Wisdom 11:9
When your people were put to the test, you disciplined them, but you also showed mercy. But they learned from this how harshly the ungodly were tormented when you judged them.
shewing by the thirst that was then, how thou didst exalt thine, and didst kill their adversaries.
When they were being tested, even though it was a merciful discipline, they learned how wicked people were tortured when you judged them in anger.
For when they had been tried, though only mildly chastised, they recognized how the wicked, condemned in anger, were being tormented.
For when they were tried, though they were being disciplined in mercy, they learned how the ungodly were tormented when judged in wrath.

For when they were tried, though they were being disciplined in mercy, they learned how the ungodly were tormented when judged in wrath.
For when they were assayed, soothly they took chastising with mercy; they knew, how wicked men deemed with ire, should suffer torments. [When forsooth they were tempted, forsooth and with mercy discipline they took; they knew, how with wrath the unpious men deemed, torments should suffer.]
