Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Mary Magnifies the Lord
46 And Mary said:
“(A)My soul (B)magnifies the [a]Lord,
47 And (C)my spirit has rejoiced in (D)God my Savior.
48 For (E)He has looked upon the humble state of His slave,
For behold, from this time on, all generations will count me (F)blessed.
49 For the Mighty One has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
50 (G)And His mercy is [b]upon generation after generation
Toward those who fear Him.
51 (H)He has done a mighty deed with His arm;
He has scattered those who were proud in the [c]thoughts of their heart.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones,
And has (I)exalted those who were humble.
53 (J)He has filled the hungry with good things,
And sent away the rich empty-handed.
54 He has given help to Israel His servant,
[d]In remembrance of His mercy,
55 (K)As He spoke to our fathers,
(L)To Abraham and his seed forever.”
17 Your eyes will behold (A)the King in His beauty;
They will see (B)a far-distant land.
18 Your heart will meditate on (C)terror:
“Where is (D)he who counts?
Where is he who weighs?
Where is he who counts the towers?”
19 You will no longer see a fierce people,
A people of [a](E)unintelligible speech [b]which no one comprehends,
Of a stammering tongue [c]which no one understands.
20 (F)Behold Zion, the city of our appointed times;
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an (G)abode at ease,
(H)A tent which will not be folded;
Its stakes will never be pulled up,
Nor any of its cords ever be torn apart.
21 But there the Mighty One, Yahweh, will be for us
A place of (I)rivers and wide canals
On which no boat with oars will go,
And on which no mighty ship will pass—
22 For Yahweh is our (J)judge,
Yahweh is (K)our lawgiver,
Yahweh is (L)our king;
(M)He will save us—
6 And (A)he said to me, “(B)These words are faithful and true”; and the Lord, the (C)God of the spirits of the prophets, (D)sent His angel to show to His slaves the things which must soon take place.
7 “And behold, (E)I am coming quickly. (F)Blessed is he who keeps (G)the words of the prophecy of this book.”
18 I bear witness to everyone who hears (A)the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone (B)adds to them, God will add to him (C)the plagues which are written in (D)this book. 19 And if anyone (E)takes away from the (F)words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from (G)the tree of life and [a]from the holy city, (H)which are written in this book.
20 He who (I)bears witness to these things says, “Yes, (J)I am coming quickly.” Amen. (K)Come, Lord Jesus.
