1 Maccabees 9:9

They tried to change his mind: “We don’t have the strength. Let’s save ourselves now and come back later with our people to fight them. We are too few.”
But they dissuaded him, saying: We shall not be able, but let us save our lives now, and return to our brethren, and then we will fight against them: for we are but few.
His men tried to talk him out of it. We are not strong enough, they said. Let's retreat now and save our lives. Then we can return with reinforcements and fight the enemy. We don't have enough men now.
They tried to dissuade him, saying: “We certainly cannot. Let us save our own lives now, and come back with our kindred, and then fight against them. Now we are too few.”
His men tried to dissuade him, saying, “We do not have the necessary strength. Let us save our own lives now and return to fight them when our kindred have joined up with us. Right now we are too few.”
But they tried to dissuade him, saying, ‘We do not have the strength. Let us rather save our own lives now, and let us come back with our kindred and fight them; we are too few.’

But they tried to dissuade him, saying, “We are not able. Let us rather save our own lives now, and let us come back with our brethren and fight them; we are too few.”
And they turned away (from) him, and said, [or saying], We shall not be able to, but deliver we [now] our own lives, and (re)turn again we to our brethren, and then we shall fight against them; forsooth we be few.
