Psalm 102:1-17

Prayer of an Afflicted Man for Mercy on Himself and on Zion.

A Prayer of the Afflicted when he is faint and [a]pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102 (A)Hear my prayer, O Lord!
And let my cry for help (B)come to You.
(C)Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress;
(D)Incline Your ear to me;
In the day when I call (E)answer me quickly.
For my days (F)have been [b]consumed in smoke,
And my (G)bones have been scorched like a hearth.
My heart (H)has been smitten like [c]grass and has (I)withered away,
Indeed, I (J)forget to eat my bread.
Because of the [d]loudness of my groaning
My (K)bones [e]cling to my flesh.
I [f]resemble a (L)pelican of the wilderness;
I have become like an owl of the waste places.
I (M)lie awake,
I have become like a lonely bird on a housetop.

My enemies (N)have reproached me all day long;
Those who [g](O)deride me [h]have used my name as a (P)curse.
For I have eaten ashes like bread
And (Q)mingled my drink with weeping
10 (R)Because of Your indignation and Your wrath,
For You have (S)lifted me up and cast me away.
11 My days are like a [i](T)lengthened shadow,
And [j]I (U)wither away like [k]grass.

12 But You, O Lord, [l](V)abide forever,
And Your [m](W)name to all generations.
13 You will (X)arise and have (Y)compassion on Zion;
For (Z)it is time to be gracious to her,
For the (AA)appointed time has come.
14 Surely Your servants [n]find pleasure in her stones
And feel pity for her dust.
15 [o]So the [p](AB)nations will fear the name of the Lord
And (AC)all the kings of the earth Your glory.
16 For the Lord has (AD)built up Zion;
He has (AE)appeared in His glory.
17 He has (AF)regarded the prayer of the [q]destitute
And has not despised their prayer.

Jeremiah 25:15-32

15 For thus the Lord, the God of Israel, says to me, “Take this (A)cup of the wine of wrath from My hand and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it. 16 They will (B)drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.”

17 Then I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and (C)made all the nations to whom the Lord sent me drink it: 18 (D)Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and its kings and its princes, to make them a ruin, a horror, a hissing and a curse, as it is this day; 19 (E)Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his princes and all his people; 20 and all the [a](F)foreign people, all the kings of the (G)land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the (H)Philistines (even Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron and the remnant of (I)Ashdod); 21 (J)Edom, (K)Moab and the sons of (L)Ammon; 22 and all the kings of (M)Tyre, all the kings of Sidon and the kings of (N)the coastlands which are beyond the sea; 23 and (O)Dedan, Tema, (P)Buz and all who (Q)cut the corners of their hair; 24 and all the kings of (R)Arabia and all the kings of the [b](S)foreign people who dwell in the desert; 25 and all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of (T)Elam and all the kings of (U)Media; 26 and all the kings of the north, near and far, one with another; and (V)all the kingdoms of the earth which are upon the face of the ground, and the king of [c](W)Sheshach shall drink after them.

27 “You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “(X)Drink, be drunk, vomit, fall and rise no more because of the (Y)sword which I will send among you.”’ 28 And it will be, if they (Z)refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you will say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “(AA)You shall surely drink! 29 For behold, I am (AB)beginning to work calamity in this city which is (AC)called by My name, and shall you be completely free from punishment? You will not be free from punishment; for (AD)I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,” declares the Lord of hosts.’

30 “Therefore you shall prophesy against them all these words, and you shall say to them,

‘The (AE)Lord will (AF)roar from on high
And utter His voice from His holy habitation;
He will roar mightily against His [d]fold.
He will shout like those who tread the grapes,
Against all the inhabitants of the earth.
31 ‘A clamor has come to the end of the earth,
Because the Lord has (AG)a controversy with the nations.
He is entering into (AH)judgment with all flesh;
As for the wicked, He has given them to the sword,’ declares the Lord.”

32 Thus says the Lord of hosts,
“Behold, evil is going forth
From (AI)nation to nation,
And a great (AJ)storm is being stirred up
From the remotest parts of the earth.

Matthew 10:5-15

(A)These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: “Do not [a]go [b]in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the (B)Samaritans; but rather go to (C)the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, [c]preach, saying, ‘(D)The kingdom of heaven [d]is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. (E)Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, 10 or a [e]bag for your journey, or even two [f]coats, or sandals, or a staff; for (F)the worker is worthy of his [g]support. 11 And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay [h]at his house until you leave that city. 12 As you enter the [i]house, (G)give it your [j]greeting. 13 If the house is worthy, [k]give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, [l]take back your blessing of peace. 14 Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, (H)shake the dust off your feet. 15 Truly I say to you, (I)it will be more tolerable for the land of (J)Sodom and Gomorrah in (K)the day of judgment than for that city.
