1 Maccabees 1:57
If anyone was caught in possession of a copy of the covenant scroll or if anyone kept to the Law, that person was condemned to death by royal decree.
On the fifteenth day of the month Casleu, in the hundred and forty-fifth year, king Antiochus set up the abominable idol of desolation upon the altar of God, and they built altars throughout all the cities of Juda round about:
and anyone who was caught with a copy of the sacred books or who obeyed the Law was put to death by order of the king.
Whoever was found with a scroll of the covenant, and whoever observed the law, was condemned to death by royal decree.
If any people were discovered in possession of a book of the covenant or acting in conformity with the law, they were condemned to death by the decree of the king.
