The night itself was powerless, rising up from the darkest corners of a hell that didn’t really exist. As they slept the same sleep,
Were sometimes molested with the fear of monsters, sometimes fainted away, their soul failing them: for a sudden and unlooked for fear was come upon them.
All night long those people slept the same restless sleep, even though the night held no power over them, since it came from the powerless depths of the world of the dead.
So they, during that night, powerless though it was, since it had come upon them from the recesses of a powerless Hades, while all sleeping the same sleep,
And so, throughout that night, which was powerless over them, and which descended upon them from the depths of the powerless netherworld, they all experienced the same sleep—
But throughout the night, which was really powerless and which came upon them from the recesses of powerless Hades, they all slept the same sleep,

Forsooth they, that came into a mighty night, and coming above (or upon) from (the) lowest things, and from (the) highest things, they sleeping the same sleep, [They forsooth, that verily the unmighty night, and sleeping the same sleep, overcoming from the lowest, and from the highest,]
