where the foreign army met him. They had set an ambush against him in the mountains, but they themselves met him face-to-face.
And behold the army of the strangers met him in the plain, and they laid an ambush for him in the mountains: but he went out against them.
where the main force of the foreign army was advancing to meet him. Unknown to Jonathan, they had left a detachment of troops in ambush in the mountains,
There the army of the foreigners met him on the plain. Having first detached an ambush in the mountains, this army mounted a frontal attack.
There in the plain was the army of the foreigners advancing to attack, having first prepared an ambush against him in the mountains.
and there in the plain the army of the foreigners met him; they had set an ambush against him in the mountains, but they themselves met him face to face.
