Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Who Can Stand Before You?
To the choirmaster: with (A)stringed instruments. A Psalm of (B)Asaph. A Song.
76 In Judah God is (C)known;
his name is great in Israel.
2 His (D)abode has been established in (E)Salem,
his (F)dwelling place in Zion.
3 There he (G)broke the flashing arrows,
the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah
4 Glorious are you, more majestic
(H)than the mountains full of (I)prey.
5 (J)The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil;
(K)they sank into sleep;
all the men of war
were unable to use their hands.
6 At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both (L)rider and horse lay stunned.
7 (M)But you, you are to be feared!
Who can (N)stand before you
when once your anger is roused?
8 From the heavens you uttered judgment;
(O)the earth feared and was still,
9 when God (P)arose to establish judgment,
to save all the humble of the earth. Selah
10 Surely (Q)the wrath of man shall praise you;
the remnant[a] of wrath you will put on like a belt.
11 (R)Make your vows to the Lord your God and perform them;
let all around him (S)bring gifts
to him who (T)is to be feared,
12 who (U)cuts off the spirit of princes,
who (V)is to be feared by the kings of the earth.
14 You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice;
(A)your bones shall flourish like the grass;
and (B)the hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants,
and he shall show his indignation against his enemies.
Final Judgment and Glory of the Lord
15 “For behold, (C)the Lord will come in fire,
and (D)his chariots like the whirlwind,
to render his anger in fury,
and his rebuke with flames of fire.
16 For (E)by fire (F)will the Lord enter into judgment,
and by his sword, with all flesh;
and those slain by the Lord shall be many.
17 (G)“Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one in the midst, (H)eating pig's flesh and the abomination and mice, shall come to an end together, declares the Lord.
18 “For I know[a] their works and their thoughts, and the time is coming[b] (I)to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and shall see my glory, 19 and I will set a sign among them. And from them (J)I will send survivors to the nations, to (K)Tarshish, (L)Pul, and (M)Lud, who draw the bow, to (N)Tubal and (O)Javan, (P)to the coastlands far away, (Q)that have not heard my fame or seen my glory. And they shall declare my glory among the nations. 20 (R)And they shall bring all your brothers from all the nations (S)as an offering to the Lord, on horses and in chariots and in litters and on mules and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord. 21 (T)And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord.
22 “For as (U)the new heavens and the new earth
that I make
shall remain before me, says the Lord,
so (V)shall your offspring and your name remain.
23 (W)From new moon to new moon,
and from Sabbath to Sabbath,
all flesh shall come to worship before me,
declares the Lord.
24 “And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For (X)their worm shall not die, (Y)their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”
Lament over Jerusalem
37 (A)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that (B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have (C)gathered (D)your children together (E)as a hen gathers her brood (F)under her wings, and (G)you were not willing! 38 See, (H)your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, (I)‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple
24 (J)Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. 2 But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, (K)there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”
Signs of the End of the Age
3 As he sat on (L)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him (M)privately, saying, “Tell us, (N)when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your (O)coming and of (P)the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered them, (Q)“See that no one leads you astray. 5 For (R)many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am (S)the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you (T)are not alarmed, for this (U)must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For (V)nation will rise against nation, and (W)kingdom against kingdom, and there will be (X)famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are but the beginning of (Y)the birth pains.
9 “Then (Z)they will deliver you up (AA)to tribulation and (AB)put you to death, and (AC)you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will fall away[a] and (AD)betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many (AE)false prophets will arise (AF)and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, (AG)the love of many will grow cold. 13 (AH)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom (AI)will be proclaimed throughout the whole world (AJ)as a testimony (AK)to all nations, and (AL)then the end will come.
