Sirach 31:26

A furnace tests the hardening of steel when it’s dipped, so wine tests the heart when the arrogant quarrel.
Hear me, my son, and despise me not: and in the end thou shalt find my words.
An arrogant person's character shows through when he is in a drunken argument, in the same way that iron is tested when it is heated red-hot and then dipped in water.
As the furnace tests the work of the smith, so does wine the hearts of the insolent.
As the furnace tests the tempering of steel, so wine tests the hearts in the disputes of the insolent.
As the furnace tests the work of the smith, so wine tests hearts when the insolent quarrel.
As the furnace tests the work of the smith, so wine tests hearts when the insolent quarrel.
As the furnace tests the work of the smith, so wine tests hearts when the insolent quarrel.
As the furnace tests the work of the smith, so wine tests hearts when the insolent quarrel.
Fire and water prove the temper of steel, so wine tests hearts in the strife of the proud.
Fire and water prove the temper of steel, so wine tests hearts in the strife of the proud.
Fire proveth hard iron; so wine drunken in drunkenness shall reprove the hearts of proud men.
