In this way they learned that people are punished by the very same things by which they sin.
But for the foolish devices of their iniquity, because some being deceived worshipped dumb serpents and worthless beasts, thou didst send upon them a multitude of dumb beasts for vengeance.
and taught them that punishment for sin takes the same form as the sin itself.
that they might recognize that one is punished by the very things through which one sins.
so that they might learn that the agents of one’s sin are the instruments of one’s punishment.
