Let It Rain!
“When she heard in Moab that the LORD had come to the aid of his people by providing food for them, Naomi and her daughters-in-law prepared to return home from there.” Ruth 1:6
Just as God released the long-awaited rains upon His famished people in 1 Kings 18, He also visited His people in Bethlehem after their famine and gave them food. He’s not vindictive but is just and merciful. He reveals the extent of our inward famine, that we might taste that He is good. Great sinners know their need for a great Savior.
We see this in the life of Naomi. She escaped the famine in Bethlehem but took her own famished heart with her. And the living God, in His hard mercy, removed idol after idol from Naomi’s grasp until all she had left was her bitterness. But news that He had once more visited Bethlehem was material provision for her.
What finally broke the stranglehold of sin on her life? Her realization that the God who withheld food and blessing was only too willing to pour it out upon her as well. It wasn’t an earthly feast that Naomi needed, but the God who provided it. It’s a feast far greater than we can touch and taste here and now from a God “whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead” (Ruth 2:20).
Has the Lord visited your famished heart with blessing? Give Him thanks for His kindness!
