12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl over the great river Euphrates; and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. 13 Then I saw—coming from the dragon’s mouth and from the beast’s mouth and from the false prophet’s mouth—three unclean spirits like frogs. [i] 14 For they are demonic spirits performing miraculous signs, who go out to the kings of the whole world—to gather them for battle on the great Day of Elohei Tzva’ot.[j]
15 “Behold, I am coming like a thief! How fortunate is the one who stays alert and keeps his clothes on, lest he walk around naked and they see his shamefulness.”
16 Then the spirits gathered the kings to the place called in Hebrew Har-Megiddo.[k]
17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. A loud voice came out of the Temple[l] from the throne, saying, “It is done!” [m] 18 And there were flashes of lightning and rumblings and clashes of thunder and a great earthquake—such as never happened since mankind has been on the earth, so mighty was the quake.[n]
19 Then the great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. Babylon the great was remembered before God, to force her to drink the cup of the wine of His furious wrath. [o] 20 Every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. 21 Enormous hail—about a hundred pounds each[p]—falls from heaven on the people. And the people cursed God because of the plague of hail—so extreme was that plague.[q]
