Sirach 37:1
Print
Every friend will say, “I too have been a friend,” but there’s a friend who is one in name only.
Every friend will say: I also am his friend: but there is a friend, that is only a friend in name. Is not this a grief even to death?
Anyone can claim to be your friend, but some people are friends in name only.
Every friend declares friendship, but there are friends who are friends in name only.
Every friend can say, “I too am your friend,” but some are friends in name only.
Every friend says, ‘I too am a friend’; but some friends are friends only in name.
Every friend says, ‘I too am a friend’; but some friends are friends only in name.
Every friend says, “I too am a friend”; but some friends are friends only in name.
Every friend says, “I, too, am a friend,” but some friends are friends only in name.
Every friend will say, “I too am a friend”; but some friends are friends only in name.
Every friend will say, “I too am a friend”; but some friends are friends only in name.
Each friend shall say, And I have coupled friendship; but that is a friend, a friend by name alone. [Each friend shall say, And I friendship coupled; but there is a friend, by only name a friend.]
