2 Maccabees 4:27
Menelaus took authority but didn’t send any of the promised money to the king.
So Menelaus got the principality: but as for the money he had promised to the king he took no care, when Sostratus the governor of the castle called for it.
Menelaus continued to be High Priest, but he never paid any of the money he had promised the king.
But Menelaus, who obtained the office, paid nothing of the money he had promised to the king,
Although Menelaus continued to hold the office of high priest, he failed to make any payments of the money he had promised to the king, despite the insistent demands for payment by Sostratus, the captain of the citadel,
