And the king being angry called for his priests, and said to them: If you tell me not, who it is that eateth up these expenses, you shall die.

Daniel began to laugh. “Do not be deceived, O king,” he said; “it is only clay inside and bronze outside; it has never eaten or drunk anything.”

Laughing, Daniel said, “Do not be deceived, O king. This idol of yours is composed of nothing but clay inside and bronze outside. It has never eaten or drunk anything.”
