Sirach 23:12
There is a way of speaking that’s comparable to death; don’t let it be found among Jacob’s descendants. All these things will stay far away from the godly, and they will not wallow in their sins.
A man that sweareth much, shall be filled with iniquity, and a scourge shall not depart from his house.
There is one way of speaking that is like death itself—may no Israelite ever be guilty of it! Devout people do not wallow in such sin, and they will keep away from such behavior.
There are words comparable to death; may they never be heard in the inheritance of Jacob. To the devout all such words are foreign; they do not wallow in sin.
There are words that are fraught with death; may they never be heard among Jacob’s descendants. For such conduct will be avoided by the devout; they will not wallow in sin.
There is a manner of speaking comparable to death; may it never be found in the inheritance of Jacob! Such conduct will be far from the godly, and they will not wallow in sins.
