Psalm 142

Prayer for Deliverance from Persecutors

A Maskil of David, when he was in the cave. A Prayer.

142 I cry with my voice to the Lord,
    with my voice I make supplication to the Lord,
I pour out my complaint before him,
    I tell my trouble before him.
When my spirit is faint,
    thou knowest my way!

In the path where I walk
    they have hidden a trap for me.
I look to the right and watch,[a]
    but there is none who takes notice of me;
no refuge remains to me,
    no man cares for me.

I cry to thee, O Lord;
    I say, Thou art my refuge,
    my portion in the land of the living.
Give heed to my cry;
    for I am brought very low!

Deliver me from my persecutors;
    for they are too strong for me!
Bring me out of prison,
    that I may give thanks to thy name!
The righteous will surround me;
    for thou wilt deal bountifully with me.

Habakkuk 2:12-20

12 Woe to him who builds a town with blood,
    and founds a city on iniquity!
13 Behold, is it not from the Lord of hosts
    that peoples labor only for fire,
    and nations weary themselves for nought?
14 For the earth will be filled
    with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord,
    as the waters cover the sea.

15 Woe to him who makes his neighbors drink
    of the cup of his wrath,[a] and makes them drunk,
    to gaze on their shame!
16 You will be sated with contempt instead of glory.
    Drink, yourself, and stagger![b]
The cup in the Lord’s right hand
    will come around to you,
    and shame will come upon your glory!
17 The violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you;
    the destruction of the beasts will terrify you,[c]
for the blood of men and violence to the earth,
    to cities and all who dwell therein.

18 What profit is an idol
    when its maker has shaped it,
    a metal image, a teacher of lies?
For the workman trusts in his own creation
    when he makes dumb idols!
19 Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake;
    to a dumb stone, Arise!
    Can this give revelation?
Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver,
    and there is no breath at all in it.

20 But the Lord is in his holy temple;
    let all the earth keep silence before him.

1 Corinthians 5:9-13

Sexual Immorality Must Be Judged

I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with immoral men; 10 not at all meaning the immoral of this world, or the greedy and robbers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But rather I wrote[a] to you not to associate with any one who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or robber—not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside. “Drive out the wicked person from among you.”
