Chapter 27
Altar on Mount Ebal.[a][b] 1 Moses and the elders of Israel said to the people: Observe all of the commandments that I give you today. 2 When you cross over the Jordan into the land that the Lord, your God, has given you, set up some large stones for yourselves and plaster them over. 3 When you cross over to enter the land that the Lord, your God, has promised you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, write all of these laws on them. 4 When you have crossed over the Jordan, I command you today, you are to set them up on Mount Ebal and plaster them over. 5 Build an altar there to the Lord, your God, an altar of stone. Do not use any iron tool upon them. 6 Build an altar of unhewn stones there to the Lord, your God. You shall offer your burnt offerings to the Lord, your God, there. 7 You are also to offer up peace offerings and eat them there, rejoicing in the presence of the Lord, your God. 8 You will write all of the words of the law upon these stones in a very clear manner.
9 Then Moses and the priests, the Levites, said to all of Israel: Take heed, O Israel, and listen, for today you have become the people of the Lord, your God. 10 Obey the command of the Lord, your God, and observe the commandments and the statutes that I give you today.
11 On the same day Moses said to the people: 12 When you cross over the Jordan, these are the ones who will stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. 13 These are the ones who will stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14 The Twelve Curses.[c] The Levites will proclaim to all of the people of Israel,
15 “Cursed be the person who carves or casts an idol, an abomination to the Lord, the work of human hands, and sets it up in secret.” Then all of the people will proclaim, “Amen.”[d] 16 “Cursed is the one who dishonors father or mother.” All of the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
17 “Cursed is the one who moves a neighbor’s boundary stone.” All of the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
18 “Cursed is the one who leads a blind person astray on the road.” All of the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
19 “Cursed is the one who withholds justice from the foreigner, the orphan, or the widow.” All of the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
20 “Cursed is the man who sleeps with his father’s wife, dishonoring his father’s bed.” All the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
21 “Cursed is the one who has sex with an animal.” All the people will proclaim, “Amen.” 22 “Cursed is the man who sleeps with his sister, either the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.” All the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
23 “Cursed is the man who sleeps with his mother-in-law.” All of the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
24 “Cursed is the one who kills a neighbor in secret.” All of the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
25 “Cursed is the one who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.” All the people will proclaim, “Amen.”
26 “Cursed is the one who does not uphold the words of this law and observe them.” All the people will proclaim, “Amen.”

„Să păziţi toate poruncile pe care vi le dau astăzi. 2 Când veţi traversa Iordanul în ţara pe care v-o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, să înălţaţi câteva pietre mari şi să le tencuiţi. 3 Să scrieţi pe ele toate cuvintele acestei Legi, după ce veţi traversa ca să intraţi în ţara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, v-o dă, ţară în care curge lapte şi miere, după cum Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşilor voştri, v-a promis. 4 Când veţi traversa Iordanul, să înălţaţi aceste pietre – pe care vă poruncesc astăzi să le ridicaţi – pe muntele Ebal şi să le tencuiţi. 5 Să construiţi acolo un altar Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, un altar din pietre, peste care să nu treacă fierul[a]. 6 Să construiţi un altar Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, din pietre întregi şi să aduceţi pe el arderi de tot pentru Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru. 7 Să aduceţi jertfe de pace[b], să mâncaţi acolo şi să vă bucuraţi în prezenţa Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru. 8 Să scrieţi foarte clar toate cuvintele acestei Legi pe pietrele acestea!“

9 Moise împreună cu preoţii leviţi au vorbit întregului Israel: „Fă linişte, Israele, şi ascultă! Astăzi, voi aţi devenit poporul Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru. 10 Să ascultaţi de glasul Lui şi să împliniţi legile şi poruncile Lui, pe care vi le dau astăzi!“
11 În aceeaşi zi Moise a mai poruncit poporului: 12 „Când veţi traversa Iordanul, seminţiile lui Simeon, Levi, Iuda, Isahar, Iosif şi Beniamin să stea pe muntele Garizim şi să binecuvânteze poporul. 13 Iar celelalte seminţii, Ruben, Gad, Aşer, Zabulon, Dan şi Neftali, să stea pe muntele Ebal şi să rostească blestemul. 14 Leviţii să rostească cu glas tare înaintea întregului popor Israel astfel:
15 «Blestemat este omul care-şi face un chip cioplit sau un idol turnat şi-l aşază într-un loc ascuns! Căci o astfel de lucrare a mâinilor acelui meşteşugar este o urâciune înaintea Domnului.» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
16 «Blestemat este cel ce-şi necinsteşte tatăl şi mama!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
17 «Blestemat este cel ce mută hotarul semenului său!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
18 «Blestemat este cel care-l face pe orb să rătăcească pe drum!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
19 «Blestemat este cel ce se atinge de dreptul străinului, al orfanului şi al văduvei!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
20 «Blestemat este cel ce se culcă cu soţia tatălui său, pentru că descoperă învelitoarea tatălui lui!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
21 «Blestemat este cel ce se culcă cu un animal!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
22 «Blestemat este cel ce se culcă cu sora lui, fiica tatălui său sau a mamei sale!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
23 «Blestemat este cel ce se culcă cu soacra lui!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
24 «Blestemat este cel ce-şi ucide semenul în ascuns!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
25 «Blestemat este cel ce ia un dar ca să ucidă o persoană nevinovată!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»
26 «Blestemat este cel ce nu stăruieşte să împlinească cuvintele acestei Legi!» Şi tot poporul să răspundă: «Amin!»

27 Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all these commands(A) that I give you today. 2 When you have crossed the Jordan(B) into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones(C) and coat them with plaster.(D) 3 Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey,(E) just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal,(F) as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. 5 Build there an altar(G) to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool(H) on them. 6 Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7 Sacrifice fellowship offerings(I) there, eating them and rejoicing(J) in the presence of the Lord your God.(K) 8 And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones(L) you have set up.”(M)
Curses From Mount Ebal
9 Then Moses and the Levitical(N) priests said to all Israel, “Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the Lord your God.(O) 10 Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”
11 On the same day Moses commanded the people:
12 When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim(P) to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar,(Q) Joseph and Benjamin.(R) 13 And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal(S) to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.
14 The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice:
15 “Cursed is anyone who makes an idol(T)—a thing detestable(U) to the Lord, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”(V)
16 “Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.”(W)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
17 “Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor’s boundary stone.”(X)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
18 “Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.”(Y)
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
19 “Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner,(Z) the fatherless or the widow.”(AA)
