Who will put a guard on my mouth and an effective seal upon my lips so that I don’t fall because of my speech and so that my tongue doesn’t destroy me?
If thou hast opened a sad mouth, fear not, for there may be a reconciliation: except upbraiding, and reproach, and pride, and disclosing of secrets, or a treacherous wound: for in all these cases a friend will flee away.
I wish that a guard could be placed at my mouth, that my lips could be wisely sealed. It would keep me from making mistakes and prevent me from destroying myself with my own tongue!
Who will set a guard over my mouth, an effective seal on my lips, That I may not fail through them, and my tongue may not destroy me?
Who will set a guard over my mouth, and a seal of prudence on my lips, to prevent them from becoming my downfall and to keep my tongue from causing my ruin?
