Come and Drink
“The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.” Revelation 22:17
The amazing thing about the Bible is that it’s not just a beautiful story. Sure, it takes the lid off human history so we can see it through God’s eyes. And yes, it starts and ends in a garden with every broken thing put away. But there is power in this Book of books. You think you’re just reading your Bible, and you discover that you’re the one being read!
As we open the pages of Scripture and see Jesus anew, the book of our hearts is flipped open by the Holy Spirit. He convicts us of our famishing sin. He shows us the Host of hosts who became an unwelcomed guest in this world—and was feasted upon so that we might feast one day. He comforts us with the knowledge that our Host will compel us to come in. No one will snatch us from Him.
The Holy Spirit calls us—even on the last page of Scripture—to come and drink. Suddenly, we’re transported back to the woman at the well in all its ordinariness. She had no idea that the One who gives living water was the One who bore the cross, overpowered the grave, and will come again on the clouds.
This is no ordinary invitation. The saving work of Jesus is finished, but the story is not. Come and drink.
